I was deployed then, it's a joke to you now. You spend a few months off the coast of Korea and Japan during that situation and talk to me. No fun. I can tell you that.
Twenty-eight years later and the psychopaths in governments are still playing their war games using us as the collateral damage; the 'cannon fodder' if you will. People need to live on this earth together without the threat of nuclear power plants cracking open with earthquakes or blowing up through some cooling problem; terrorism from some 'bad guys' and of course the launching of nuclear missiles. Let us work at removing the 'threats' to our happiness; I want us all to enjoy our being here.
Very few will believe me when I say this but I was one of the men out on Able Archer. I was attached and deployed with the 1/81 Field Artillery out of Willey Barracks Neu Ulm Germany 1981-1984 I am now 51 years old. When I watch this video it is so un-nerving as I can remember all that was happening like it was yeasterday.
@TheProjektcc You can now rejoice because he won the game. I wouldn't know what have happened if the Soviets wouldn't have had their crises.
He is popular because he won the bet. He took on the Soviets while it was weak and those before him were no weak characters: they simply had no choice.
@TheProjektcc : Insane? He drove the despotic soviet regime to it's knees... Sure, he gambled, but sometimes that's necessary to achieve a decent result. I'm sure you're enjoying your present life? Certainly a lot more than you would the life in a gulag...
@Extraneus73 the Soviets collapsed mate. not destroyed by Reagan. He just totally provoked the old guys @ the Kremlin that it came to the extent that it was only a push-button away from destroying the whole world.
@UseUrHead503 Yes, they collapsed... And why do you think they collapsed? Because of the hard-line policy of Reagan (or his staff, to be precise). Chances are the state controlled Soviet planned economy would have collapsed eventually, but Reagan forced them to overstretch themselves trying to keep up in the arms race, thus advancing the collapse and freeing the russian people from despotism and the world from the threat of nuclear destruction decades before it might otherwise have happened.
@Extraneus73 There's more people in American prison right now than in the Gulag's during Stalin's height in paranoia. And the Gulag's were merely a carry over of the Czar regime that routinely used live ammunition on protesters during World War 1.
@youmustbethatninja So you don't see any difference between imprisonment people for crimes like robbery or murder as opposed to merely having a different opinion? And what does it matter that the concept of concentration camps existed during the rule of the tzars? Is that supposed to make it alright to keep up the practice? And what is the point of noting that the tzars didn't worry much about the lives of their subjects? All in all, your comment has absolutely no relevance to the subject...
this is insane stuff, i didn't realized that in 1983 was the year of the close encounter of a Nuclear War!! glad it never happened or we wouldn't be here today, let's work together and make sure it never happens in future generations. peace and love to everyone!! and thanks for the upload. :]

The ICBMs that where detected where no computer errors, Reagan wanted to show the Soviet-Union he meant business.

@Fridaey13txhOktober What stopped him?

He wanted to be threatening, not start war just then, alternatively the ICBMs where disabled.
