  • HOLY SHIT! HES THE DUDE FROM HARD CANDY!!!! i didnt know that o.o holy crap hes diff with long hair

  • I mean she is ok, but for this character you need a better singer ehe isn't bad, but not good enough, the same with Gerard Butler, his terribly sexy, but not the beest singer, I rather they had choosen Ramin Karimloo he is an amazing Phantom

  • Isn't Emmy about 18 here? She looks so much older...

  • I think they both are awesome, and so is Gerard, so I am VERY happy with the casting :P

  • bah she's always been a weak singer....i don't even know why they picked her for the role??

  • Phantom, I will be your Christine any day <3

  • emmy's butt is just as hot as pippa's in that dress!

  • Must say i like Wilson´s voice very much, strong and clear with that naturally dark sound, but both are great.

  • dude emmy's voice sounds horrible .. in this :/ but rouals voice is amazing , but hers is just to ekkkk

  • patrick wilson. props. :)

  • Emmy Rossum's voice is out of this world, but, in this video, I'm actually more impressed by Patrick Wilson, especially since so few quys can sing like that!

As for Gerard Butler, he did a great job given his lack of musical background. But the Phantom is supposed to have a voice with almost supernatural proportions - I saw Hugh Panaro play the role on Broadway and the difference it made from the movie was really surprising!

  • @Amy3422 Hugh Panaro was...mmmmm, he was too incredible to describe with actual words. Let's just say I melted when I heard his voice in that theater. <3 Now Gerard, while his acting was fantastic, his voice had the exact opposite effect on me. They should have gotten someone like Hugh in the movie.

  • @carihigs Agreed!

  • Don't diss the Phantom -.- Gerard was amazing.

  • Am i the only one who expacted (sexy) Gerard Butler to jump out at the end and yell "YOU WILL CURSE THE DAY YOU DID NOT DO, ALL THAT THE PHANTOM ASKED OF YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • @RoseTheFanGirl No, I keep expecting him to :D

  • @RoseTheFanGirl Nope. I expected it too.

  • Ooooo chills

  • chills.

  • Emmy is so lucky. Kissing Patrick and Gerard? I'm jealous.

  • @iloveechoesofangels i guess they r the lucky ones :-\

  • I'm sorry but Andrew Lloyd Weber is bein a creeper in the background on that piano. lmao

  • I thought it was great live. And I also believe Gerard did amazing for no previous experience in musicals and opera. Emmy had background from when she was younger and so did Patrick. So it's not fair to group them like they are all professional singers. :( but I do love Gerard. xD

  • i see no flaws or imperfection, i think this was fantastically beautiful!

  • i wish i was that girl bcoz i can sing that high and beside that i am pretty also ...

  • I think Patrick looks better with long hair lmao

  • @vivianton1998 yea when i listen to this....i hear Christine and Raoul, but when i watch it i see Christine and some random guy

  • Omg! No I m not

  • First comment!!!!

  • did he cut his hair or what?

  • I agree with Rogerzilla, Gerard Butler sang well enough, he is an actor, not a singer, so for such a difficult singing part I think he did it well enough.

And Patrick Wilson has a nice voice, besides in the movie's special feautures the director(I think it was him) said that Patrick Wilson had already experience in musicals while Emily and Gerard didn't, so I think everyone of them did a great job =) you just cant expect they have the voices of the actual musical cus they are not singers ;)

  • even live they sound great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think Gerard has an amazing voice, accent, and he is beyond sexy. :]

  • @monkeyc What does Leonidas have to do with this video?

  • wonderful song, but i don´t recognize raoul first because of his cut hair.

  • @deansgirl333 I'm pretty sure he had a wig on in the movie ;)

  • @sneedo75 yeah, of course.

  • Очень понравилось!!!! замечательное видео-вызывает улыбку и поднимает настроение! Обожаю этот фильм!

  • OK to the people who are like "Gerard butler sucked."

    My opinion?

    Emmy Rossum-Beautiful voice.

    Patrick Wilson-Very nice, smooth voice

    Gerard Butler-Awesome, rock-edge voice.

    =EVERYONE WAS AMAZING

  • Emmy sucks the one person who should of played Christine is Tarja Turunen and before anyone says anything she has a much better voice than Sarah Brightman her vocal range is insane and epic. Tarja is a classical singer you don't really need much acting abillity to be hones thats my opinion

  • @lkirkup Well if you don't need much acting ability for Tarja then it doesn't really fit to the whole point. Classical singing as a standalone is very rare... the majority of it, is involved in either opera plays or musicals. Tarja has classical music training, but that doesn't really define her as a classical singer. She may have an insane and epic vocal range for rock (Nightwish or her solo career) but to be honest I don't see her playing Christine, Lucia di Lammermoor or other.

  • @lkirkup lol they didn't want a tarja type, though.

  • Gerard Butler is a brilliant actor, and he performed wonderfully as Phantom. I think it's "odd" for YOU to criticize Gerard like that.

  • Wait, is that Peyton Manning?

  • Emmy has a great Talent and While I perfer Sarah as Christine I believe Emmy do a damn good job.

  • any soprano with enough practice and breath under her can do that high E. It is done by many daily in the Operas.............

  • I agree that it is unfair to criticise Gerry's voice. He is not a natural opera singer, and hasn't had the training that some of these singers have had such as Emmy Rossum.

Personally, i love Emmy playing Christine better than Sarah Brightman. Probably because i saw the movie first, then the play. Emmy has such a naturally beautiful, and feminine voice. I think that sarah has a lovely voice, but is otherwise a bit overdone. Patrick wilson is awesome too. :)

  • you're genuinely criticising gerard's performance?

as great as patrick is, i'd much rather listen to gerard. anytime!

  • i love classics

  • I love it how you can see Lord Webber at the piano mouthing the lyrics.....he just cant help himself! lol

  • i <3 this movie, gerard butler's voice is magical and patrick wilson isn't bad either

  • I love Patrick Wilson. But Gerard Butler stole the stage and left him in the dust. But he sounded way good. As did Emmy. As always. Thanks for posting! :)

  • Wow! wonderful voice of Patrick Wilson!!! i really like it!!! : )

  • Fascinating

  • ive watched the original phantom of the opera, and i prefer the movie's singers better then the original.

i think emmy is perfect, beautiful, great body, and the most beautiful voice.

they picked the perfect everything for this movie(:

    gerard is also dayumm(;

  • @iannakarinn i love emmy's voice, and how when she's performing she has a look of pure love in her eyes...

  • I think Patrick took her hand cause she was shaking, poor thing. :D

And she was only 16-to be only 16, and hit the high notes of a much older professional (i.e. Sarah Brightman) is something extraordinary, indeed.

  • this is the best!!!<3

  • wow this is nice, its hard to play christine being compared to sarah brightman but emmy rossum is simply divine :D

  • ganda ng voice nla bgay n bgay ung blending ng voice nla sarap pkingan

  • Holly shit! It's Night Owl!

  • Patrick Wilson is awesome at singing :)

  • Webber himself! I love them, they all are perfect in this)

  • I don't see why people were so upset that she sucked. I mean, Christine Daae has a history of being played by people who suck... i.e. SARAH BRIGHTMAN.

  • @thetubkins Are you serious?! I can't believe you wrote that! Granted, Sarah Brightman is not my favorite singer, she's a bit contrived for my taste. But still, she's got talent.

  • @musicalmeg19 Something about her vibrato in "Point of No Return" simply turned me off forever. It sounds like she has marbles in her vocal folds.

  • They sound amazing live!! I love there singing voices and they look sooo cute together!!<3

  • they are both so beautiful!

  • Do they kiss @ the END?!

  • @alhambramoors89 ya!!!!why is it so???

  • she shouldve went with the phantom in the movie

  • I always find it amazing how different she seems when singing this vs. her singing "slow me down" from her album. She's incredible at both styles!

  • I love how Patrick takes her hand ... so sweet! <3

  • i <3 it.

  • is the one emmy singing with is the same person who played "raul" in the movie???

  • @jozene11 yup Patrick Wilson

  • @jozene11 Raoul. Yes.

  • She sounds nervous, poor thing... love her voice, but like katbby23 said, her voice was still developing. Also, she was what, 18 at the time? I think she did a great job for being so young =) Patrick is amazing! He has a very well-trained voice...I just HATE Raoul...lol

  • Both are such knockouts. n___n <3

  • are they a pair?

  • I love Patrick, but I HATE Rauol.

  • Patrick Wilsons voice is like butter! EXCELLENT singer!! :D

  • :-) Both did fantastic. Emmy needs a little meat on her bones...a stiff wind would knock her over.

  • I think that Sir Lloyd Weber has the last rights to all the Great Airs of the Twentieth Century truly a prolific composer!!!

All of his melodies are intoxicating and brilliant.

  • I love this song! I like Patrick better with his hair...idk...

  • I think, at the time, and perhaps even now, since Emmy is quite young, her voice is still developing. So that's going to play a factor in her singing. Lovely film and cast though but I'd love to see it live.

  • @katbby23 i totally agree! her singing is beautiful but you can tell her voice is still developing,,,,gotta love emmy!

  • CAlssical music is not easy like rock yes with rock you can just sing straight out. With classical you have to have a good voice, strong range, you have to be trained, you have to take care of it ( many ways I used to not know) because it's not something you can buy, and follow rules of singing ( vowels, breath support, wide open ect..)

  • @jillywilson classical music is a lifestyle choice.

  • the piano is screwing it up

  • @manifestdestiny17

umm the guy playin the piano um yeah thts sir andrew lloyd webber and he wrote phantom of the opera like the original broadway in 1984, he knows what he's doing with this better than anyone else...

  • So beautiful. I love the movie. Emmy is the perfect Christine.

  • yeah, he was not married at the time this was made......but many seen her and Gerry hanging together lol what a trio!

  • um.. I loved Gerald butler in this movie. he had a wonderful voice. i think it suited the phantom so much.

  • Aaaaaw the kiss in the end is sweet^^

  • It's a bit unfair to criticise Gerard Butler's voice, since Raoul's singing parts are really easy compared to the Phantom's. Anyone can slum their way through "All I Ask Of You", but "Music Of The Night" has two high A-flats in it which are really difficult unless you're a natural tenor, and I doubt Butler is. Not as bad as Christine's top E at the end of "Phantom of the Opera" though...hardly any women can manage that, even good sopranos.

  • Completely agree...but I really love Patrick Wilson's voice too, although you're right, the singing parts are easier than the Phantom's... you sound like you know a lot about music, could you maybe tell me if I'm right when I think this is lower than the movie version? And about the E at the end of POTO, I think Emmy couldn't sing it live, although her voice is stunning, no doubt, but I heard it's even pre-recorded in a lot of Broadway shows...

  • None of the songs are easy. You may think they are but they are not. You have to be a proffesional trained classical singer and be very open so sing those. You can't sing it rock style all nasly it wouls sound terrible. Also He has a high note at the end of this song.

  • I completly agree with you, I don´t know why so many people say that about gerald, I think he did a great job as phantom...but I have to tell that this song is really hard to sing in the higher end notes...although..I'm praticing it and that is always a problem to me

  • @rogerzilla I don't really understand all what u said cuz i don't know much about those music rules but ...Yea , these two have been trained about opera and Gerard is a total amatuer , but he did a very emotional version of "music of the night" . Gerard did a good job !!1

  • @rogerzilla Raoul's singing parts are not easy compared to the Phantom's. I sing both (not performing, but just to myself) and yes, the Phantom's part is harder, but I have almost as hard a time singing Raoul's part. And Patrick Wilson has an amazing baritone voice. But you are right that it is unfair to criticize Gerard Butler, because he is awesome!

  • @rogerzilla thats why during the show, they have the top E prerecorded, since most singers can't handle that night after night. this is also why the stage version has an alternate christine to perform 2 of the 8 shows a week...

  • @rogerzilla Also it needs to be kept in mind that traditionally the phantom doesn't have a better voice than Raoul :)

  • @rogerzilla no way! Patric has other music videos. And for someone who has seen him in person I know that he had to strain his voice to hit some of these notes. Gerry has his voice naturally. So he didn't have to work as hard.

  • @rogerzilla he worked as hard as anyone else, all of the actors work hard to give their audience what they want. Just because someone has a leading role doesnt mean they work harder than anyone else.

  • @rogerzilla uhhh no one can "slum" their way through all i ask of you, the high note is half a step higher than music of the night by the way. and patrick wilson is a much better singer. gerard butler is not a singer, they cast him for his name and his looks, and audio tweaks added vibrato to his voice when he would yell the high notes. so unless you're a professional singer, don't attempt to spread information about the topic. not to mention phantom is meant to be played by a BARITONE.not tenor

  • @rogerzilla oh, and by the way, how many live versions of gerard do you see on youtube? exactly. because people don't pay him to sing.

  • @rogerzilla i agree and i am an amazing soprano and i can barely reach a few notes lower than the high e in "the phantom of the opera"

  • @rogerzilla im a contralto and i can do the top e and its very easy

  • I envy Emmy soooo much!!! she's great!!! she's been singing at the metropolitan opera house since she was like 9!!!

  • Actually, 7 but you're close! :) I envy her too!

  • Great songs for this valentine ^^

  • Patrick is amazing here. Emmy is weaker here than in the film, but still okay. She is clearly still a bit green and he is quite the professional with two Tony nods under his belt. He has a fuller more complete and round sound to his voice. That will come to her if she continues with her singing.

  • @kj61077 don't agree...she sang as a young teen on a movie, "Song Catcher" was even great then.

  • I don't question her talent at all. She is obviously amazingly gifted and has had past history singing. That said, the growth and maturity of a voice is a simple statement not meant to insult her abilities. She will only get even better as she get older given where she is at already. Also, I stand by my belief that her performance here is weaker than in the film.

  • Good point! Guess I let my emotions rule out some objectivity.

  • The duet is great.....but I know I ain't the only guy here who notices that Emmy Rossum has a SMOKIN' HOT BODY....she's got the whole package. Sings, beautiful, and got a SMOKIN' HOT BODY....! DAMN....!

  • @FYRFOX198 totally! she almost doesn't seem real in how perfect she is in every way! body, face, voice! Damn is right!

  • Its a young love story... I love the innocence of this song...

  • oh sooooo sweet

  • wonderful

  • OMG, this is SOOO cool! LUV IT!!!!!!!!

  • emmy likes too swivel her head her head around alot o.O i couldn't watch. love phantom! just not all that head bobbling buisness.

  • Wow, Patrick sounded amazing...

  • This was flipping gorgeous. ALW's piano playing was bliss too :)

  • I can sing just like Emmy!

  • yeah right sure u can

  • yha i can!

  • lucky you :)

  • Can someone please send me the lyrics to this in spanish for class?

  • just google it

  • @xLambx3 Well, if you google it, you will get the word for word exactly the same as English translation that will not fit the music, and will not make as much sense to the Spanish-speaking.

But I actually meant to post this on the Spanish version of All I Ask of You that was up in another window! Disregard this one!

  • she is so gorgeous and has such an amazing voice

  • Lover her voice!

  • That was beautiful. Emmy your voice is so precious and powerful. This song is wow, I loved the movie and encourage you to always sing!!!

  • jw but wat year version was this? 2004?

  • his voice is sexy. hers is beautiful. both amazing!

  • it is isn't?!? sigh! Patrick Wilson and to think he's married... sigh!*

  • that was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

    =]~

  • whats up with her wobbling her head? O.o

  • maybe it helps her project her voice

  • I love both of their voices, Patrick has had more practice since he has been in so many productions and Emmy's voice is still amazing and still growing since she is so young.

    <33333 Love this song!

  • His voice is amazin...much better than hers!

  • her voice is sooooo beautiful!!! dont listen to all those haters her oice sounds like an angel

  • i love patrick wilson's voice, emmy looks the part but her voice just doesn't do it for me. for a production so grand, and with such a role, i'm expecting someone much more musically talented. (i listen to this musical over and over in my ipod performed by other singers, and i know how good it could sound)

  • right now her voice is odd

  • I totally understand what you're saying. She's pretty good, but she's not the best.

  • i think it's just this video. On the others she sounds more beautiful :)

  • people, she's probably pitchy and weird here cos she's nervous--wouldn't YOU be if the hotness that is Patrick was singing to you????? cos I would haha but to me, she doesn't even look that bad here and i like her singing!

  • Those are some high heels.

  • And a great butt

  • Is the maker of this video dissing Gerard Butler?

  • I hope so.

  • it better not. :p

  • yeah, seriously they're just jealous ;)

  • he did damn good for it having been his fist time singing... well.. for a movie.

  • live broadway is far harder than lip shyncing in a movie!

  • do you realize that even if he didn't sing it while recording the movie..

he DID sing it before hand and that IS his real voice.

either way you look at it you cannot say that he can't sing.

Perhaps nowhere near as experienced as Michael Crawford but he does sing.

  • Before making statements like this you should know that Patrick Wilson has a B.F.A. in Drama from Carnegie-Mellon University. His theater work has produced many nominations and awards.

Just Google him he started singing prior to acting!

  • Patrick Wilson has a B.F.A. in Drama from Carnegie-Mellon University. His theater work has produced many nominations and awards.

He was singing prior to acting so no this is not his first time

  • Lol the ending when he came up to kiss her he was probly thinking.

"oh if he kisses her then ill fucking kiss her LOLOLOLOL"

  • she's a lot better than this in the movie...

  • I think the room acoustics were harsh and did her no favors here, but she still sang well. As you say, its better in the movie. Wilson is very consistently good wherever he sings it tho.

  • I completely agree. The room ruined her!

  • I love Emmy Rossum and I think she acts well and looks great in this role, but I'd hope for more musically. Although this is a musical, Christine needs to be partially classical to excel in this show because of the range. But it's a beautiful song.

  • emmy just needs some training---- like now. you can tell that patrick is the more experienced singer ( god hes such a natural, he makes it look soooo easy)

  • Emmy has been singing opera since she was 6 or 7. I'm pretty sure she's more experienced than Wilson!

  • wilson has been on broadway since he was young. emmy has never been in a starring role in a professional setting. she was on stage when she was little but listening to her you can tell she does not have the training or experience wilson has. theres nothing wrong with that, shes young , has a good base, and is just starting her career, but she needs more training. wilson on the other hand has starred in 7 broadway plays. he def has some more experience then emmy, thats all im saying

  • awesome

  • I'm not too keen on Emmy's performance here....not her best, i've seen her do soo much better. But still they are really good especially patrick :D

  • agree completely

  • his voice is so...dlfjhadskfajdsfa.

    ahh!

true talent, for both of themm.

  • Patrick is...amazing

    Gerry is HOTTT

    Emmy is...meh. nice hair?

    jk...jk. =) they're all great

  • The music here is so much slower than in the movie lol

  • I love Emmy's current work with pop music, but here she really didn't support her breath and it effected her notes from being on pitch. It really bugs me :(
