@StarControl69 They weren't 'everyone' alive, but the statue collection of all of the Bhaalspawn, and just as their body 'crumbles' when they die, so does their stature. It's not official as far as I know, but it makes sense that Bhaal would keep track of his children in some way and it gave a rather horrific impact of just how many Bhaalspawn there truly are/were. Black Isle gave out a statement a long time ago that that was the intention of the ending movie for the first game.
The ending was breathtaking... reminds me of that vast collection of statues that Zeus kept in greek mythology; every individual statue being someone's soul back on Earth.
I was just thinking about the Helm Of Balduran you find in Irenicius' Dungeon. In baldurs gate 1 you actually can find it; so when I found that out I was thinking in BG2 "Ha Ha Irenicius you forgot to sell that with the other stuff of mine you sold" :P Throughout BG2 and Throne Of Bhaal respectivelly I always used that helmet as it was simply one of the best items in the game (especially for an early one). Long live Baldurs Gate! :D
I remember trying Baldurs Gate I years ago but it kept locking up at the end of the chapter 7 maze (just before the final battle). As a result I completed BG2 first and the exact same thing happened with IWD1 (it kept locking up at Wyrms tooth) which in turn meant doing IWD2 first. Though years later I was wiser and got patches for both respectivelly and finally completed them along with the sequels :) Back then I was only a kid and that was the age when very few children used the net.
It's quite scary when you think about it. The internet was alien to me all those years ago but to a young child in this day and age the internet is a lot more widespread and it's not unheard of for a little kid to have MSN these days...........
Baldur's Gate series, to me, remains the best fantasy RPG series in the history of gaming. My computer won't read the disks so I can't even install them, I'm so sad.
I love these games more than my own soul, so thank you for uploading these videos so I can at least see the FMVs and cutscenes again. :D
This ending was epic, because you really get a sense of just how many children Bhaal fathered, and it's jawdropping.
This was the first RPG i ever played. I had never played a game where you could walk anywhere, customise characters and make decisions. IT BLEW MY MIND!!!
I played this game, though I was too young to understand wtf a storyline was, so I didn't catch this one... my best memory of this game was being in a sewer killing giant jellies :3
Great game and story...but remember, bioware (and black isle) took much inspiration from the historical SSI gold boxes games, taking them to a new level
I think Sovereign's theme from Mass Effect was based on Bioware's earlier work, like the background music to this cinematic. If you listen to the rise in first few seconds, they sound almost identical.
This was so epic I saw it the first time. I really had a hard time killing Sarevok in my first game - just to see that there are a few hundred more bhaalspawns. Great game.
word on the street is they are. They practically said it officially a while ago, though it's been silence of the lambs since then but that was only an year ago. So what was the rumour? Well, Atari said they are looking forward to a third part, but it will NOT be made by BioWare. Who then? maybe Obisidan, a studio founded by former Black Isle members. Or maybe another one, who knows. We'll just have to wait and see.
So thats what happens? I played this game for a while, i never got extremely far though, and what the fuck does all that mean? It makes no sense, well whatever lol
basically hes called Sarevok whose a child of Bhaal the lord or murder, because he died his essence has contributed to Bhaal's release, which is why his statue broke, so the other statues seen are his other kin.
Baldur's Gate gaming style sucks! unlike diablo, the game mechanics are too complex for new gamers like me, i cant relate, spells are limited no mana bar and moves 1.5 inch per second(no run mode). The game may be fun 2 play if u know all mechanics fast enough. I dont know why people love this game, the story maybe one of a kind that may cause the reason why it scored 9.2 on gamespot. I finished diablo and sacred, later on found out another rpg and turned on wasting money 4 this crap!
What was so great was that the very first time I beat the game, you know, when you didn't really know what you were doing and you didn't reload the game after leveling to get the max hp rolls and spell memorizations and whatever, the very first time I beat the game my group was all dead and it was just my mage vs. Sarevok, and I ended up killing him *exactly* where he is shown lying dead on the Bhaal skull. It was EPIC. EPIC I tell you.
i have been searching 4 this game since years ago and i never find it!!!! please someone tell me: where can i download baldur's gate?? please tell me!!!!! i could never play this so recommended game!!!

THANK YOU, FOR SPOILING, A******!!!
I watched this Video, because i wasn't able to finish Baldur's Gate 1.
So I wanted to see, if there is any connection in the ending of BG1 to the Beginning of BG2 (whitch starts with some dialogues, that make me think, that there has been an open Ending in BG1).
But now I can sell BG2 without playing it first. Much, much thanks to you!
Yeah, because Imoen being a Bhallspawn was probably the most mind blowing revelation in any game EVAR. I never saw it saw it coming, when I think of how Irenicus revealed it, I still get tears!
For everyone who's wondering why not all the bhaalspawn are shown in the games..as read on wikipedia: most of them just want to be left alone, or don't know that they're bhaalspawn.
Btw, that Bhaal did some work oo...how long did he live? 100 years, and worked for 50 years to get that much offspring x.o...you'd think 10 or so would've been enough o.o..
Really..>> oh, and another thing, there are more bhaalspawn who have died (evident of some statues that are only rubble oo...)
Soo am I right in thinking that all those statues represent Bhaalspawn and the crumbled ones are Bhaalspawn that have died. And also that if one of the Bhaalspawn kills all the other ones he becomes the lord of murder? is that what Saravok wanted to do?
Ok thanks. I completed Baldur's Gate 1 last year but did not pay much attention to the story. I'm playing it again now and I am understanding the plot. :D
You're right re your first prediction. Your 2nd and 3rd ideas are wrong, however. The whole premise of the Throne of Bhaal sequel was to show that Bhaal had plotted with his chief cleric Amelyssan to have all his children killed so that he could absorb their essences via a ritual carried out by Amelyssan(who, of course, deliberately failed to do the ritual , so that she could grab all the energies from the fallen Bhaalspawn in the Abyss.
As regards Sarevok, according to BG1, he (wrongly)thought that by initating mass slaughter via constant warfare that the divine blood within him would be somehow ignited and he would ascend to godhood.
Yes, he wanted to kill all of his brother's and sisters. The reason behind this is because when a god dies, their child ascends to take the throne for themselves. So if he killed them all he would become the new Lord of Murder, problem is some of the children were dragons. Being the lord of murder it would make sense he would want his children to kill one another in the hope of truly becoming a god. In a way they would become just as twisted and warped as he was.
I hadn't heard, but that would make sense since it was Black Isle and Bioware's pride not to mention the best game they ever did (in my opinion, but there were other good ones)...if you look at most polls on the subject of which of the two's games people most wanted another game of is the Baldur's Gate Series.Personally I'd tend to look at the possibilities of playing those characters off in two them as demigods(good/evil)or as the set that chose to ignore heritage.3endings of the game;Difficult
@TheTurnipKing I like Dragon Age, it's a good game, but apart from being a fantasy RPG and being made by BioWare, it bears almost no similarity to Baldur's Gate.
It's far more like the fantasy version of Knights of the Old Republic, also made by BioWare, & shares an almost identical game engine as well. Not to mention that Dragon Age is set in BioWare's original universe, so it has none of the Forgotten Realms feel that Baldur's Gate did, or the history/races/religion of Baldur's Gate.
This game is hold a special place on my gaming shelf. I have spent hundreds of hours replaying and exploring this game... and its been enjoyable everytime. A true classic .
I just finished this game 5 minutes ago, and it feels to bad i dont get to exploit all the riches of these would-be heroes and Sarevok... i mean WTF, the game just ended the second Sarevok died. Although... i did already have 150 000 gold i never even got to use. Cheap me!
Is there a possibility of alternate endings such as the one predicted by Tamoka (or whatever her name was)?
When I finished BG (and also part 2) for the first time, I felt a little sad, saying goodbye to my embosomed party of adventurers.
It's just like when you have finished reading a very good epic book. Once you turn the last page, you know it was that good that you're going to read again one day. But you also know that the second time it will not be that exciting.
Only all that chaos and war would cause a lot of bloodshed and murder... he couldn't become the wrong God, was only the power of Bhaal that was "up for grabs", so to speak. And no, all those statues were Bhaalspawn.
Sarevok was an idiot... by creating a war and economic troubles in the realms, he wasn't becoming the lord of murder, he was instead becoming the lord of chaos. Cyric. In hindsight, that would be funny though, if he actually become the wrong god.
If you look at Bhaal's portfolio he was more about ritualistic type of death. If anything, balthazaar had it right in BG2, he wanted to perform a ritual to ascend to being the lord of murder, then sacrifice himself. I think by planning an all out war like Sarevok wanted, was more chaotic than Bhaal's portfolio dictated.
Nah.I thing all this sculpture its famous heroes from Forgoten Realms world. And Sarveok was only one of this person:) There are many strong semi-gods.
Sarevok: What kind of question is this? You are belonging to a group which members has died so many times that the priest in the temples give you a discount for reviving...:)
On a side note: I ended up completing the second baldurs gate before the first one. I tried to complete the first one but it kept locking up. I completed the first one last year lol and the second one 6 years ago.
@StarControl69 They weren't 'everyone' alive, but the statue collection of all of the Bhaalspawn, and just as their body 'crumbles' when they die, so does their stature. Perhaps I should have clarified, I meant the place where all the statues were. Probably in the Abyss or something.
Athmel 2 years ago
That is more an allegory than a real place.
EltargrimIrithyl 2 years ago
Eh, I'd be more believing of that if the realms were less fantastical place.
Athmel 2 years ago
i played it thrice in german, french and english! this game is a master piece!

one of the best games ever created. No sequel can ever match it.

Pretty messy. Someone should take a broom to that temple of Bhaal so that Bhaal gets all of those Sarevok bits.

lol
jerzkid87 2 years ago
Looking closely to the Spawn next to Sarevok doesn't she/he look like Imoen?
Arvignron 4 years ago 7
um hate to say it but yep. it is imoen. shes bhaal spawn 2.
beawulf9 4 years ago
Though she's one of the weaker ones. Her blood taint doesn't start to show up until a lot of Bhaal's essence has returned to the Throne.
TheTurnipKing 3 years ago
yeh. and i find it funny how many bhaal spawn there are. and its weird to think about it but bhaal had...fun.....with allot of diff races lol

love it

But you also know that the second time it will not be that exciting.
seba4 4 years ago 14
I agree with that. You can only play Baldur's Gate I & II for so long.
Fymious 4 years ago
That's what the mods are for. BG is awesome, without the mods I would of abandoned them a while ago, sadly.

Such an awesome adventure...

Your not alone with that wish, mate.

Amen to that :D

Those statues are Bhaal spawns, an indication just how many of them are there. But really, you will only end up fighting 5 of them later on.
DukeTheGold 4 years ago 7
Ahhh... brings back memories. There was so much emotion and debth to the old cRPGs, compared to today's hack fests.
Oracurax 4 years ago 11
This is a proper rpg, screw that ff crap.
scummy1985 4 years ago 7
I don't agree with you Trilac69.
These statues are the remaining Bhaalspawn.
Elvis1237 4 years ago 5
Only all that chaos and war would cause a lot of bloodshed and murder... he couldn't become the wrong God, was only the power of Bhaal that was "up for grabs", so to speak. And no, all those statues were Bhaalspawn.
Gathgazar 4 years ago 2
Baldurs Gate is great, but only the first two games. Icewinddale sucks and the other BG games also.
Svenson1981 4 years ago
The statues are indeed bhaal spawn. It's even somewhere on the bioware forums. Can't find the link right now though.
Selageth 4 years ago
Hm... Maybe that was HIS symbol, other heroes have different symbols.Of course this is only my opinion :)
Trilac69 4 years ago
Sarevok was an idiot... by creating a war and economic troubles in the realms, he wasn't becoming the lord of murder, he was instead becoming the lord of chaos. Cyric. In hindsight, that would be funny though, if he actually become the wrong god.
markutsc 4 years ago
Although Cyric is the new lord of murder aswell, but yeah it would be funny :)
coolpie 4 years ago 4
He wasn't trying to cause chaos. That was just an inevitable side effect of trying to start a war between Baldurs Gate and Amn.
TheTurnipKing 3 years ago
If you look at Bhaal's portfolio he was more about ritualistic type of death. If anything, balthazaar had it right in BG2, he wanted to perform a ritual to ascend to being the lord of murder, then sacrifice himself. I think by planning an all out war like Sarevok wanted, was more chaotic than Bhaal's portfolio dictated.
markutsc 3 years ago
Nah.I thing all this sculpture its famous heroes from Forgoten Realms world. And Sarveok was only one of this person:) There are many strong semi-gods.
Trilac69 4 years ago
Then why in the hell would the symbol of bhaal appear there... in a temple of bhaal? Theres no sense in what you're saying.
markutsc 4 years ago 3
so let me get this strait. all of those statues are baal spawns?????????
darthlordrevanpwns 4 years ago 2
Exactly - randy so-and-so, wasn't Bhaal? :)
BillTheBard 4 years ago
Sarevok has many good lines in TOB.
Imoen: Can i ask how does it feel to die?
Sarevok: What kind of question is this? You are belonging to a group which members has died so many times that the priest in the temples give you a discount for reviving...:)
mbalazs 4 years ago
To bad he doesn't have his black armor in TOB
SeamusPaxman 4 years ago 4
It wouldn't work for him anymore without Bhaal's taint in his blood. He says the same thing about the sword IIRC.
TheTurnipKing 3 years ago
LOL

Let me guess: do those statues represent all the other remaining bhaalspawns?
SpaceMonkey1983 4 years ago
Sarevok. kick more ass then any other BG char (of the NPC)

On a side note: I ended up completing the second baldurs gate before the first one. I tried to complete the first one but it kept locking up. I completed the first one last year lol and the second one 6 years ago.

How come all of the other Bhaalspawn don't get a super dramatic death movie?
Batonfromage 5 years ago
because Sarevok is the coolest ;)

I second that.

How did you manage to convert the BioWare movies into .swfs? I've tried to turn 'em into .avis but it seems impossible!
