The UFC are trying to get the ban lifted because of the success it posed in Sydney. Obviously getting laws changed takes time, but if the goverment can see a profit with plenty of human interest they definitely will consider it.
I have respect for boxing but it's stupid to think a boxer would always win against a MMA fighter, because real fighting is more complicated than boxing allows. MMA comes the closest to duplicating real fighting, but it's definitely not "real". If it were real B.J Penn would have jumped GSP in the parking lot before the fight.. from behind.. with a bat.. and some friends. That's REAL fighting and most people, trained or untrained, aren't capable of defending themselves in a REAL fight.
It's like this, all boxer would die in an MMA match with an experienced all rounded fighter, and the same if they went into a ring with an experienced boxer that works just on hands. but overall MMA fighters have the advantage, boxers don't have to watch out for kicks, chokes, hammerfists, takedowns, ground and pound.
@NeweraAaron This is true as well. It would be a lot easier for a boxer to learn defense to all of those things than it would be for a MMA fighter to be an elite boxer. A lot of great MMA fighters are 1 sided fighters who learned defense for the rest of the sport. Chuck Liddell was the biggest name in the sport for a while and all he did was box (was terrible at it) but had defense to other things. A boxer could do the same and better.
Chuck did prefer to strike with his opponent's, but he did not use boxing as his primary style ( therefore you would not know if he has terrible boxing ). Chuck has an extensive background in Kempo and Kickboxing. He had a slight blend of the two; relaxed stance and slightly lower holding of his hands. However, he kept his kicks to a minimum in fear of the takedown.
Standing, most mma fighters are very technically unsound, especially by boxing standards. However, they dont need to be technically perfect because there are so many more aspects to their sport. Honestly comparing the two are like comparing american football to rugby, just appreciate both for the things they bring to the table.

Boxing in MMA will be different still since takedowns and wrestling are there for example the Jab is no longer so important and punches set up throws and you punch them on the ground too!

UFC is for fat white hillbillies and untalented mexican and blacks that can't box. The only MMA fighter that I can respect is Royce Gracie. Dana White doesn't want his fighters exploited in a boxing ring. There have been so many possibly fights called off because of Dana White. Jones vs Silva, for example. I guess White is smart, he knew Silva would have left the ring with brain damage b/c UFC fighters can't throw. All UFC fighters are good for is rolling on the ground like its a snow day.

Continued. In UFC you need to fight a couple fights to get a shot at the title. The talent is diluted, which is a fact. There are thousands of boxers to every one UFC fighter. I happened to be at Buffalo Wild Wings a few months back and they were showing BJ Penn v St. Pierre. I decided to stay and watch. BJ Penn is supposedly such an elite talent and he gassed in the third round. UFC fighters can't throw with boxers, they'd get knocked out instantly. Their hands just aren't trained well enough.
You do realise that competing at a weight your body is not used to has a negative effect on the bodies consumption of energy, weather you gain it or lose it. In this case BJ gained weight, and was facing a man in GSP who appears to have an endless gas tank. Having a heavier man on top of you controlling you, while your tryin to squirm into an offensive position is immensly draining on the body, and as you said, this happened for 3 rounds equivelent of 15 minutes.
I'll be sure to tell that to my previous opponents that I've beaten in my previous boxing bouts. I'm an MMA and a Muay Thai competitor, and I've competed in boxing with a record of 16-2 as well. You can't say who's hands are well trained, and who's are not, because you are not there to watch there training and progression every day. Are all MMA fighters better on their feet than pro boxers ? And BJ is an elite talent, but so is GSP. Watch some of Georges' and BJ's more recent fights for proof

I'm being very open minded about this. There are more striking arts than just boxing. To say that a boxer would beat a Nak Muay or a Shan Shou practitioner 10 times out of 10 is truely ignorrant. The majority of MMA fighters do not have K1 or pro boxing level of striking. However, some do, such as BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, and Big Nog. When Big Nog was young, he even won three championship belts in boxing when he competed in Cuba. BTW, I compete in amatuer MMA and Boxing, and pro Muay Thai.

Frank probably would beat Cain, but there is always the puncher's chance. Also, mmath doesn't work. Styles make fights, not prior mutual opponents and varied success. And to be honest, I rank Mir's gaurd as second only to Big Nog himself.
Yea, well I was in attendance at that event. It was Adrenaline MMA 2 at the BJCC arena here in Birmingham, Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer. Sylvia was heavily out of shape. He competed at 265 lbs in the UFC, and walked around at 298 lbs. He weighed in at 311 lbs for the Adrenaline weigh-ins, with an abundant amount of fat composing his build. He wasn't the same Timmeh who fought in the UFC.

The UFC are trying to get the ban lifted because of the success it posed in Sydney. Obviously getting laws changed takes time, but if the goverment can see a profit with plenty of human interest they definitely will consider it.

I have respect for boxing but it's stupid to think a boxer would always win against a MMA fighter, because real fighting is more complicated than boxing allows. MMA comes the closest to duplicating real fighting, but it's definitely not "real". If it were real B.J Penn would have jumped GSP in the parking lot before the fight.. from behind.. with a bat.. and some friends. That's REAL fighting and most people, trained or untrained, aren't capable of defending themselves in a REAL fight.

It's like this, all boxer would die in an MMA match with an experienced all rounded fighter, and the same if they went into a ring with an experienced boxer that works just on hands. but overall MMA fighters have the advantage, boxers don't have to watch out for kicks, chokes, hammerfists, takedowns, ground and pound.

@NeweraAaron This is true as well. It would be a lot easier for a boxer to learn defense to all of those things than it would be for a MMA fighter to be an elite boxer. A lot of great MMA fighters are 1 sided fighters who learned defense for the rest of the sport. Chuck Liddell was the biggest name in the sport for a while and all he did was box (was terrible at it) but had defense to other things. A boxer could do the same and better.

Chuck did prefer to strike with his opponent's, but he did not use boxing as his primary style ( therefore you would not know if he has terrible boxing ). Chuck has an extensive background in Kempo and Kickboxing. He had a slight blend of the two; relaxed stance and slightly lower holding of his hands. However, he kept his kicks to a minimum in fear of the takedown.

Standing, most mma fighters are very technically unsound, especially by boxing standards. However, they dont need to be technically perfect because there are so many more aspects to their sport. Honestly comparing the two are like comparing american football to rugby, just appreciate both for the things they bring to the table.

Boxing in MMA will be different still since takedowns and wrestling are there for example the Jab is no longer so important and punches set up throws and you punch them on the ground too!

UFC is for fat white hillbillies and untalented mexican and blacks that can't box. The only MMA fighter that I can respect is Royce Gracie. Dana White doesn't want his fighters exploited in a boxing ring. There have been so many possibly fights called off because of Dana White. Jones vs Silva, for example. I guess White is smart, he knew Silva would have left the ring with brain damage b/c UFC fighters can't throw. All UFC fighters are good for is rolling on the ground like its a snow day.

@aswtx75 Of coarse a boxer would lose in a cage. Cage fighting is meant for animals, not humans. There are very few MMA fighters that I respect because most of them are out of shape and not talented. Like I said, I respect Royce Gracie because he is a master at what he does. Most MMA fighters are decent at a bunch of things. They are perfect at nothing. Boxers fight countless amateur fights for the change to even turn pro. Then have to fight at least 20 fights for the shot at a belt.

thats because MMA is still growing and NO DISRESPECT to boxing but many boxers r good but not great, if you notice boxing rarely has a super fight with two gifted athletes competing most PRO boxers r either retired or at other events they fight once every 6 months at least and to top it off they don't ask for challenges they don't strive to fight the best, only the up and coming boxers who r nobody's do, in MMA they strive for challenges they fight the best and they actually DEFEND their title

Continued. In UFC you need to fight a couple fights to get a shot at the title. The talent is diluted, which is a fact. There are thousands of boxers to every one UFC fighter. I happened to be at Buffalo Wild Wings a few months back and they were showing BJ Penn v St. Pierre. I decided to stay and watch. BJ Penn is supposedly such an elite talent and he gassed in the third round. UFC fighters can't throw with boxers, they'd get knocked out instantly. Their hands just aren't trained well enough.

You do realise that competing at a weight your body is not used to has a negative effect on the bodies consumption of energy, weather you gain it or lose it. In this case BJ gained weight, and was facing a man in GSP who appears to have an endless gas tank. Having a heavier man on top of you controlling you, while your tryin to squirm into an offensive position is immensly draining on the body, and as you said, this happened for 3 rounds equivelent of 15 minutes.

I'll be sure to tell that to my previous opponents that I've beaten in my previous boxing bouts. I'm an MMA and a Muay Thai competitor, and I've competed in boxing with a record of 16-2 as well. You can't say who's hands are well trained, and who's are not, because you are not there to watch there training and progression every day. Are all MMA fighters better on their feet than pro boxers ? And BJ is an elite talent, but so is GSP. Watch some of Georges' and BJ's more recent fights for proof

I'm being very open minded about this. There are more striking arts than just boxing. To say that a boxer would beat a Nak Muay or a Shan Shou practitioner 10 times out of 10 is truely ignorrant. The majority of MMA fighters do not have K1 or pro boxing level of striking. However, some do, such as BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, and Big Nog. When Big Nog was young, he even won three championship belts in boxing when he competed in Cuba. BTW, I compete in amatuer MMA and Boxing, and pro Muay Thai.

That being said, most of the top 10 rankings in each weight class are filled with UFC talent, if the fan base is big enough, Dana will bring them in. Just like he wanted to do with Fedor, he just didnt want to co-promote, which is understandable. After-all he brought the UFC back from the brink of bankruptcy, so as a business man he's doing something right! xD

Frank probably would beat Cain, but there is always the puncher's chance. Also, mmath doesn't work. Styles make fights, not prior mutual opponents and varied success. And to be honest, I rank Mir's gaurd as second only to Big Nog himself.

Yea, well I was in attendance at that event. It was Adrenaline MMA 2 at the BJCC arena here in Birmingham, Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer. Sylvia was heavily out of shape. He competed at 265 lbs in the UFC, and walked around at 298 lbs. He weighed in at 311 lbs for the Adrenaline weigh-ins, with an abundant amount of fat composing his build. He wasn't the same Timmeh who fought in the UFC.
