the grizzly man took way too much acid in southern california and obviously developed some sort of permanent psychosis that caused him to believe that human and bears could live symbiotically.......predation is a bitch....
People have said they should leave Treadwell alone cause this is what he wanted , I don't think this is really what he wanted ... he seemed like a nice guy but if pple don't learn a lesson from his death and think he was just choosing a different path you are dumb!
Mr. Treadwell was a nice guy IMO. A little bit naive when it came to our other animal friends! Yes, they do bite :( As he found out to his cost. I'll always remember him playing with the foxes :)
Treadwell loved nature, he knew he was putting himself in harm's way. People die playing sports, but you respect it because they know the risk and they die doing what they love. I think he did a lot of good with his time on earth. He was a bit off, but who of us really wants to be normal? RIP.
Im not trying to put down anyone else's idea. For me this song has always been about how our relationship with the world just changes along with time.
I suppose alot of people saw this on the Grizzly Man Program; I don't believe he chose the right way to get back in touch with his coyotes, but, i suppose he had to try; We all do things other people can't understand, the northern parts of this continent are unforgiving.
just saw the documentary about the grizzly man ... what a weird man after all ... but if he wanted it, let him be ... i'm no one who has the right to judge his will ... after all this is a nice song :)
Hopefully the coyotes will always be around. There have been bounties on them for decades, their habitat constantly shrinks but they always adapt. They're almost the ghosts the of the old days. The trickster archetype of the Native Americans, they still haunt our peripherals.
Actually Coyotes and black bears are among the few predatory animals whose range has increased with the European settlement of North America. Humans have driven out the apex predators like Grizzly bear and timber wolves with which the coyotes and black bear had to compete.
Yup. Those demned ole coyotes are still here...in Florida. They serenade us late at night...after they slink away from the ole hen house. 'Tween them and the 'coons, and 'possums, Granny's chickens are about all gone.
i dont usually listen to country, but this is a pretty epic song. there definitely wouldve been a generation that saw the end of the wild west and the beginning of modernization across the country.. it brought alot of good things, but it had to have been a rough transition for many who were used to a way of life.
@xcalibur9874 these modern things are not sustainable. the indigenous peoples way of life was one of the last sustainable ways. and yes it was rough they were terrorized murdered and forced to subjugate themselves all for some greedy mans desires.over all NOGOOD
I can see the connection between this song and the essential elements of a lot of McCarthy's fiction. The dissolution of the "old west", it's values, and the modernization of America....and also this song and Cormac's books are awesome!
What a wonderful song. Ashamed to say that Don Edwards is a new one on me. I'm off to Amazon for an impulse purchase. Oooyip-ooo-yipooo - they don't write 'em like that anymore. Keep 'er between the hedges, Don!
That's very cool. By all accounts Mr. Edwards is a stand up guy. Let us know how it goes. What does he think about this song being associated with Mr. Treadwell?
She said the interview went well and he was what you would expect a cowboy poet to be, a really nice guy. I'm not sure if she asked about Treadwell, but I'll find out.
@borncountry1992 and he was a draft dodger! even Elvis didn't doge the draft. Don Edwards is the real deal,I am mostly into hardcore, the heaviest metal and some of the most whacked out stuff imaginable but this guy is awesome. You can feel every word he sings and that's what counts.

Heard this for the first time the other day while watching an Animal Planet bit on Grizzly Man. Now, I can't stop listening to it. Beautiful. If it suits the tone, I think it'd be an awesome addition to the Jonah Hex flick next year.
A real spiritual song. And sung with depth of true feeling. A fitting tribute to Tim Treadwell's TV documentary. Tim wasn't just plain lucky to have survived the grizzlies for so long. He lived amongst them for 13 summers ( 12yrs ?) That's not luck that's sheer guts and understanding based on his love for them.

Yeah man, i watched the documentary on more 4 - it actually had me gripped and i have so much respect for Treadwell, something very refreshing about his love for the bears.

It was an old and very hungry desperate bear that killed Tim and Amy. He was due to hibernate for the winter. A freak incident. If Tim was here now I don't think he would hold any grudges against it.
I think your right but that was a meating ground for all bears old and new and the bear that killed tim and his poor wife was a wonderer that acted on pure instinked and i dont think tim new him.but i dont think thay shuld have killed the bear tim wuld have agred. That is reincarnation in its treu self.
Ha ha no sir, I'm not happy. Everybody needs a purpose and Treadwell found his. Perhaps what may seem like madness to us is real sanity, for isn't life just to be happy and if he's the happiest man mad than he's the sanest man to live!
