cover isn't a version.. it's a tribute.. stop with the version.. you all talk about it like it seems it's cover from a another band and metallica and apocalyptica just made a cover of it.. metallica made.. and apocalyptica just made a tribute.. but the orginal is alot better.. the feeling of the lyric and james voice... and the beautyful bass sound to it.. with touchness guitar playing.. and the solo in it :) it's a great tribute :D

Other pop genres can be transcribed into other instruments, as well. A lot of "synth pop" is covered on acoustic guitars (and it mostly sounds better), classical is transcribed into metal or techno or samba, country into rock or synth pop... that's just how it is, it doesn't really speak for the genre that other instruments can play it.

Aside from that, Apocalyptica play the same song on CELLOS, but the genre is still the same as Metallica's.

I must say I love this cover more than the original Metallica. Of course, its cover, there are no words etc. etc., but for me with the cellos it is more emotional and beautiful and Im really touched by it, especially with the middle part.

Don't think others would have said it better myself. Its how the feel of the song is. Originals aren't always the best. Take Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath for example. Pantera did a better job on the song and not only with Philips vocals (As the feel was like Ozzy was on drugs) but Dimebag's guitar work and how smooth it went with the way they covered it. I found 311's cover of Led Zeppelin's D'yer Mak'er to the same effect. Crush 40 has done the same with many Sonic game songs.
