  • this probably makes radiohead cringe with embarresment these days, I can't believe they would make such a bad song, I liked pablo honey but this is awful.

  • The kind of song that makes you realize how completely Radiohead has evolved over the years: this song is literally a joke. It's somewhat ironic: the sound is criticizing pop, but I'd rather listen to a few Britney Spears songs before seeing this one live. I remember the first time I watched the Astoria 1994 concert, loving every bit, and then this song crops up right before the amazing "Blow Out". It was jarring, to say the least...

  • You've come a long way, Radiohead. Eesh.

  • We've found it, the missing link between thom and teenage vampires

  • Can I just comment on how awesome 0.35-0.39 looks.

  • where is this song from? I own bends and pablo and never have heard it...

  • this song is from pablo honey but B side have a nice life

  • it's a b-side from about this time

  • @Scott17quebec Oh don't diminish it: this was released as a full fledged single, so they didn't try to bury it particularly. I guess we can call this Radiohead's "Shiny Happy People" (although I actually like that particular oddity quite a bit more).

  • it's in then special version of pablo honey, comes with two cds and one dvd it aint' that hard to get in my local cd store they got like 2 of them....

  • It's a single

  • The Title "Pop Is Dead" reminds me Michael Jackson.

  • I love Thom Yorke's corpse like image

  • Love the way that Thom say "Jack him off!" x') He's the best :)

  • I'm a Radiohead's fan, and I didn't know about this video untill today. It's a great song, and the video is one of the weirdest that I have ever seen... Thom looks just awfull... (maybe even worse than a real dead person...)

  • this seems more like a david bowie video....not that ive seen any of them but its weird enuf to pass

  • The low of their career

  • Terrible song, and the video is even worse

  • imagine frank black screaming instead of thom yorke and its basically a "bossonova"-era pixies song

  • is one of the few songs that I like of Radiohead first times

  • not true i like this song also very mutch

  • I think I'm the only one that likes this song. D:

  • i also like this song, and am surprised that many other people hate it

  • wot a change!

  • scary thom is scary

  • does thom remind anyone of peter gabriel in this vid?

  • One of their worst songs and still miles ahead of most of the stuff being put out today.

  • what

  • hey, haha, i actually like this song...better than most of the songs on Pablo Honey as a matter of fact, i like it better than "I am Citizen Insane"

but yeah miles ahead of everything else!

  • Firstly, it's not on Pablo Honey...

  • i know it isn't on Pablo Honey, I meant it as "it's better than some of the stuff on Pablo Honey" never did I say it was on Pablo Honey

  • Comes in japanese edition

  • lol thom made himself look scary XD

  • that pitchfork article is funny lol

  • "No shit! Radiohead are about making people miserable-- beautifully, heart-explodingly miserable! Get it straight, Cyrus!"

    lol

  • What a riot!

  • Just in case anyone was wondering, the song is supposed to sound horrible, that's the fuckin' idea.

  • I find it funny that people can Diminish the art work of other, especially when #1: they don't create any artistic accomplishment. #2: They don't actually own or experienced the artwork being criticized #3: their behavior is exactly the one being pointed out in the art work itself.

truely a horrible song that made it's effects, as for Radiohead, my golden box containing their 7 albums and 2 Live Recordings says it all :)

  • you've gotta love Pitchfork!!! Linking this at the end of the Miley Cyrus piece HAHA

  • LMAO, I saw that too!

    BTW, Miley can fuck off.

  • wow, the crazy years

    haha they're so fantastic

  • I wouldnt say it's a "bad" music, as mrcrapstick99, but surely it's very different than radiohead other songs. it wasnt even published in their albums

  • wow, I've loved this song since I heard it, I didn't know it had a video!

  • it would have been better if t was longer.

  • Doesn't anyone else think it sounds bad?

I love radiohead and all but this song hurts my ears

  • I think this is the most upbeat Radiohead song I've ever heard!

ahaha I love them so much.

  • Comment removed

  • its so bizarre thom looks like a skeleton!

  • lol awesome song

  • "one final line of coke to jack him off" haha i think ed would be the best out of the 5 to play the zombie or dead guy or whatever

  • Jack him up* im pretty sure...

  • hahaha thom looks so funny and insane

  • jesus christ thom is fucking scary in this

  • phil with hair. . .just doesn't really look cool

hah thom yorke makes me laugh XD

still, it's better than the shit we have nowadays

  • its a tribute to the press apparently

omg i freakin love you thom yorke

  • Love the ambiguity of the title

It took me a while to realise that pablo honey was their best album; it doesn't flow and doesn't have the best songs, but its oh so fucking raw!

  • One of their best shit songs... if you get what I mean.

  • Watching this video over and over again and spotting the COUNTLESS 'Facepalm'-esque things in this vid, I'm starting to wonder if Radiohead just made this song/video for the lulz - it's too 'OMGWTF?!' to be considered 'serious', right?

  • even the guitar riff is hilarious.. and the sudden unexpected piano at 0:58 and the unnecessary shot cuts/zooming in, and the dramatic closeups, the bizarre dancing blue man, Thom's facial expressions and crazy gestures, omg, I am crying here. they must look back at this and have laughing fits every now and then (I hope)

  • this is so fucking hilarious in hindsight xD I love it

"so many facelifts its face flew off"

    ahahahahahah

  • this song is so funny (but Thom is creepy in this video)

  • Oh god. Wtf.

  • This is such a horrible song. Radiohead is my favorite band, but the fact is Pablo Honey is a trash album, so horrible.

  • There are some good songs on pablo honey like thinking about you (a very good song), and you (the acoustic version). And I suppose crep. But yes even i can't believe they actually released this song (and as a video!)

  • this was never on pablo honey. or any album for that matter.

  • theres some desent stuff on PH, like Anyone can play guitar... or thinking about you. or you or how do you? I agree it is my least favourite of their albums but not a total write off.

  • I agree. Pablo Honey had moments of brillence. It is their worst album though.

  • Not worst, but least awesome.

  • ive never seen this side of radiohead. its... very odd

  • oh no pop is dead its really dead!

    this isnt a bad song,it is gr8 at 1:31

the video is horrible tho,u show this to some1 who hasnt heard radiohead and he wudnt like to hear more.

  • lol he looks like a vampire! didnt know this song had a video

    <3 radiohead

  • roflmao

if only thom would watch this now

  • as close to pulp+blur radiohead ever got. 4 better or worse (LOVE THEM ALL)

  • Greatness. :D

I completely agree with the person who says it's great in a lulz kind of way. This song gets me...PUMPED.

  • Jesus Thom was ugly back then.

  • i love this video!

  • . . .not impressed >_>

    but agree with silenceisgoldie

it is better than the tripe nowadays, in a couple of years time you'll hear song similar to bodysnatchers and house of cards, cos they're that ahead of time :P

  • I love Radiohead, but this video (not the song) is "absolute shite beyond belief"

  • Very wierd for radiohead. It's actually pretty poor in radiohead standards

  • i think it´s a wonderful song, radiohead is the best band ever

  • lol thom looks like a chick god i love this band

  • surreal.

  • love it!

  • I can see why Thom disowned this song haha but in all seriously it's better then a lot of crap on the radio today. Hell! Radiohead can't go wrong, even at their worst.

  • this is a laughably bad slip up from a great band

  • itunes just got the just ep and fake plastic trees disc 1 ep but not this they have the pop is dead vid but not the song now that is just wrong they need to hurry they r so slow on things

  • thom is dreamy says cody

  • I like the song, too bad Radiohead doesn't feel the same way. The video is ok... still a good song.

  • this isnt one of radioheads best in my opinion

  • From what I've heard, they share yours. I really don't think it's all that bad.

  • God, I love them.

  • Oh my!XD

  • i found the single for £50 in camden! haha!

  • omg Thom has never looked sooo sexy!

  • you mean the dead thom or alive thom?

  • All right, people, tell me where is it from, because it is nowhere on all their albums!

  • It is from the Pop is Dead EP released between Pablo Honey and The Bends. Near imposibe to find and iTunes doesn't have it. I know. I've been searching for a LONG time.

  • of course my comment was written with a tinge of irony as everyone knows banana co was the best thing thom and the boys have accomplished but what is interesting is the shortsightedness of a fan base that needs to preach to others on a judgement of aesthetics and seek justification for it by using others with similar opinions to reinforce their own this judgement of excellence by force of numbers is just primitive intellectual facism great record give this a minus at your peril anonymous youtubr

  • I don't know

  • what the fuck were they thinking

  • LOL! this is so weird for Radiohead! They look like total sell outs.

  • Yay Pop is dead!!!!!

  • Do they hate the video or the song? You're all saying Radiohead had to start somewhere and how some of you are embarrassed by this, lol why? Has Radiohead and Radiohead fans become too pretentious to look back and reminisce on the past - good or bad? You guys make me feel bad by liking this song lolz damn

  • tom you'll be letting the band pick their own favourite songs for a best of album for you next. disagreeing with who about what?

  • Russwood100, quintessential-the most perfect embodiment of something. if radiohead found this song to be quintessential i am sure they would hold alot more reverence for it.You know at best its standard. stop diagreeing for the sake of.

  • absolutelu fantastic best thing radiohead ever done quintessential

  • I love this video. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Why is Radiohead so embarrassed of their past?

  • One Final Line of Coke forrrrrrrr Whitney Hueston!!!! thats not the correct lyric (obviously) but You guys know what im talking about rightt?

  • An interviewer once asked the band if there was any advice they wish they'd received when they were first signed. Thom's answer was, "Don't release Pop Is Dead."

I think it's pretty awful, but I'm still glad they released it because it's hilarious! The video is pricelessly funny and it's a good reminder that even Radiohead had to start somewhere.

  • did he mean the video, or the song?

  • Hah, I'm sorry, I know this isn't their best stuff, but I still love it. It makes me happy.

  • Radiohead sounds great, even at their worst.

  • So what pop is dead, its no great loss XD

  • cringeworthy

  • Hahaha, someone should force Thom to watch this,

I´m sure he tried very hard to forget this video/song...

  • long live rock... fuck pop and hip hop

  • Amen to that man, Amen.

  • Please listen to other radiohead stuff, this is awful i know, but they do much better stuff

  • stop it, it's great. in its own way. in the lulz kind of way.

  • i agree with severnotfound 100%.

ahha, this brings back memories, no matter how bad it is. :)

  • i actually don't think it's bad ;)

it's just silly and sort of funny, not the kind of radiohead we're used to. but the tune is great. if any of the modern so-called indie bands, like Kasabian and Kaiser Chiefs, came out with this song today, they could easily have a hit with it.

  • who cares... awesome song and if you dont like it change the video

  • Y'know, I'm a huge fan of Radiohead, but that was really bad. :/

  • luv it

  • WOw!!

    this song is unexpected

    ha..

    gotta love Radiohead

    :]

  • This song is good, you people bashing it clearly don't have taste.

  • and there i was thinking Radiohead didnt have a bad song :(

  • what are you talking about? It's a GREEEAAAT song :)

  • good for you...

  • I think 'pop is dead' is dead...and shitty

  • at first i couldnt stand this song, but a while after i heard it, i started to hum the tune. since then, i havent been able to go a day without listening to it...just because its so fucking catchy.

  • its not bad but its the absoloute nadir of their career

  • Isn't it incredible that despite the fact this is a good song (better then a lot of brit-pop for sure) but compared to Radiohead's later work its total crap?

  • It's catchy, but anyone who says this is better than their later stuff is deluded.

  • It's not that good of a song but i like the lyrics tho. even if its just wishful thinking

  • howcome this song didnt go on 1 of ther albums?

  • It was gonna be on Pablo Honey but they realised it was crap lol

  • creepy video. (creepy, but fantastic!)

ive not heard this song before.. i haven't checked out many Radiohead B'sides. (apart from Talk Show Host)

  • It's not a B-side lol, this was released as a single.

  • ah...

another insight to my ignorance ^^

  • good song but creepy video lol.

  • good song but thom looks diseased.

  • fuck you so wud u if u were dead in coffin lol

  • Hmm...the words 'Humble beginnings' spring to mind.

  • I agree with the last guy. A good Radiohead fan will appreciate this as a chapter in the long, amazing career of one of the best bands ever to bless the planet with their music. Besides I think it's a catchy tune myself. Radiohead can't make bad music...even their worst song is better than some of the hits of other artists.

  • Makes me laugh at how "true" Radiohead fans cringe at this song. Guess it's not pretentious enough for most of you. Stop acting so cool and enjoy something fun for once all you "true" Radiohead fans. get over yourselves.

  • lol uh, isn't this song kinda pretentious? although it's also pretty catchy.

  • I say who cares?

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!

    I LOVE THOM!!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

    I LOVE THOM!!!!!!

  • I love this song but I wish I never saw the video. The only barely redeemable part was with Jonny and the fast cutting. He's the only memeber not to go through drastic changes

  • haha they conformed to this... this is what the whole song is about....

  • this song sounds a lot like blur's could be you, espacially the end

  • this is the best song of radiohead

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    masterpiece of 2:08 sec

  • Given that former label Parlophone have just released a box-set of their previous albums, this song is so ironic.

  • Mmm, I would be embarassed by the video too. I don't get why they're also embarassed by "Creep".

  • Omg......that is too funny. Wow just wow Thom sorta looks like Paris Hilton in this video. Yeah she scares me, LOL. Love Radiohead they have progressed so much since this...

  • hahahah this makes me laugh

  • Thom really freaks me out in this video. But this is not that bad. I wonder why they hate it.

  • This sounds reaaally indie... completely unlike Radiohead's other albums.

  • radiohead are really embarressed by this video nowdays

  • lol theyre probably embarassed by the song aswel, i am a big radiohead fan by the way just incase anyone thinks im one of them bastards that goes on videos just to slag people off

  • yeah......i love radiohead, and this song isn't bad, but the vid scares me a bit.

  • lol, me too.

  • yeah, it almost verges on cheesy rob zombie territory

  • ah, thom and his crazy hairstyles

  • wow, i had no idea that a video for this song existed.

  • amo a rediohead pero ste s l peor video ever d ellos.

    = los amoo!

    =D

  • Its a bit like the darkness how bizzare!
