Nice idea but I would recommend using cat/dog food and sum calcium and multi vitamin and tropical fish flakes and grinding it all up in a coffee blender or something similar. Yes I know I say and a lot
does it have to be potting soil? or can it be a substrate with soil feels and looks? cause i am using peat moss and fir jungle mix...but great video. i am owning tarantulas eventually get some reptile types too:)
could you inbox me how this setup worked im also trying to set something up but rather then feeding them orange cubes i will be feeding them a variety of fruits and veggies
Hello ! Thank you for posting this video...You have some really great ideas that you are sharing here. I want to breed my own crickets as well. And, I was wondering if you have come up with any improvements ? I was wondering about using insulation or heat to protect them during the cold winter months (if stored outside in the garage). Please let me know how things are going ! ~ matt
do u need a heat pad i dont wanna get one or a light its an apartment so can i just
put the bin in with the food a pt then take it out every three days and put it in a nother bin and will they hatch im on the top floor so it gets pretty hot up there in the winter its like 85 in there will they hatch and can i breed slowely i only need 10-15 cricks a week inm fust looking for a cheap easy idea to breed them i only need a small amount i dont care if they hatch/grow slowely or if theres deads
@TheJestersDoor Listen to yourself. I bet you're mother would be proud because you're trolling on a video about making insects have sex. You have my honor sir :P
A 15 year old girl holds hands with her 1 year old son. People call her a slut, no one knows she was raped at 13. People call another Guy fat. No one knows he has a serious disease causing him to be overweight. People call an old man ugly. No one knew he had a serious injury to his face while fighting for our country in the war. Repost this if you are against bullying and stereotyping. I bet 95% of you won't
@modernlamer Shut the fuck up you fuckin dumbshit. I am a fuckin Nazi and hate you. The fat guy and the old man raped the girl, get your fuckin story straight.
this is worthless because in the end your buying something constantly which is cricket food you should breed super worms instead because all u need is old fruits and oatmeal which no one eats and is like a dollar for a shit load and they are epic cause u get to see an epic metamorphasis
it would be even better if you did a step guide of how you set up your habitat for the crickets by showing us instead of telling us since ikno there are people that are more of a visual learner
I'm interested in how this method has evolved since you've posted this video. How are the crickets doing? Do you have a fairly successful hatching process?
Also, something not mentioned in the video that I'm curious about is the smell. I know that crickets can start to smell something terrible after awhile. What has been your experience with this, and what do you do to minimize the smell?
Cutieeee, woot woot! lol, Got a quick question. How do you know when they've laid their eggs? Do you just keep it the container with the potting soil in the container with the crickets for like a week or something, and then move it to the other container?
@saulhudson420 Oh nevermind, I just got to the part where you said 1-2 days. So there's no specific way to tell if they laid the eggs, you just assume after a day or 2 they have, right?
tape the sides of your tanks with packing tape before you have pin heads, it will keep them from getting up to the lid and getting out all over the place when you take it off. Seeing how wonderfully neat you keep things I think you don't want crickets everywhere in your home lolz. Also make sure to take out any dead crickets as soon as possible because they will stink and you'll get mold.
@fluffyzhangfei yeah i forgot about the mesh thing...yeah they will get out and then you've got only one option, get a free ranging gecko and let him get to it, cause those babies will invest a house like no business...ewwww.
It's actually unecessary to even have male crickets to begin with because crickets mate during their juvenile stages therefore when you buy adult crickets at the store the females are already carrying eggs. To stop the crickets at ALL stages of growth all you have to do is line the inside of the enclosure with some 2" packaging tape about half way up the side walls. other than that great job.
i would say you got it down. i would recommend using dog food or cat food to feed them just crush it up first, just to save even more money. i was wondering what you were raising them for, i think you might have mentioned it in the video maybe i didnt catch it
after hatching, how long does it take befor they can lay eggs of there owb, also put packing tape aroung the sides of the set up to stop the pinheads from climing out
hey hi how long did it take for the eggs to hatch ive had a container that i moved into a tub but they still havent hatched its been almost a mounth and i am on my 3rd container of eggs and none of them have hatched theirs alot of tiny clear things i am guessing those are eggs i would like to know how long it too for youre first bach of eggs to hatch reply as soon as posebile
I have a question a answer will be appreciated. When I'm planning to bread crickets I'm going to use a butter box... Yeah I know XD but I was wondering, after about 11days when they hatch, is it ok to put the crickets with the adult crickets? or should I use a separate container? Thanks nice video btw
An easy way to stop crickets getting out is to simply put a border of sellotape around the top of your container. They can't get a grip and just wander off. I've got no lid and zero escapees. Had a few new births after just a couple of weeks. Corn, lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli all work for me. Might try that dog food idea to beef them up
thats a great set up how did it work out.did u get alot of babies?
i have a lepard gecko, bearded dragon.a male and female pastel balls, albino male ball .female spiderball.and 2 adult femal normal balls. so i have alot to feed so im thinking about trying to bread crickets .along with rats so i would like to no how u made out . thankyou
I saw on another video where a guy crushed up dog food with a hammer and fed it to the crickets. I tried it and the crickets were all over it. I've been doing this for a couple weeks now and it seems to be working great and much much less inexpensive
oh ok whew..i just started to breed and all i have is potting soil..i was worried the plant food in the soil would kill the crickets so i sifted as much as i could lol
u see the net u are using for the cover now, u can use that to cover the laying egg container, so the females can still lay eggs, and others cant eat the eggs, and for the pinheads, u can put strings on the side of the laying egg container so the pinheads can climb out of the container once they hatch :)
clear tape across the top will not allow them to escape. And Incubate them with a heat pad below the container. the will hatch quicker. If you take a shallow plastic dish and fill it with "dollar store" marbles (single layer) and pour in water, the crickets can easily drink without drowning. The water lasts alot longer than wet paper towels. Hope this helps. :-)
i have 3 difrent cages the breeder tub i use potting soil to lay eggs in then 1 week later i put the eggs into a very very humid tuc when the crickets are a nice size i put them into the feeder bin thenthey go in my baby crested geckos cage as his next victims
Just to help... the crickets get the eggs in them wen theyre young not wen there adults so you would also save some money i guess and space if you got straight up females
I have a Savannah Monitor Lizard. Hes about 8 inches long and I usually feed him about 3 to 5 crickets a day plus either a few meal worm, a night crawler, or a pinky, Im thinking of breeding them in 2 1 gallon icecream buckets with about the same setup, and I dont know how long hes gonna eat the crickets, but its gonna be a while. sould I go big and breed alot of them or just stick like 15 or 20 of them in the bucket and just keep getting bigger? The lizard is supposed to get 4 feet long.
I was wanting to know how the cricket farm turned out ??

And you can use the concoction for substrate for the eggs. Then the pin heads can eat it.
And for water you should use the yellow/golden cricket gel.
