But will it keep its cohesion at a higher scale mockup? (Or is this just a mini uav, idk I'm new to your project)
Motor looks to be on a multi axis ring... Have you considered using hydrogen and more engine power? Have you considered using internal segmentation? rigid hull?
Good question. I adjust for ambient temp when I fill it, and the volume doesn't change much. Obviously larger ships up for longer than one hour periods will need compensation. On the other hand, with strong envelopes fairly highly pressurized, there is a fair amount of latitude.

His website says he's am inventor, OF WHAT, a blimp, lighter than air RC, you may have DESIGNED something that is a derivative work of others, but you are hardly an INVENTOR of some new technology you 6'th grade teacher.
Saw him on FOX, Q: Isnt there a law against operating a blimp that big. A: YUCK YUCK, NOT YET BUT THERE PROBABLY WILL BE NOW, BECAUSE I AM SUCH A DUMBASS I FLEW WITH A LOW BATTERY AND NOW ALL RC'rs CAN BE PUNISHED FOR ME BEING A SELFISH ASSHOLE, YUCK YUCK.
How come it's always the way that when you have a great idea like a solar powered airship , someone there is always someone on you tube has already done it. Fanstastic effort....but a more amazing concept. I agree..if an elementary school teacher can do this then what the hell is McDonald Douglas doing?
If I got a nickle for every "great idea" I've had, Bill Gates would be a finincial midget! However, in general, no one wants to listen! So all I can say is, take your best one and run with it.
It also helps to get your butt fired so you have a little time--search for Daniel Geery and National Education Association, if you'd like more specifics on this concept--most especially if you give a hoot about education.
Couldn't lift be provided by the sun as well? I've seen toy blimps that float simply by trapping heat inside. Might need more of a steady lift for something like this though. Really cool!
There are "hot air airships." They are rather large and cumbersome appearing, but you should be able to find them with a Google search. Heating the helium seems like a more practical solution to me, but then again, if you had a thin shell of carbon fiber or perhaps aluminum (like one of the old Navy blimps), you might be able to "super heat" the air, like an over.
do U think it is possible 2 have 1 of these in big 4 carrying stuff? i never understood Y V use planes, trucks,... S transport vehicles. wasn`t it much wiser 2 use blimps 4? NE1 i was talking about it told me: there is a problem with engines in case of wind. really?
Larger airships are on the agenda. My thinking is that the top speed of airships has been limited by their large frontal area. The trade-off here is carrying capacity. But with new materials, and modern RC electronics, it is possible to go thinner.
My friend, Lee,llduckett@comcast.net, has videos he can will sell you on how to make an earlier version (the design is continually evolving). If you watch that and still want to make one, we'll work with you on how to do a later version (the basic process and materials are the same).

The battery is in front to balance the ship, fore to aft. This means more weight with wiring. Current models are ~22 feet, 2 feet diameter. At 15 mph, they probably go 1.5 hours. The solar one goes as long as the sun shines.
That was great... out of interest, do you need to place the battery a long way from the motor to balance the ship out? How big is it? and typically how long can it fly?
what motor / prop comb are you using?

You should make that think opaque so it can be seen better. Too bad I don't still live there so I could see that thing fly!

this is awsome. What remote control did you use to control the airship?
crapyou03 3 years ago
Im convinced. And to think this without even adding wings for extra lift.Amazing.
tomterahedrob 3 years ago
Does it use control surfaces or is the motor gimbaled?

pretty cool stuff. what happens at extreme temperature changes (for example, when it gains or loses elevation)?

It's made of Heptax. Difficult to come by, but I can give you a source if you want.
danielgeery 5 years ago
where do i get Heptax? Is it gas tight like say tedlar? ie will the helium always stay in your ship or will it slowly permeate out?
