I love Eucalypt, man its like the best wood to burn.we dont get eucalypt her in the pacific northwest,so when i went down to cali for family i brought back a truck and trailer load.i went through 1 1/2 cords the whole winter like 6 moths i burned almost all day for a 2500 square foot home.
I have heared that Eucalypt grows in a lot of places in california, so it's true. You are right it is good fire wood. My dad used to love IRONBARK (type of eucalypt) for fire wood. It burns astonishingly hot but you have have to be careful not to use it too much because it can burn out the fire box in your wood heater!!!!!!!
One further comment, isn't it a prick of a wood to split with an axe. You have to hit it in just the right spot and mega hard so your axe head doesn't jam.
I take it from that you agree..It's mega hard, a splitter is definitely the doorway to progress with this stuff. Unless you have ARMS LIKE A RUSSIAN BOMB THROWER. Or are some kind or sadist
HAhah yes man agree 200% i tried to split one of the rounds that had no knots with a splitting maul and i broke the handle when i hit it.lol so i had to take the splitter and split the head out.haha
For those of you not from Australia, this guy is right .EUCALYPT (also known as gum) is AS HARD AS AN IRISH BARE KNUCKLE BOXER. Cool trick with the bottle. Might try that myself. Well done!!!
Sorry I took so long to get back to you. Eucalypt is a pig of a wood to work. Hense no fine furniture is made from it. 1 It's extreemly hard. 2 It splits and warps excessively as it dries which can be frustrating if you have spent hours achieving the desired shape. On the upside though, it does have a beautiful grain and does have it's uses,But, No good for woodworking, I had a look at your channel and was very impressed with your skill. Keep up the good work!!!!!
Thanks for the comment MrMagoo. I did not realized this type of wood is this troublesome to work with. We don't have Eucalypt here, Oak is the hardest I've worked with, and that type of wood also warps and cracks a lot. So Eucalypt is even worse.. A solution might be to let it crack and warp first, see what usable parts are left, and then process it. Thx for your comments on my vids! :)
A brand new chain on a very hard wood dulls faster then uncle Jim with gas, i'm serious, not even one cut and your pretty much dull. You gotta break in a new chain, temper it then sharpen it
I thought the 044 would blow thru that wood faster. Looks like a bottle of Stella Artois or Becks beer! ;) Good to see you wearing chaps and a helmet for the video.
Awesome, I want a Stihl so bad!

chevyapache1959 2 years ago
it's hard enough on chains cutting australian hardwood, but opening a bottle of beer is just likely to blunten the chain.
It only take a micro second to blunten a saw blade. And in australia there are already enough hazards like nails in the ground
