  • wow still great

  • Beautiful just beautiful

  • still amazing but slightly diffrent

  • still absolutly breathtaking

  • just watch the origional people

  • They still have the Torvill and Dean magic after all these years...looking superb!! I watch their 1984 Olympic performance when I was about 13 years old and, even now, I still want to cry when I see all the perfect scores pop up on the screen (and I know what's going to happen!! hee hee!!); absolutely beautiful.

  • Wow! I watch their performance back in 1984 and impressed me a lot, today I am more impressed to see they did it better this time 22 years later. Torvill and Dean are my favorite!

  • that drummer must be bloody good to keep time all the way through this, and the skating is just superb

  • Torvill, Dean and the Bolero will never grow old. They're just as magical now as they were when they first preformed this routine.

  • WOW! :D

  • fukcing yellow light near the end of the dance i couldnt see shit with that in my face!!

  • Haha, they had some of the original bits in there too! Amazing!

  • Grandios!!!

Ich habe die beiden damals siegen gesehen.

Was für ein Eistanz! - Die haben den Bolero gerockt!!!

    Best wishes!

  • No matter which, of the many vairities, of Bolero i watch it brings a lump to my throat. Watching JnC and especially watching them skate Bolere, were via video or live it makes me proud to no only be British but to say I'm also from Nottingham. Cant not WAIT to see them live again this year.

  • If I can still as flexable as this when I'm in my 50s I'll be a very happy man.

  • the original was heart stopping. I remember it well I also saw them on a World tour.course there not as sharp as 25 years ago., but still womderful..,.

  • heavily edited sound track. Down from 4.5 mins to under 3.

  • super ....

    Dankeschön !!!!

  • Is it just me, or is the beginning quite a bit different than the '84 performance? They're still great, but it's not as clean and sync'd as the original. Not unexpected considering the years. I'm impressed they still do it this well.

  • @mortussia - Yes the start and big part's of it where edited. The whole dance shortened by 90seconds to just 3mins does not help.

Jayne was 27 and Christopher was 26 back in February 1984 for the Winter Olympic's (and also the 1984 World Championship's at the tail end of March, where they went 1 * 6.0 better and got 13 - 9 for Artistic impression again and 4 instead of 3 for technical ability).

Roll forward to the first series of Dancing on Ice and they were 22 years older

  • I saw it live and it was the best thing I've ever seen!!

  • They still have it!

  • Incredible... again! Sir Chris and Dame Jane...... Where the hell are their titles?

  • Their version this year was amazing!

  • indeed, how they kept themselves in nice positions was incredible and they have immense strength.

  • the only ice dance tandem to ever come within a mile of them is virtue/moir.

    torvill/dean is untouchable.

  • O.O that was honestly four years again????? i thought it was last year! how the hell did i manage to loose four years???

  • they have skated to bolero in the final of every doi series. thats probably why.

  • Special in every way describable. Love you Torvill and Dean. Bolero is the best:)

  • its tweny five on for christ sake ..still bliody briliant

  • World No.1's still survive...

  • I am betting you, though, that if Torville and Dean were skating now, young now, they would still rise to the occasion. They were sited as one of the reasons the complicated lifts came into the programs.

Old computer, new computer...they were the best of the best at that time, and I believe would probably be a top of the line computer today.

I still say NO-ONE can beat them.

  • I have to agree with that!

  • wow..... after all those years..... they are still fantastic!!!!

  • Comparing Virtue & Moir to Torvill & Dean is like comparing Federer to Borg. Borg is/was a great player but today's game is far more physical and there are more possibilities with the new technology.

Comparing them is like comparing top of the range computer today with a top of the range computer then but the current top range couldn't have happened without the first top range.

Also remember, the scoring system is completely different now, its much less subjective now as it was in 1984!

  • As a Canadian I am much more emotionally attached to Virtue and Moir. They represent my country and they're very likeable people. Likewise, if someone asked me which performance I enjoyed more between Virtue and Moir and Torvill and Dean I'm going to have to say I liked Virtue and Moir-- but that is for personal reasons.

However, I don't think an intelligent Ice Dance fan from any country could honestly say that Virtue and Moir were /better/ then this pair. I agree with you prigg88.

  • @mikamai I am pretty much the same because Virtue and Moir are pretty much the reason I love ice dance as much as I do but however I do agree that Torvill and Dean are much better than Virtue and Moir tho I feel Virtue and Moir could grow to be just as good as them

  • stil to this day i have no idea how he spun her 3 times like that by the shoulders.

even tho this was an abbreviated version of their 84 performance on a MUCH smaller rink, still amazing!

  • best programm ever, no doubt

  • yeah, they must be shit.

i mean the fact that they're still the only couple to have gotten all 6's EVER, doesn't really matter does it....

    douche.

  • don`t speak, do it

  • go on, do it. I bet you can't.

Learn it, video it, put it on youtube and then we'll see.

Of course its basic compared to these days but that is only because it has evolved as a sport and that is down to Torvill and Dean. The ISU changed the rules due to this awesome performance.

  • WOW... They still have it 25yrs later!! I had just watched their original dance to Bolero!! It would be awesome to see them live performing!! NO ONE can touch them!!

  • Nearly 27 years on and their still amazing!!!

  • Torvill and Dean - No Olympic pair has ever done better than they did.

I remember one year when another couple tried to skate to Bolero. What were those two fools thinking - it was a sad thing and an insult to Torvill and Dean.

  • a pile ov shit was it?? and tht was y they were awarded a gold medal and perfect 6's from all of the jduges?? and tht's y no-one has done tht since???

  • @wolfster09able o i would really like to see you up there i know how difficult it is i bet you wouldnt even get a 1.0 from each judge and if its rubbish why look at it?

  • The Chinese have so far done pairs skating -- lots of technical requirements. Ice dancing has different rules... and it's more about the choreography & presentation. Torville & Dean are UNSURPASSED, and Ravel's Bolero will FOREVER BE LINKED with Torvill & Dean's 1984 SUPERB Performance! In this vid they are 25 years older, and still they look FANTASTIC on the ice!

  • @wolfster09able Really, well why did they win gold then you prick!

  • i feel so proud to know there english (:

and this video was uploaded on my birthday :D

  • isnt it just so emotional and tearful, we're all soo proud of them!!! i wasn't even born then (born 1988) but wow i cant believe that happened!!! XDDD and i LOVE Dancing on Ice!!!! are you watching it this year??? ive never missed a single episode, i miss Ray Quinn though :(

  • i'm watching it. Not missing Ray Quinn at all! Really disliked him. Didn't think he was that perfect.

  • WOW!!!

  • it's a pitty the studio only had a one-third size ice rink to perform on. Any chances of it being moved to a full size one for next year? (If they is another series)

  • There is another series but i doubt it will get bigger. They did a bolero on tour this year and that rink i'm told is 2/3rds bigger than the studio rink. The studio rink has to be a certain size to fit in the studios down at Elstree along with an audience and all set things.

  • They're great! I didn't know that they performed this again in 22 years after??? Amazing! Folks, greetings from Croatia. I watched them in Sarajevo.

  • yeah, they are. They've done another 3 versions. '07, '08 and '09 - '09 was particular close to the '84 original as it was the 25th anniversary. I was lucky to see it 3 times on the DOI tour last year.

  • Only one word: PERFECTION

  • Four words...

  • They are just AWESOME

  • zilam98 wtf This woman's arms are absolutely fine. Guess you are gay... in which case, sorry to intrude into your special little world!

  • They are the best ever. There are very very few skaters impressed me. Witt, Torvill and Dean. After 25 years, I still remember the moment I was watching the performing on the ice, the best one ever. I believe that no one has performed better.

  • She is 49 and he is 48 on this video!

  • i love seeing jayne and chris perform bolero it is dazzling to watch and is outstanding every time and i dont know how they have made different versions

  • they still have it !!!!!!!

and he looks even better than ever!

  • i remember watching that on TV,wasn't it this year (09)

  • They did another version of the 1984 original bolero this year for the 4th series of DOI. This version of bolero is from the first series of Doi shown in 2006!

  • It was shorter but they still got it & never lost it!

  • I remember as a school kid watching them win the Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984. That was just as awesome back then as it is now. Obviously they had to cut 3 minutes off the original, but it still is awesome!!

  • jayne torvill and christopher dean are legends i luv u jayne and chris

  • when i watched that.. i got goosebumps!

  • Then, when I am finished for the day, I am so tired I can't, even pray, For, someone to save me, from this fate, and take me from this life, that I hate, So I will be, set free from all of this, drudgery. Yet, I don't even know, How I go on.
  • play bolero and sing theses words to it..

Its the second act in the "Sara-the musical"

The setting is a small sewting room with 4 people, and the main character in this act (Vicky) is singing about how terrible her life is..

    it goes...

    Years,

I've been sitting here in this little room,

    mending clothing everyday

for people who dont know or care,

just how I work my fingers to the bone

    for so little reward,

  • Are you sure its Ravel's bolero? There are a lot of boleros out there. I can't find anything about this musical. Any lyrics would have been added by the writer of the musical so they wouldn't be official lyrics.

  • Greetings all...

Have you ever heard the words to Bolero?

  • didnt think there was any?

  • Simply stunning!

  • i bet they HATE this song now, made em pretty rich though (along with the scating of course)

  • They've said in interviews that there was a time when they thought "oh no, not bolero again" but i think as they've matured they've grown to appreciate it again.

  • When they were on millionaire, jayne admitted that she had it as a ring tone for when Chris rings her

  • absoulutly unbelievably amazing.

words just cant describe them two

  • Torvill and Dean make me proud to be British!

  • I am a Brit too and feel the same way, they are fantastic.....

  • my god, i wish i was torvil....... if only to be able to move like that - especially alongside dean. He is one sexy fella - and this is one sexy routine. They move like one person! Breath-taking....

  • mesmerising... breathtaking... I well up every time. It's such a beautiful, beautiful dance. Definite love story

  • there dancing this on sunday

  • of course its a new routine!! If you hadnt noticed they are slightly older than they were at the Olympics lol!

They are not as agile as they once were..they even say it themselevs in interviews now.

    But they are AMAZING!!

  • Wow Amazing, Chris Is Quite Fit Too *Guilty Pleasure,Embarrased FaceAsIAmOnly13!* Lol x :)

  • I agree!! And I'm 19! @.@

  • It was good in '06 as it was in 1984! Truly AWESOME!!

  • It was a different routine you know.

  • Bolero is without a doubt the best skating routine I have ever seen. It is incredible. Well done Torvill and Dean for creating it. BRILL!

  • AMAZINN

  • you know they sing a song together? cinderella&rockerfella ;P

  • i do know, they even have an album which is hilarious although cinderella rockerfella is my favourite.

  • i love them they are quite old but they are still doing well with the skating and bolero is one of the best skating routines i have ever seen !!

  • yeah they are amazing. They may be on the older side but they are still the best skaters ever. They're performances on DoI are just as good and entertaining as the ones they did when they were younger.

  • It's also a much smaller ice rink don't forget, absolutely fabulous, great as always!

  • they probbly cut it because they couldnt doo it anymore dont forget this was 25 years ago..

  • Still totally amazing skaters after all these years. Makes me want to go straight to the ice rink! Thanks Jayne & Chris x0x

  • i also agree with dizzytiggy :]

  • shes 51 and hes 50

  • Perfection =D

  • the first time they ever performed it was simply breath taking, and this version may not have been as epic as it was cut short, but still you just cant take your eyes of them, they are truly amazing people. Absoloutley amazing.

  • It would have been lovely to have seen this performance on the show tonight with it being the anniversery of the olympic win - would have been a very special moment :o)

  • Dean does look hot. even if he is old enough to be my dad

  • 100% agree with you!

  • It's a pitty that, probably due to sheduling by ITV, the full routeen wasn't done. Still if I'm half as flexable as they are when I'm in my 50s I will be very happy

  • im 18 and i think hes way better looking now than back then... how old is he now?

  • i think he's 50? or 51. im 18 and when he was younger he was nowhere NEAR as hot as he is now. seriously, the man is beautiful.

  • Woah,,, epic much?

  • Incredible sports to give it all another go, i know they cut it short, but fantastic to see it performed by them again!

  • chris dean is hot

  • ohmygod no, he is so much hotter now than he was back in the day! when he was younger he was cute, now he's hotttt!

  • Agreed :P x

  • God yes Chris Dean is hot. I don't care if he's over twice my age there's just something about him that's amazing. So very sexy. Hehe.

  • i think 'allanmichaelbrankin' is right. any1 hu thinkz that was rubbish should try it. there's would be absolte crap!

  • Omg I love these to

i think that they are really amazing

and this dance wil be going on forever:)xxx

  • Its a much shorter version from the original that won them gold. Still love that knee lock bit though, beautiful.

  • that was AMAZING!!!!.....22 years later....a little bit more out of breath but they can stlll perform it as amazing as they did the first time......THEY ARE TRULY LEGENDS.

  • 25 years actually....and yeh, i agree, they'll always be legends!

  • 25 years now but 22 years when they performed this version!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's not a farce. You can't expect the celebrities to be amazing skaters, they are just beginners. It's just a light-hearted entertainment show. Stop being so serious

  • i agree

  • What asswhole decided to do the lighting, at the most important part at 2.50, the routine was drowned out by the lighting

  • i wonder do they find it easier to skate or walk?!?!?!

  • probably skating lol

  • I think Jane looks great!! She hasn't aged that much if she can still skate like that! What an awesome routine.

  • Christopher hasn't aged at all, and Jane has aged like a horse. I call it the 'Richard & Judy effect'.

  • lol

  • that's horrible! she's still really pretty, and chris has aged, but he's aged hotter, so it's fine. :)

  • small changes, and the music was so improperly disrupted but still...

    amazing...

    real talent

  • 25 years later and this is still incredible

  • slight changes, but still great ^_^

  • It's nice to know that 20+ years later, they still have IT!

  • Don't forget that the rink they're performing on is only about a quarter the size of a normal rink. They couldn't possibly have fitted the full dance on even if they were capable of doing it all those years later.

  • Well almost 25 years later I'm amazed they do as well as they do. I was there in 1984 to witness the best all time ice dancing...and what else was the USA ice hockey lest we forget.

  • Bolero is the title of the orchestral, one movement piece by Ravel. The dance is just a dance performed TO Bolero.

  • after all those years, torvill and dean still have the moves

  • its just magic when they perform this!!!!! i love them both - this was the best of the 3 i think!!! im so glad they came back to do dancing on ice cos i wern born wen they performed this the first time-so to see them do it again - just AMAZING!!!

  • Great performance, particularly because of their age. It would have been awesome for them to do the their Olympic winning LP, but honestly how could they? I actually clicked on this thinking, "Could they really still do it?" I must admit I was a bit disappointed when I saw it couldn't, but then I was like not even Torvill/Dean can stop the effects of age. I'm 16 and I couldn't even do half of THIS routine. It's great just seeing them on the ice again. They should have won gold in 1994 too!

  • i love these two..best skaters by far! plus they are older since they did bolero..it is just as good as the original!!

  • anyone sayin that its not the same anymore or its not the bolero cos its not the same THESE GUYS CREATED THE BOLERO THAT GOT EM FAMOUS i think they if anyone can change it and there 50 they cant do the lifts they could when they were in their 30's!

  • I completely agree with you, well said!!!!

  • This is one of the best and fave skating routines. Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are amazing. The first bits and the end bits are the same, but in the middle they have their own style.

  • i only recognieed the first bits lol ,, even still .. im not seying they should be exact but it shouldnt be this different

  • How stupid talking about it like its the same dance.

  • This is NOT trhe same dance at all, I have compared it with the original, there are a couple of the sames steps, thats all.

  • Of course its not exactly the same - they are 22 years older and this is 3mins shorter than the Olympics and you have to realise that no two versions of the bolero are the same - the one they performed in Europeans was not the same as the one they performed in the Olympics and that was not the same that they performed in Worlds which was not the same as the countless versions they performed in their tours. The essence of bolero is still there and it is still as mesmerising.

  • IM NOT SAYIN THAT IT IS TH3 SAM3 ROUNTIN3 B3FOR3 U THINK I AM SAYING THAT BUT HOW CAN TH3Y R3M3MBA 3V3RY ST3P OF THAT ROUTIN3S AFT3R 22Y3ARS AND MOR3 NOW! TH3Y DO HUNDR3DS MOR3 ROUTIN3S AND TH3Y DO TH3M ALL P3RF3CT TH3Y N3V3R FORG3T A ST3P!! TH3Y'R3 AMAZING! WISH I COULD DO WHAT TH3Y DO AND G3T A GLD M3DAL FOR IT! lol ;)

    TH3Y AR3 BRILLIANT!!

    W3LL DON3 JAYN3 AND CHRIS!

    T3RRIANN x

  • NO, NO, NO, not you, I don't mean you, I mean Philip and Holly and everyone on the show talking about the dance like its the same, it may have as well have been a different dance, only the music is the same and that is a different version, its faster for a start, its like wow, I've been waiting 25 years to see that again, no its a different dance, they should do the same one really.

  • The contestants have to do their own dance using a few moves from the original, you could say that theirs is "The Bolero" in that case.

  • The bolero is the name of the music, not the choreography, so this is "the bolero"

  • if u watch the DOI series 2 dvd u'll hear christopher dean say as long as you start on your knees and end on the floor its the bolero and that anything in between is your own interpretation of the music. i dont remember reading anywhere that the bolero stays the same. and oh yeah, they're coming up to 50, they can hardly do they same lifts as they could then can they?

  • obviously using similar lifts and stuff inbetween but u cnt expect every version to be the same can you? and anyway, no matter what sequence of moves they do it still has an air about it that should send shivers down ur spine.

  • obv they wanna make it as good as torvill and deans original

  • this was amazing on the night . but wouldnt it be good if fern britton could host the show with phil it would b a lauf then

  • makes me proud to be british =D

i think its great how they've stayed fit and are able to do wot they love as well as entertain millions

all the times chris pushed jayne and made her cry really paid off :)

    go torvill and dean!!
