This has to be one of the most powerful songs ever! It's magical, all the elements of the song from the guitar notes to Vedder's melodies just transport me into another world....called heaven! :D
One of the most beautiful songs ever written...by a man so infused with Spirit he might just be a little like Jesus, as he sings his whole soul to us, he, incandescent, plaintive, raw, with God in every breath, shows us the depths to which Love can transmute anger and loss...and cradle us home as we rise...
Come on now. Comparing Nevermind to Ten is just nonsense. Nevermind was, by Kurt's own admittance, nothing more than Top 10 Bubble Gum rock. Eddie Vedder actually put his life into Ten. Makes a huge difference.
I saw PJ at the Breslin Center in East Lansing in the late 90's. They opened the show with this. Who has the gonads to open a show with a slow song. Pearl Jam has the 'Nads
I will ride the wave...WHERE IT TAKES MEEEEEE!!! Glad there are others that think this song is a masterpiece. It's one of those songs you remember the first time you heard it...

Can't believe he wrote this so young and it's still means something to me, music is timeless and peal jam is a CLASSIC rock band. they were one of the main culprits in my obsession with music. still rockin, beautifully. They need to be acknowledged as one of the greatest rock band up next to Led Zeppelin. rock is rare these days, good rock anyways.
A Larger Than Life Performance. Imagine the pain you have to have inside to be able to sing it like THAT. There's the reason why he's still around today in the music world. Passion and heart.
Will try again - 1st time I saw this video, there was an opening in which Ed turned to each of the other 3 [Matt, Stone & Jeff] as if asking to be let off from singing the song, It was very effective, telling us that this song is a stressful experience for him. So i want to know why the video now shows only Ed moving towards Jeff, then back to the mic
Many other vids have also had moments of tension or drama cut out. Why is that?
You will know. You're gncd, who knows everything about PJ

Hi! When you 1st posted this, Ed went from Jeff to Stone, to Matt b4 facing that he had to sing the song. Very dramatic & effective, Why has it been made less than it was?
Same has been done to other videos - .eg - Porch at the O2 in London in 2009. Ed was exhausted & could not lift mic stand. Liz came to side of stage & looked at him with great love. Then he found strength to lift & throw the mic stand. That beautiful moment has been replaced with guitar jugglng & flashing lights WHY?
I was there and i often think back at this moment. I have seen PJ many times but this was the most powerfull moment ever. Tears came to my eyes and all the people aroud me.
A moving song. Nice melody. Like the tension / resolution even though there are no minor chords in the song. Essentially he is picking a Dmajor chord, Dsus 2 and then to a B then a C during the "chorus." I listen to this song every day at least once. It kind of puts things in perspective. It's amazing how essentially a 3 chord song can be so great. Something to think about for writers. Eddie's da man!!!!
Damn this song is so strong... They opened with this song with candles backlighting them back on the VS tour and it was in my top 3 concert experiences in my life.
This video gives me chills. And makes me bawl, not sure why, but it is so moving and powerful. It has something to it that i can't put my finger on, but i love it. it reminds me why i love music so much. very refreshing.
You got it thelmaflauto, this songs made an impact in my life that is pretty much life-saving.. this band has helped me through some dark days.. this songs light is what brought me to feel the way i do now and forever.. peace~
They opened with this song in 1997 in East Lansing, Michigan. I found myself tearing up through this song, and many others through-out the entire show.

This song basicly just epitomizes life and the overwhelming pain that accompanies it, but also the deep desire and need for something greater than ourselves. I think this song is Just Ed in his most open, real broken state crying out to God. I cry and i cry out when I hear this and lift my hands to the Lord. Jesus Loves you all !~

well he could still find god, he's life would drasticle change and he's music would become greater than it already is. I believe ed will find god in the near future he seems open minded
unf.... believable i was one of the lucky ones who was present that night wat a performance by ed. Such emotion in his voice. can't get enough of this version
@enfieldcc4eva It is powerful yet I know why...but I can only apply this to my current situation...I am alive...yet my most loved have left this world...they will not leave me...and I really want to just to "ride the wave"..and LIVE my life not without their memories but without them.
September 2006, Arnhem, Holland... I was there, and as long as I live, I will never forget this opener of the concert. Might be the best performance of Release they ever did. It just consumed me, that voice of Ed gave me the chills... The concert: legendary. I was priviliged to be there at all. Pearl Jam 4 Ever!
By now I have seen hundreds of concerts from diverse bands, but this live performance of PJ was the best ever. This day was one of the finest in my whole live. After they started to play with this song, they captured my emotions immediatly and hold them captive until the end of the last note. Unforgettable, phantastic, surpassing. Thank you Pearl Jam!
I have listened to Release more than any other Pearl Jam song. To me, the "Master/Slave" hidden track was basically my definition of Pearl Jam for most of the early years.
This might be one of the best live performances of it that I've ever seen. I've heard this one before, but to see it is incredible.
