@RickyMoss KJ was a FAR FAR FAR better PG. Iverson was the better scorer, though KJ could score like that too when he was playing alongside another PG, like Kidd. But Iverson was never anywhere near the true PG that KJ was.
I fucking love what he says, I already got that on tape I am not coming back in there anymore !!! hahahah. Also Hakeem showing him respect that must be priceless.
It's funny how everyone is saying Hakeems block better because they have to search for it to where kjs dunk is top 14 on the all time greatest dunks ever but I think it should be way lower that anyways if Hakeems block was better than why isn't it on a video like kjs was? Kj is a bad ass
@FreshPrinceof973 i think saying that hes one of the greatest pgs ever is a little bit exagerrated.....but ill definitely agree that he was among the best pgs in the 80/90s
@whoohoo117 He is definitely one of the best PGs ever. Highly under rated, IMO. He's done things that only Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas (and now Chris Paul) have done, and did it more times.
@FreshPrinceof973 Even the stats back him up.Kevin Johnson is one of the only pg's in history to average 20 ppg/ 10 apg for three consecutive seasons.I believe the only other guys to do that was Magic and Tim Hardaway when he was playing run n gun style up in Golden State with Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullins.KJ did that BEFORE he played with Barkley.Just imagine is a pg did that nowadays, he'd have hype for days. The only person i could seeing doing it today is Chris Paul.KJ is underrated
@FreshPrinceof973 I don't dislike him....and I was born and raised in Houston. It's not his fault that the rockets GM was dumb enough to trade cornerstone role players for an aging great. Still in his prime....he was the best PF ever....and most certianly the most unique player of all time. There will be other Magics....Kareems, Birds, and even MJ's....before they'll be another 6'4 power forward that was stronger and faster than all the others.
@JColeM7785 I agree with what you said except for the Magic Part. You really think there'll be another Magic before another Barkley? I don't know. they are both unique, but to me, Magic is the most unique of all. the ONLY guy that could start for anyone at all 5 spots. (rodman could defend all 5 spots, but couldn't play the point on offense).
@FreshPrinceof973 Hmmm, I'll have to add one to that. I think Johnson and GARY PAYTON are the two most underrated point gaurds of all time. Just sayin. Point well taken though.
@JColeM7785 aight, so to the first statement....Yup...Abdul Rauf in his prime was elite.....and had he not be secretly banned from basketball he would have continued to LIGHT it up. Ask the #1 seeded seattle supersonics guard, Gary P.
as for my top 10, in no order....
Walt frazier, Isiah Thomas, Jason Kidd, Calvin Murphy, Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Pete Maravich, Gary Payton, Magic Johnson, Bob Cousy
few others: Steve Nash, Lenny Wilkens, Dennis Johnson, John Lucas....
@JColeM7785 IMaravich was NOT a true point. he was a fire it up scorer.
The only PGs I have over KJ are Stockton, Magic, Kidd, Cousy, Payton, MAYBE Walt Frazier and Thomas
Chris Paul, Deron Williams, DJ, Wilkens and Nash are in a smilar class, but by no means are they obviouusly superior. KJ was about as good as anyone, save the biggies in Magic and Stockton. the rest are arguable. KJ was THAT good and saying he wasn't is revisionist history.
@mamacornettesmoney You REALLY like KJ. Nothing wrong with that. I applaued you giving kudos to a player that would otherwise get very publicity outside of Arizona. He was good in his hey day....damn good. But he wasn't good long enough and he definitely never reached "great" status. All the guards I named dominated on both ends of the floor for more than 5 years. PM may have been a good shooter, but he was legendary for his play making. Ike is my best of all time on BOTH ends...my opinio
@JColeM7785 Ike? You mean Zeke? Yeah, he was damn good.
Nash has NEVEr been worht a shit on defense. He's a liability. No way would I take him over KJ. Maravich didn't play D either and was more a shooter than a PG. Same with Iverson, though he did hustle on D.
Murphy? No. DJ? Maybe. Lucas? NO WAY. Wilkens? Possibly. And HELL NO to Abul-Raouf! Are you kidding? And I'm a HUGE LSU fan. He was a shooter and a shooter alone. Played ZERO defense and was as big a ball hog as they come.
@JColeM7785 In nine seasons as a starter from 1989-1997, K.J. averaged 19.8 points, 10.0 assists, and a .497 field goal percentage. Over that long of a stretch (virtually a decade), Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson are the only other players in NBA history to post those kinds of numbers (approximately 20.0 points, 10.0 assists, and .500 field goal shooting) in the most important offensive categories for a guard.
@joekiddlouischama And K.J. received the NBA's Player of the Month Award (back when the award was for the whole league, not each conference) over eight years apart, first in February 1989 and again April 1997. So based on that fact and my other comment, how was K.J. not good enough for long enough?
@joekiddlouischama And how was he never "great"? The only players in history to average at least 20.0 points, 10.0 assists, and a .510 field goal percentage in one season are K.J. and Magic Johnson. The only players in history to average at least 20.0 points, 10.0 assists, and a .500 field goal percentage in multiple seasons are K.J. and Magic Johnson. The only players in NBA history to average at least 20.0 points and 12.0 assists in one season are K.J., Magic Johnson, and Isiah Thomas.
@joekiddlouischama And K.J. was the first player in NBA history to average at least 20.0 points, 10.0 assists, a .500 field goal percentage, and 2.0 steals in the same season (Chris Paul has since joined him). Also, in the 1990 playoffs, K.J.'s Suns became the only team to defeat both Stockton's Jazz (55 wins) and Magic's Lakers (a league-high 63 wins) in the same postseason.
@joekiddlouischama Yes, injuries hurt his resume; unfortunately, K.J. played with at least one undiagnosed hernia for four years. And, no, he wasn't an "all-time Dream Teamer," although he would have been worthy of the original Dream Team. But he was definitely a great point guard and he was great for nearly a decade.
@joekiddlouischama Yep...and KJ did the 20..10..500% thing for 3 straight years.
KJ was definitely one of the best pg's of that era.Including Magic,Isiah,Stockton.
In fact, i think Stockton was somewhat of a system pg.He probably got 90% of his assist off running the pick n roll with Malone.KJ was way more dynamic. For some reason,he just never had that "superstar" charisma. He always seemed rather conservative. He was like the pg version of David Robinson.Decent, upstanding guy..but kinda boring
@DirtyFaceCapon3 ... Have you heard Bill Walton's comments during the third quarter (and other parts) of Game Two of the 1996 Suns-Spurs series? The game is on Youtube and he speaks to your thoughts regarding the differences in temperament between Robinson and K.J.
Yeah, it would have been intriguing to see Stockton without Malone. K.J., of course, enjoyed individual and team success before and after Barkley, in addition to with him.
@mamacornettesmoney I'd definitely take K.J. over Kidd, Payton, and Cousy. K.J. was a much better scorer/shooter than Kidd and a much better passer/playmaker than Payton (plus, Payton was shaky at shooting off the dribble and his free throw shooting could leave something to be desired).
And Cousy couldn't shoot or (to my knowledge) defend like K. Johnson.
@joekiddlouischama Now, Magic was superior to K.J. and Stockton enjoyed the better career. But for peak/prime value, one could make a case for K.J. over Stockton In a 1991 Sports Illustrated poll, 16 of 21 participating coaches chose K.J. over Stockton and that season, Hall of Famers Rick Barry and Dan Issel gave K.J. a slight edge over Stockton as the best point guard after Magic. Also, for what it's worth, K.J. made the 1991 All-NBA Second Team over Stockton.
Yeah but Hakeem got the last laugh on him and the Suns two years in a row. One dunk big deal. I wonder that KJ was thinking in 1994-1995 when they blew a 3-1 lead on the Rockets. One dunk or 2 titles? I prefer the titles Thank you.
If you play the game you are exposed to this kind of thing, I believed he got blocked like 2 games after that but anyway imagine the rush of dunking on the the Guy who has the most blocks in the history of nba!!!! Or someone else has that record :S please correct me if I am wrong.
When I think of people getting posterized, 3 dunks come to mind. Carter completely over that guy in the olympics, kemps reverse over rodman in the 96 finals, and this one. All completely athletic, mind-blowing, and gorgeous!! K.J. rules!!
@FreshPrinceof973 Barkley was injured the entire time he was in Houston. He used to clang pointless 3-pointers at key points in the game. He has no business shooting from there.
Then of course he has a big, stupid mouth. He has the nerve to rip on actual champions. It's sad.
And good analysis on Yao never scoring 19 points in his rookie season.
The funniest thing about Barkley is he's the only one who doesn't know he's entertainment as "the stupid, drunk uncle." We're laughing AT you.
@XKG80 Chill out....Barkley says plenty of stupid things....but give him credit when he says the right things. Point is.....he's the arguably the greates PF ever in his prime. He deserves to give his opinion whether stupid, unfounded, or otherwise.
@XKG80 It was once theorized that a dumb statement is merely a thought until it leaves a person's mouth. Once it has exited....it is a known fact that the person who allowed such a thing to occur is also stupid. Hmmmmmm
@XKG80 you're wilding.....you mean to tell me true Rocket fans love Pippen? HELL NO.....all of my friends hate pippen more for the money he stole from the Rockets....that's a man that never brought his all to Houston.
@JColeM7785 When did I say true Rockets fans love Pippen? I said Pippen assessed Charles Barkley brilliantly, i.e., as a fat lazy bitch.
Pippen didn't fit in Rudy T's offense. They wanted Pip to sit on the perimeter, defer to the post, and shoot three pointers. Not his game. But he did fine in Portland thereafter.
Some might say he's a bad teammate, but Michael Jordan and six titles wouldn't agree. Imagine how frustrating it would be to play with Barkley after you played with MJ.
@XKG80 Couldn't agree more mate... Pippen seemed to be out of place within the Rockets offensive set. Taking absolutley nothing away from him, one of the greatest players ever... Just didnt fit in Houston. It was good seeing himself and Olajuwon on the same team though. Two true professionals of the game
Thats funny. Hakeem looked like he was caught off guard, so KJ definitely got him.
one think KJ doesn't tell you is that the dream got him back by swatting him away from behind...but definitely, KJ never tried to bring it back in after that lol
I agree! If he wasnt injured so much he would have easily had 18,000-20,00 pts and 9,000-11,000 ast. He was truly one of the best point gaurds ever and he was so quick. him and tom chambers was a good duo also and him majerle and barkley also. the suns sounld have won a championship in those years 89-95
@FreshPrinceof973 kj was a beast, at one point in his career he was averaging 20 and 12!...nash won the mvp with lesser numbers and didnt get to the championship. nowadays people consider nash to be one of the best pgs ever and i dont disagree, but kj was chris paul before chris paul was chris paul. youngsters never watched him play, had they watched they would know. kj was the truth and anyone including stockton, hardaway, kidd, nash, payton, isiah, magic all of them will tell you.
KJ was the best PHX PG of all-time, better than Kidd and Nash, I don't care about the hype of Kidd and Nash's two MVPs. KJ is lower profile because he played in the same era as Magic and Isiah. He was better than Stockton, but hamstrings got him in the end.
Karl Malone's over rated ass, I didn't see the greatness in him, sorry, John Stockton just passed to his ass a bunch that's all, he was good but not great, I didn't see him do anything that was great, hell his daughter got 2 rings before he did wtf?
Hakeem was a class act. I wonder what the play would have looked like had he closelined KJ? THAT would have made a good poster, and Hakeem could have swallowed the $20k fine and the 1-game suspension.
On another note, KJ is one of the all-time greats. He'd have been 1st team All-NBA 3-4 years in a row if he hadn't played in the MJ-MJ era. And it's a shame he got hurt, or he'd be a shoo-in HOF-er.
To be fair, Kenny said on TNT once (when KJ was on) that their defense was set up to push guys to the baseline, because once you drive baseline, you have to deal with The Dream, which normally results in a missed shot or a block.
Based on this vid, that makes plenty of sense. Because he just gave him the baseline. If you contest as many shots as hakeem did, every now and then one of them is going to get by you.
i remember this game too. the suns looked like they were going to lose the game and i was pissed. then kj comes in and dunks over hakeem. it made me feel a little better about the loss. not much, but a little.
Russell was great and all but who did he play against? I think he may get too much praise due to the fact that the guards weren't dunking like they are today.
Now Vince Carter goin to the rim to meet Bill Russell that would b something to see!!!!!!
bill russell won eleven championships in a row. hakeem is the greatest post 50s-60's centers to ever play the game, and my personal favorite. but eleven rings? that's unbelievable.
tim duncan possesess similiar statistical numbers as hakeem, but observing the playing styles of both i would have to give the edge to olajuwon due to his agility and speed. unparalleled. we all remember the dream shake. peerless.
Different position. Duncan is the best pf of all time, although I'd say Barkley, Moses, and Karl are certainly in the conversation. I used to think he was a center playing the four so he wouldn't get Shaq'd out of all star games, but the more I watch, he really is an old school style power forward.
i was watching this when it happened.suns were losing with no chance of catching up & then i guess KJ decided to wake up everybody!!! just amaizing one of the best dunks i have seen
hehehehehehe !! ''Little moooooon'' hahahaha !! Thats awesome ! I never thought that could happen in such an important game with such great egos at that level of pro sports ! Thats awesome to know, Ive got a story to tell !
Nice but all I know is that Lebron is the greatest to ever do it. No disrespect to anyone

Some might say he's a bad teammate, but Michael Jordan and six titles wouldn't agree. Imagine how frustrating it would be to play with Barkley after you played with MJ.
XKG80 1 year ago 2
@XKG80 Couldn't agree more mate... Pippen seemed to be out of place within the Rockets offensive set. Taking absolutley nothing away from him, one of the greatest players ever... Just didnt fit in Houston. It was good seeing himself and Olajuwon on the same team though. Two true professionals of the game
auzziemetal 1 year ago
Which came first--KJ's teabagging dunk, or Olajuwon's swat for the ages?
XKG80 1 year ago
Thats funny. Hakeem looked like he was caught off guard, so KJ definitely got him.
one think KJ doesn't tell you is that the dream got him back by swatting him away from behind...but definitely, KJ never tried to bring it back in after that lol

also he was good for 20-22 pts a game 10-12 ast 50% from the field and 80% from the line.
EMWBOI07 1 year ago
I agree! If he wasnt injured so much he would have easily had 18,000-20,00 pts and 9,000-11,000 ast. He was truly one of the best point gaurds ever and he was so quick. him and tom chambers was a good duo also and him majerle and barkley also. the suns sounld have won a championship in those years 89-95
EMWBOI07 1 year ago
@FreshPrinceof973 kj was a beast, at one point in his career he was averaging 20 and 12!...nash won the mvp with lesser numbers and didnt get to the championship. nowadays people consider nash to be one of the best pgs ever and i dont disagree, but kj was chris paul before chris paul was chris paul. youngsters never watched him play, had they watched they would know. kj was the truth and anyone including stockton, hardaway, kidd, nash, payton, isiah, magic all of them will tell you.

KJ definitely has a legacy in NBA history, I agree.
I definitely liked him more than Stockton.
sgbtexan 2 years ago
Lol. KJ can remember that as the high of his career. Thanks for the memories Dream!
sgbtexan 2 years ago
KJ was the best PHX PG of all-time, better than Kidd and Nash, I don't care about the hype of Kidd and Nash's two MVPs. KJ is lower profile because he played in the same era as Magic and Isiah. He was better than Stockton, but hamstrings got him in the end.
MobyLick 2 years ago 2
dont forget the block that Hakeem did on him though. It was 100 times better than this

KJ!!! Those were the days for us Suns fans. Still. Mad props to Hakeem. Because he was really a class act.

Karl Malone's over rated ass, I didn't see the greatness in him, sorry, John Stockton just passed to his ass a bunch that's all, he was good but not great, I didn't see him do anything that was great, hell his daughter got 2 rings before he did wtf?
KGLookALike 2 years ago
Hakeem was a class act. I wonder what the play would have looked like had he closelined KJ? THAT would have made a good poster, and Hakeem could have swallowed the $20k fine and the 1-game suspension.
On another note, KJ is one of the all-time greats. He'd have been 1st team All-NBA 3-4 years in a row if he hadn't played in the MJ-MJ era. And it's a shame he got hurt, or he'd be a shoo-in HOF-er.

maybe if kenny smith was able to stay in front of his man, Olajuwon wouldn't have gotten posterized
crackwhen 2 years ago 3
Yeah, kenny kinda ushered him to the base line.
You should try to take the baseline away, but easier said than done. We're home on the comp, not gaurding one of the quickest gaurds of all time.
randycash39 2 years ago
To be fair, Kenny said on TNT once (when KJ was on) that their defense was set up to push guys to the baseline, because once you drive baseline, you have to deal with The Dream, which normally results in a missed shot or a block.
synopsisav 2 years ago 2
Based on this vid, that makes plenty of sense. Because he just gave him the baseline. If you contest as many shots as hakeem did, every now and then one of them is going to get by you.
randycash39 2 years ago 2
i like his swag " i only needed to do it once " lolll

i remember this game too. the suns looked like they were going to lose the game and i was pissed. then kj comes in and dunks over hakeem. it made me feel a little better about the loss. not much, but a little.

Russell was great and all but who did he play against? I think he may get too much praise due to the fact that the guards weren't dunking like they are today.
Now Vince Carter goin to the rim to meet Bill Russell that would b something to see!!!!!!

who hasn't though?
gagonaako 3 years ago 2
Yeah Bill Russell the "so-called greatest shotblocker ever" never had to face 6'1" guards with this ability like Hakeem did.
FuShengAlex 3 years ago
bill russell won eleven championships in a row. hakeem is the greatest post 50s-60's centers to ever play the game, and my personal favorite. but eleven rings? that's unbelievable.
phishhead11 3 years ago
I would agree with you on Hakeem. Would you also put Tim Duncan in the same category as Olajuwon as well?
paulp1021 3 years ago
tim duncan possesess similiar statistical numbers as hakeem, but observing the playing styles of both i would have to give the edge to olajuwon due to his agility and speed. unparalleled. we all remember the dream shake. peerless.
phishhead11 2 years ago 6
for a center, hakeem was damn too smooth. unreal

@akaimpc1000 we is agree wit u lol
NegroXFile 1 year ago
Different position. Duncan is the best pf of all time, although I'd say Barkley, Moses, and Karl are certainly in the conversation. I used to think he was a center playing the four so he wouldn't get Shaq'd out of all star games, but the more I watch, he really is an old school style power forward.

i was watching this when it happened.suns were losing with no chance of catching up & then i guess KJ decided to wake up everybody!!! just amaizing one of the best dunks i have seen
