Today, our senior class volunteered for some environmental awareness crap program, we all complained throughout the entire day, because we're mostly full of shit, but also because the heat was intense. On the bus back to school, some kid had this song playing, everyone went silent for a few seconds and I couldn't help but feel an inexplicable happiness forcing a smile on my face. It felt like our soundtrack for the day, having people's lips move but all you hear is 'these walls are paper thin'.
Gotta love Brock's lyrics. This song is definitely depressing, but it takes a much more lighthearted tone to it, which I love. Unlike other depressing songs by them, like World at Large and Edit the Sad Parts.
There are somewhat depressing parts to it, definitely. But some of it is happyish. :)
Really, Good News as a whole was a good album. The only song in it that was truly mainstream was Float On, and it was still not bad. WWDBTSES isn't quite as good as Good News, but it has better lyrics in it for sure. March into the Sea deserves to be a MMouse classic among fans, like Dramamine.
Edit the Sad Parts is, in my humble opinion, Brock's best work. And my favorite of theirs :)
Yeah, I know. Johnny Marr has been writing some of the lyrics for their new songs which is why they're not the same style, and he plays rhythm for them. I wish Modest Mouse was still a 3 person band though.
You could buy Interstate 8 from the internet if you really want it.
And that sucks, luckily for me I might be able to see them in September when they come to Seattle.
I can read the lyrics just fine.

Tow the line to tax the time, you know
That you don't owe
I can't be a fool for everyone
That I don't know

Depressing? I think it's happy.
And Edit The Sad Parts and World At Large are great.

Good News was an okay album, 7.5/10. We Were Dead would get about the same rating. March Into The Sea is pretty great.
Edit The Sad Parts is great, probably in my top 15, but not my #1 favorite. That's reserved for Third Planet or Interstate 8.

I wrote a reply but lost it D:
New MMouse in general just doesn't have the same quality as old MMouse. . . . .
Their music is just as good, but I'm less suited for the style of it.
If Interstate 8 wasn't out of print, I'd buy it. And I really wish I could see them live. . . .
But I'm too young to go alone, I'm the only one in my family who likes them enough to see 'em, and they never come close to my home state. :(

I know. Marr just. . .doesn't seem to fit well with the rest of the band. Tom seems like a good fit, but Marr? No.
I hope so.
Lucky for you. :)
Really, for my age, I'm into lots of music. Especially some of the greats from the 60s and MMouse.
foolonthehillz 2 years ago
Yeah, I don't know why Isaac wants Marr in the band lol. At least their new songs from the EP coming out sound great.
And yeah, I'm into a lot of music too. 90's is the best.
ModestMouse1207 2 years ago
I'm a fan of 90s and 60s the most. There's some modern music that I like as well. . . . .
They do sound good so far. I like the live version of Guilty Cocker Spaniel the most though. . . .
The Whale Song is great. :)
foolonthehillz 2 years ago
Yeah, there's a few good bands from this decade.
I like the studio version of Guilty Cocker Spaniel better, maybe it's just because of the better quality.
I've heard The Whale Song once, but it was terrible quality, so waiting for them to put that out.
Autumn Beds and Satellite Skin are great songs too.
