it might be the same glitch than the one to get mew. i guess it depends on the last pokemon you killed before (it depends on that pokemons special-stat.)

I got Voltorb a couple times. Caught him actually once and then turned out it had 1 EXP Point so it was in the Medium Fast Group. Then I caught my Nidoking and when I went to withdraw it, it froze my game. It said it had 777,162 EXP Points already and 63 more to reach level 2. So therefore according to the chart, he'd have 9 and when I went to do the experiment, my game froze. Please help. Can we not withdraw a level 1 in gen 1?

interesting, i tried this just now, only instead of using growl 6 times on a leve 4 caterpie, i used Leer 4 times on a level 3 Pidgey, and it spawned at level 7 Nidoking.

@alekrhindress The growl is what deducts a level from the pokemon. 1 growl = 1 level. Which is why its used 6 times. Then the glitch happens making it a lv 100 when it gains exp under 54.

When I had yellow I never did anything but train Nidoking (I was 5 I didn't have much to do XD). It is still the only pokemon I ever bothered training to level 100/

I have done this twice, my game is fine. The first time I got a voltorb and the second time I got a slowbro. I much prefer the slowbro. My game is NOT messed up, it's fine. This is a great thing to do, thank you for the vid!

Please note that the level of the Caterpie does matter. I was following this video to get a Nidoking, and a level 5 Caterpie showed up, I thought "Maybe this will work." So I did the growling thing, blah blah, then a Slowbro showed up. That won't work. The only pokemon that will become level 100's are The Nidos, The Starters, The Trade Evols, and Mew.

@AndreasSWF The reason Nidoking pops up is because he warped away from a trainer and went against a lvl 4 Caterpie that has the has the same Special stat required to face Nidoking and the guy leading you to Brock is like battling another trainer so when you go back to the same area the trainer you fought was from, it triggers a battle with Nidoking

@cronon94 anything below level 2 in these games has negative Exp. When the game adds the exp to from battle to it, it's still negative usually, so it freaks out, or something like that. It'll recieve over maximum Exp, but the game shows the pokemon as lvl 100.
