for a 3000gt it costs quite a bit, turbos, piping, intercoolers, all the internals that need to be swapped out plus tuning. id say 4k or so at the minimum.

You don't have to swap out internals. A DOHC 3000GT can be TT'd for an AVERAGE of about 1 grand using stock parts off of VR-4's. It doesn't even need to be tuned. Trust me. There are numerous writeups available as well.

the dohc 6g72 is a high compression engine to make up for it not being forced inducted. if u turbo a high compression engine, its not goin to blow right away, but the stress on the interals will be huge compared to a proper set up.

No kidding, flywheel HP is going to be the one that the manufacturers throw around, but it's just a meaningless number. Most VR-4's get anywhere from 240 up to around 265 on an AWD dyno. Those are the averages, some get considerably less, but this is usually due to poor tuning, boost leaks, etc. Lighter wheels and a lighter driveshaft cause a slight increase due to less rotational inertia in the driveline.

ive worked on both of these car models, like everyone is saying, the vr-4 is 320hp, the eclipse is 260hp, assuming a 20-30% drivetrain loss the vr-4 would dyno 290ish and the eclipse 220-230ish, so yeah the 400extra pounds on the vr-4 is not a factor, although the twin turbo vr-4 shined at top end with the turbos fully spooled. but we already knew this.
