Yeah, but what always boggles my mind is trying to find out which refills and sounds these guys use...

I know a lot of producers pay a good deal of money for custom sounds and drum kits, if you hear him at about 2:20 he talks about his boy who comes up on rare samples and shit....that's probably some custom sound and sample wizard who's REALLY using reason and then selling the sounds to artists.

It takes hours, days, weeks, years to build a library of sounds. think of it like this--When you dont hear a DJ TOOMP track on the radio or see one of his productions on an ALBUM, he is in the studio working on new tracks and new sounds. and the circle continues with other producers. Its not the REFILLS that they use is the imagination behind the sound. HELL YOU CAN MAKE AN OBOE SOUND GANGSTA IF YOU PLAY IT RIGHT.

Yes, people use custom patches that they've designed themselves, but a large majority of drum and instrument sounds come from commercial sound designers. Spend a few hours in a studio with anyone worth being there with and you'll find out.
