So true - the parents are talking happily while the kids are pummeling each other in the background. I think what I've always liked about Swan Princess is how it depicts all the little realities of life. You get to see them grow up through childhood, adolescence, and finally young adults. You see that Odette hasn't always been sweet and stunning, and Derek hasn't always been gracious or heroic. The only thing that surprises me is how she went from a fierce tomboy to the stereotypical "angel"

It always pissed me off that the King and Queen are single parents, believe in politics over marrying for love, want to join their land BUT instead of just getting hitched, they wait 16+ years for their kids to do it for them. What a waste. Besides, when the King kicks it later and Odette is stolen, at least the Queen could be running both kingdoms! Idiots.

This way, when the children marry, there will be no infighting about who would be king, and there would be plenty of future heirs. A lot goes on behind the bars of politics but one of the most important thing (to the monarchy) was the blood line.
