This innings could have broken the oldest record in Test history; most percentage of runs by a single batsman in a completed innings. Laxman scored 167 out of 261 = 63.98% of the Indian total. The record still belongs to Australia's Charles Bannerman, who scored 165 out 245 = 67.34% of Australia's total in the first innings of the first test match ever played in 1877.

After this inning and the epic 281, I thought Laxman would go on to become the best the in the world. He used to attack a lot more before. These days he scores a lot of hundreds and all, but they are normally dour affairs. Maybe it doesnt help he is at number 6 in the lineup. I stil feel India need to attack more by sending him at three.

Poor Laxman left stranded. I saw this live. After the blow to the head by McGrath, Laxman shifted gears and gave it all. Hats off to VVS Laxman.

Laxman has done a lot for the team, but his efforts mostly drown in the shadow attnetion craving glorified teammates.

VVS Laxman is truly a very gutsy performer.
