I reckon funks more of a feel more than a style, a bit like jazz... of course theres certain things you play in funk/jazz which ultimately makes it jazzy or funky, but stil I reckon if you can you should try feeling the funk...

i totally agree with that , but dude i think other drummers must have a good level with drumming to post a video and teach people i think this guy have a lot of things to say about theories and exercises for beginners but he's not talented with being talking on a cam

I agree with you allmost totally, but about the stick, is just a matter of taste and sound. I've learned different ways to hold/use the sticks aswell, since the back of it sounds different compared to the tip. and holding it more to the middle has a different control/feeling compared to the standard hold.

it can be loud, soft, syncopated, loose, jazzy, pop, rock.. u just gotta know how to groove.. gotta let yer instincts move yer hands n feet.. but to get those instincts--like i said--u gotta listen to the music.. and KNOW it... it helps if u memorize a lot of licks the classic funky drummers played.. eventually u're gonna find your own place in there and u'll hear yourself jammin as if you were right stage with James, Bootsy, or George... gotta listen..

All in all, funk is LARGELY based around improv and the "1".... It takes someone who's in total control of their instrument to hafta be able to vibe with others i.e. bass and guitar, to name a few... Ya gotta know how to let the music move u.. den u just let the drums express how u feel about it..lol if that makes any sense..

Everyone is a critic on here. The guy plays a nice groove. And the reason you say he hold the stick "wrong" is complete crap cause holding it the way he does with give a fatter snare sound.
