awesome saw them live tonight at burns night addiwell, really lovely people and awesome talented band x (btw did an instrumental and i dono what its name is ah!) x
to Charles and his descendents rather than Elizabeth and her descendents. It is funny how folk comment on people passed over because of religion and moan about foreigners etc yet never seem to bother about sexism or acknowledge that all the royals at that period married foreigners in virtually every generation! the whole idea that someone should rule because of virtue of birth is so absurd anyway :-)
Once, as a young Scot, I beleived that music stirred men's hearts, but swords and action changed circumstance and history. With the benefit of an alcohol soaked middle age, I now believe all is lost for every individual nation without the taming of the rabid and carniverous beast that pose's as gobal capitilism.
@Frillar no thats not entirely true ,the crown of england belong to the house of Stuarts, historically, and not from the Netherlanders..Europe was made by the Sword......
@cptmaad Mind a surname only gives a clue to one side of your ancestry. ie the paternal. Sophia of Hanover was heir to the throne in preference to James the Old Pretender because of religion but by blood (whatever than means) she was just as British as James and by degree she was more Scottish than James. Sophia's mother was Princess Elizabeth of Scotland who was born in Fife. She was the sister of Charles I who was also born in Fife and was the grand-father of James. Only sexism gave the throne
@cptmaad ..they changed their name to Windsor, yes, but their name before was Sax Cogurg Gotha, they hastilly arranged a name change when , in WW! the German Air force rained bombs on London from "Gotha" bombers.
@Frillar It's not about definition, it's about history. Libertarian is a modern coinage for right wing anarchism from the USA. Burns did not believe that the rich should be given free rein to do whatever they wished to the poor, but libertarianism would result in that.

I'm partial to the Stamp n Go Shanty version, but this is absolutely stunning. Talk about authentic and dead honest!

Great rendition though.
Frillar 3 years ago
why did he randomly shout "freedom" half-way through? Hardly an appropriate song.
Frillar 3 years ago
Wasn't this an anti Jacobite song? The Stewarts were not what I'd call Liberal, or Libertarian.
AK49Gunner 2 years ago
Yes, the song was anti-jacobite.
Burns considered the cause trivial and a waste of human life.
Burns was a libertarian. He seen the jacobites for what they where, murderous tyrants who hoped to force their views onto others via the sword.

@Frillar Burns was not a "libertarian", that's a modern American form of right wing anarchism.

@BobMonkfish i think you need to look up the definition of a libertarian
