@paddlepopkid@nupthatisit wow you really don't have anything else to do.. do you? you really think someone's gonna win this "debate"??? haha... get over it.
I love Melbourne. It's great. It just needs a Hydrofoil on Port Philip Bay. That would be great...and then we could finally put the Sydney v Melbourne debate to rest. If you want to learn more check out "Hydrofoil - The Musical"
@DIANAROSS4EVER Melbourne, by far. Brisbane is a great city, don't get me wrong, but there is just so much to do in Melbourne, and Brisbane doesn't have that spark that makes Melbourne truly unique.
The multiculturalism is so vast, which is reflected in the cafés, museums, theatres and overall feeling of Melbourne. And always, there is something interesting on, like the International Comedy Festival (on right now), or Grand Prix (on last weekend) etc. It truly is a beautiful city.
@DIANAROSS4EVER ummmm as a neutral Sydneysider... being the largest, oldest and Global City in Australia... i can say that both Melbourne & Brisbane are great cities.... both have different things to offer.... i'd say Brisbane is similar sydney... the layout, its all over the place, its bright, warm, and in the mood to party.... and Melbourne is like Adelaide... its all on a massive grid, its a sophisicated city, but its very conservative... sometimes bland... internationally Syd & Brissie win
if you are a newcomer to Melbourne, aka Crimeland, here are some words of advice from the Victoria police commissioner and I quote "look as poor as you can...Don't display your iPods, don't display your valuable watch, don't display your valuable jewellery. Try to look as poor as you can to avoid being assaulted..." So if you are assaulted in Melbourne, and there's a pretty good chance you will be, it's really your fault for not looking poor.
if you are a newcomer to Melbourne, aka, Crimeland here are some words of advice from the Victoria police commissioner and I quote "look as poor as you can...Don't display your iPods, don't display your valuable watch, don't display your valuable jewellery. Please don't come to Melbourne. We are running out of water and developers have overtaken our democracy. It is becoming a very sad and desperate place. We have no real choice in government; the media run the show. Overpopulation is the number one problem, causing suffering and extinction of wildlife, high charges, homelessness and soon, hunger. Our hospitals are overwhelmed. To say Melbourne is livable is just a nostalgic fantasy.
I actually agree with you.. im not gonna lie for one minute, and say melbourne is a toilet because i love visiting melbourne, but melbournians are so driven to become bigger than Sydney, almost in a envious and ruthless way, that melbourne will start to callapse again, just like after the gold rush..! you think adding more people and overtaking syd's pop is a good think..? you need to think again..!!! its only stretching our mineral wealth and in the long run deteriorat our culture!
@paddlepopkid actually, by the way the NSW government has been trying to poach Melbourne's major events, it would appear it is Sydney jealous of Melbourne. We have a lot more to offer than a pretty harbour with a coat hanger over it
@nupthatisit I don't get the NSW government trying to "poach" melbourne of its major events.... when firstly Sydneysiders don't care much at all for AFL, so havin the final in sydney is pointless, as for the Grand Pix or wateva it is.... it wasn't the Government trying to move it up so to Sydney, it was Event Organisers, who insisted that Sydney would generate more money, being larger, and internationally renowned... and victoria isn't to talk, it spent 600million just to keep the Aussie Open
@paddlepopkid it was your Events Minister along with the NSW Premier (I'd wonder about having an American as your Premier, but anyway). Let's not also forget it is the Federal tourism dept who released a report that due to the events Melbourne has in the last financial year attracted more visitors than Sydney. Looks like NSW jealousy to me.
@nupthatisit YEA exactly... the NSW government is Literally up shit creak at the moment, as if u haven't seen the news, its curropt, thats why sydney is becoming a hell hole to live in, our governemtn is in Damage Control... no Melbourn attracted more domestic visitors, coz as a Sydneysider, we actually like admiring Melbourne, and are proud that Australia has a city thats very different, otherwise this country would be called Sydney.... as for International, there is no way, dream on
@paddlepopkid If Melbourne isn't an international city as you state, how come it's home to the head offices of many Australian corporations, not to mention the Australian stock exchange? How come it's home to one of the three of the world's largest comedy festivals, not to mention the International Arts Festival, the Fringe Festival, the Melbourne Cup (name a race in Sydney that gets a public holiday) the Australian Ballet, the Australian Centre for Moving Images, the National Gallery......etc
@nupthatisit Melbourn isn't an international city, look it up... yea melbourne is home to like you said " most of Australia's Headqauters" Sydney is home to more than 500 asia pacific regional headqauters, and 90 internationl Banks.... thats why its "International"!!! and Melbourne is isn't... plus everything Melbourne has Sydney has anyway.... sydney really doesn't care what it has and then to compared to melbourne, like your many once a year lime light events
@nupthatisit and your wrong ASX headqauters is in Sydney... so wrong again.. and Sydney has Australia's Internaionl Fashion Week. ... hahahah laugh so loud... Internaional Arts Festival..???? which one does melbourne have... the only one i know is the ~Sydney Festivale~, which is the largest arts festival in Australia, Look it up.. as for the ballet and moving images Sydney has NIDA. the National Institue of Dramatic Art.. which is every the only one in Australia.
@paddlepopkid ah, wrong, the ASX is in King St Melbourne. Fashion Week, woohoo. Fashion Week is across both Melbourne and Sydney. The Melbourne International Arts Festival is the largest arts festival is held in October every year over a 5 week period. According to the Wikipedia the Sydney Festival has 50 events - the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this year had over 250 events, and is rated with Montreal and Edinburgh as one of the big 3 in the world. NIDA competes with VCA and WAPA
@nupthatisit which ASX are you talking about..? its headqauters are in Sydney..? are you quite okay..??? your very wrong confused about many things... seriously you need to look things up properly...and not in a baised Victorian way... this is a pointless debate, coz Sydney is simply all that... it seems Melburne is the city thats wants it all, Sydney's the City that does have it all. btw NIDA doesn't compete with whateva VCA or WAPA is.. NIDA Sydney competes RADA London...
@nupthatisit yes, the vic premeire spent 600million just to keep it there until at last 2030 besides... didn't Victoria Government "poach" Adelaide of the Grand Pix & Tennis Open...? they were once upon a time in Adelaide....and just to finish up Sydney is not just a pretty habour and bridge.... I think Melbournians just like to convince themselves thats all thats in Sydney... i mean, thats just like saying all Paris is, is a glass of wine and the Effiel Tower.. which is far from the truth
@paddlepopkid Grand Prix wasn't going to remain in Adelaide any longer after 1996, Eccleston had stated that. So no, it wasn't poached, it was ensured the event would stay in Australia. And excuse me, Australian Open poached? Who from? It's been held in Melbourne since the first Australian Open in 1905. And you're right, Sydney isn't just a pretty harbour and bridge, there's the cliched Opera House. Other than that, the subway stinks of mould, the roads are all one way, Oh, wait, a monorail!
@nupthatisit well i don't care about what Government wants to "poach" other governments of major events, fact is... Melbourne suffers an idenity Crisis, because no matter how hard it tries to overtake Sydney... it just never will.... melbourne is like the little brother screaming" hey hey look at me, im the bigger, im the better, i can do things just as good" but Sydney is Australia's Glamour City, and its only Alpha Global city, that competes with London, New York, Singapore, Shanghai not Melb
@nupthatisit oooo Wow... OUCH!!! Sydney is just an Opera House & Bridge, and oh wait monorail... can i ask you something, have you been to Sydney..? coz many Melbournians who come to Sydney, end up saying "wow IT actually is better" and mind you, "better city" isn't a sydney thing to say..! we don't believe in "Better" its just a fact, that Sydney is Global, which means it has everything melbourne has to offer, plus alot more... hence why its a global city. believe me i wish it weren't
@paddlepopkid several times since 1988, and unlike your mere 4 days in the CBD of Melbourne, I've stayed with family friends in several suburbs of Sydney, such as Bondi Junction, Castle Hill, Parramatta, Newtown, Darlinghurst. And frankly, each time I've been, I haven't enjoyed it, I found it quite pretentious. I mean, it's a nice place to visit, but frankly there are too many people over there with a superiority complex...trains were terrible and expensive, CBD claustrophobic, place just grotty
@nupthatisit well i hate to sound arrogant and have that superior complex your talking about... but do you Blame Sydneysiders.... we have the most expanise houses in the Country.... like small 3bd house in Western Sydney 50km away from the City cost almost 700,000 now... and a house within 10km of the city between 1million and 3million and on the Habour itself will lets so not many Aussies even live on the habour anymore... its all international Millionaires with 8.7 million dollar apartments
@paddlepopkid if Sydney has the most expensive houses then frankly all the fool for you, I wouldn't buy a house there! And yes, what you're saying here is exactly the pretentiousness I refer to. I'm very active in the fringe arts scene where arts is accessible to all. That gives a city soul. And that is exactly what Melbourne has. The fact that millionaires own Sydney and you're proud of that says it all. Give me soul any day, my friend.
@nupthatisit im not proud of it... infact many of us ordinary aussie's living in Sydney are very unhappy with our government, who won't even allow an election to go ahead... and the only reason our houses are so expensive, is because so many people are moving to sydney, but there isn't enough houses, thanks the state governements restrictions.. its unfair, because people who bought their homes in the 60's and 70's for next to nothing in Sydney's Outter areas, can sell it for almost 600% profit
@nupthatisit As for the so called ARTS Scene & Soul how does Melbourn have a " better one" Australia's Fashion Week is in Sydney... the largest ART festival is Sydeny Festivale. the largest live Music Festivale Big Day Out (Sydney's one) and everything in Dramatic Arts is in Sydney... as for Soul... everything melbourn has to offer, is only in the CBD, Docklands and Southbank.... what soul is that... Sydney has more diversity and its arts spead out..! again thats why its the global city.
@paddlepopkid as someone actually involved in the arts industry, I can honestly say you know very little. Sydney Festival is actually smaller than Melbourne's and Sydney Festival is not as international as Melbourne. VCA and WAPA (which is in Perth) is as internationally renouned as NIDA is. To say everything Melbourne has to offer is in the CBD shows you know nothing - you clearly haven't seen Brunswick, Fitzroy, Northcote, North Melbourne, Thornbury, South Yarra, St Kilda, Richmond, etc etc
@nupthatisit ummm and what makes you thing im not a student of art... Melbourne just labels itself international festival.. like how lame.. melbourne tries and calls itself the food and drink capital, the sport capital, the garden capital, the arts capital... i mean you's actually give yourself these labels, without doing the research, just coz yous suffer an idenity crisis... i mean which city in the world says they are the capital of this and that.. face it already
@paddlepopkid if you're a student of art, then I guess you must be failing your degree. As well as an arts practitioner I'm also an arts educator. Clearly the arts courses in Sydney is giving a very blinkered view of the arts scene in Australia. For your information, the festivals in Melbourne are called international because they attract international artists. How lame.
@nupthatisit OMG please... no whats lame, is Melbourne's government trying to label every concert or festivale " international" when it clearly is only Australian... Sydney (which actually does have Australia's biggest concerts and festivales... apart from sporting ones) actually is International... only thing is it doesn't have to an inferior complex... it just says SYDNEY.. coz Sydney is so Sydney... its only my 2nd year.. im doing great.! anyway im off to watch FIFA's opening match
@paddlepopkid My personal experience has been working on Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Melbourne Underground Film Festival, Melbourne International Puppet Carnival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, New Wave Festival, Big West Festival, Melbourne Cabaret Festival, and I was also a stage manager at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Commonwealth Games at the MCG (the largest stadium in the southern hemisphere, might I add)
@nupthatisit hahahahaha HOW Lame... no your totally right i haven't herd of any of these... and bet most people haven't... infact no-one around the world even knows of Melbourne... thats why its government tries to give it the "International" at the end... when guess what... all these festivales your saying... Sydney has them too except we don't call it International ... we jus say SYDNEY (yea bitch) like Sydney Film Festival.. MCG... plz tell me whats so good about it? no ANZ Sydney 110,000
@paddlepopkid you bet, do you? How much do you want to bet? One of your flash Sydney apartments? LOL. Sydney ANZ Stadium had a capacity of that for the Sydney Olympics, but after the games, the two temporary wings were dismantled - the ground now has a capacity of 75,000. Seems I know more about Sydney than you do Melbourne. Thanks for confirming my long held beliefs of the arrogance of your city folk.
@nupthatisit OMG please please please your so kiding yourself babes... and the word your looking for ignorant.. not arrogant... but i can say im neither... i bet wikipedia isn't helping your education.... ummm coz everything your saying is simplying coming from Wikipedia... like all your debate points are straight from wikipedia... now that is lame... and its actually 83,500 or something, not 75000 but seriously melbourne prides itself on the MCG so muchhhh???? i really don't see whats so good?
@paddlepopkid oh, so you're admitting your ignorant rather than arrogant? You're possibly right. But then I'd say Sydneysiders are both :) And no, sorry to disappoint you, not using Wikipedia. I've actually failed students for using Wikipedia for their research, as it is easily altered by anyone. For example Wikipedia claims the sydney festival, with 50 events, is Australia's largest festival, when we know the Comedy Festival with 250+ events can claim that :)
@nupthatisit your the one who claimed Wikipedia says this and that and that i should look it up there.... so your contridicting yourself.... and it doesn't go by the amount of events... it goes by PARTICIPATION, which in Sydney's case is higher in all concerts and festivales than melbourne.... no i said your dumb, because in an earlier comment you said arrogant, which i know the correct word u needed to use was ignorant..!
@paddlepopkid i quoted it because i knew it was incorrect and I proved it wrong. Irony. Look it up. Same as look up what the world's largest natural harbour is, because believe me, it's not Sydney Harbour. And again, participation, wrong. Australia Council has confirmed this, but of course, you don't want to believe that because you haven't heard of Australia Council
@nupthatisit Im annoying..? speak for yourself... with all your false statements about melbourne having this and that "bigger and better" than Sydney... which it isn't... any government can label its concerts and festivales as big and international... but really melbourn's arnt... how can melbourne have a strong art scene than sydney.. when melbourne is known for being concervative and supposely sophisicated which don't go hand-in-hand... and you just convince yourself all we have is a bridge
@paddlepopkid they're not false statements, they're reseached and cited. You claimed the Australian Open was poached when Melbourne has hosted it since 1905. You claim the ANZ Stadium is bigger than the MCG. You claimed the festivals in Sydney are bigger than the ones in Melbourne. You claimed NIDA has no competition in Australia. You claimed to be an art student, with no knowledge of the arts scene in Australia. And you claimed you're not ignorant or arrogant
@nupthatisit i don't claim to be an art student... i am, how would u know... i dnt need to prove myself with the likes of you.. just like you claim your a art director..!! Just face it... bite the bullet mate... SYDNEY IS ALL THAT... its the Global city, wheather melbourne poached the tennis open from adeliade i couldn't care less.... like WOW MCG is the largest staduim... woooo-hoooo big gold medal, pay for tickets, when half the people still watch the plasma's because its an oval stadiums
@paddlepopkid you said before "how do you know I'm not an art student". So if you're not, then yes, you're a bullshit artist. I never claimed to be an art director, I am an arts practitioner, being an actor, photographer and events organiser in community arts, as well as high school teacher of photography, drama, media and multimedia, currently doing a masters in arts education. and believe me when I say for artists there are more opportunities here than in Sydney, especially in community arts
@nupthatisit OMG no need to get agressive and call me names... just because you know you got the rough end of the stick...! and that being, living in the second best city... me asking... how do u know if im NOT an art student..?" (because you said im not), doesn't imply anything...! well stay in your Melbourne... im not pleding with you to move anywhere... infact i couldn't care less
@paddlepopkid Melbourne has not been conservative since the early 1900s. What's conservative anyway? Conservative means to conserve traditional values, politically. Historically, there have always been more Liberal voters (the conservative party) in NSW than in Victoria. Victoria is the only state who voted yes to the republic referendum in 1999. Doesn't sound conservative to me. Melbourne is far from conservative, spend some time here you would know that. But I don't believe you've been
@paddlepopkid oh, and the festivals you claim have had "international" branded to them are not run by the government. They receive funding but they are not administered by the government. They are all independent, with independent boards of directors. Looks like another myth of yours blown out the window.
@nupthatisit yea properly a board of directors that are run by melbourians born and breed.. who suffer an identity crisis because they have lived in the second best, yes thats right second best city....find anyway to try and compete with its tall blonde, beautifful sister in the north....... like everything melbourne either builds or does, has its origins to Sydney... from the historical buildings that where first in sydney, to a lame arch bridge across the yarra n that gnarly fed sqaure
@nupthatisit or the patheticness of Melbourne when there's another protest infront of New Delhi Parilment House with 25,000 people protesting against Melbourne and all the conservative & racist people living there...
@paddlepopkid oooo wait... there's an Indian walking across the road, lets go roll him, because he must be rich, and Melbourne being GANGLAND and like Crime & Homincide Capital of Australia.... and like how come whenever a crime show or movie is filmed in Melbourne, it actually fits really well, its like melbourne has this gritty feel to it, and like when they do it in Sydney it just doesn't work... maybe Sydney is too beautiful and expensive for housing commision scum.. or drug lords
@paddlepopkid the patheticness of Sydney when there is an actual race riot involving bogans wearing flags over their shoulders, or the riots in Redfern because the police chased a young Aboriginal boy to the point that he accidentally impaled himself on a fence that he died....the patheticness of a Sydneyside who has to use an event in India perpetuated by the Indian media because Indians in Australia are bashing other Indians
@paddlepopkid as an example - Melbourne International Comedy Festival - started by a group of comedians headed by Brian McCarthy with the support of British comedian Peter Cook, director today is Susan Proven. MIFF - started in 1956 by a group of independent film makers. Melbourne International Puppet Carnival - started by John Paxinos who runs his own private business. Melbourne International Arts Festival, was started by the government but became independent, and was originally called Spoleto
@nupthatisit ummm we don't.... Im a Sydneysider... and i don't care to much about it.... im not a millionaire.... i don't own a house on the Habour... but its famous because it was built during the World Great Depression in 1932, and it was the largest steel arch brige in the world at the time, it crosses the largest natural habour in the world.. and it was the first man made icon of australia.. plus it helped our country in the depression... and its the centre of cultural events like NYE
@paddlepopkid yeh, right, like every image you see of Sydney is of that damn bridge. all the fireworks is from the bridge. the bridge, the bridge, the bridge. It's all we ever see. And frankly, hate to tell you, nothing special. A lot of things were built during the depression, and more importantly, since the depression. And Darwin Harbour is 5 times the size of Sydney Harbour. Look it up
@nupthatisit why do you guys only see the BRIDGE..... see thats where sydney tourism goes wrong... and thats why fellow Melbournians think thats all sydney is about is a brige and opera. but little do they know, everything melbourne has to offer, Sydney does too (except for the one day lime light of the race cup and tennis open) and the Bridge is special, because it was built for a purpose like everything in sydney... unlike melbourne who only builds thigns to compete with its so called rival
@paddlepopkid we only see the bridge, because it's all that's there. Believe me, I've looked. I attempted to check out the arts scene in Sydney and found it to either be elitist or inaccessible, or just plain non-existent. Sydney has had 3 failed attempts at a comedy festival, I went one year, found not a single tourist bureau who knew a thing about it. This is back in about 1999
@paddlepopkid oh, and the MIFF is considerably larger than they Sydney Film Festival. Last year MIFF received 190,000 submissions, according to the Australia Council, and increased its audience base since 1996 by 230%, which is the largest expansion of any cultural event in Australia, and is rated Australia's most critically acclaimed festival
@nupthatisit i mean thats why the MCG will lose its argument to host the 2018 Australia World Cup.. apart from it being Round which totally sux... but if you put a sqaure field in it.... whose gonna pay for FIFA tickets in the MCG to sit more than 100meters away from the game which will be about half the staduim... i dunnoo this is it what it said in the Newspaper the other day... and this was coming from melbournians who addmitted MCG seats way to many people, who end up watching the plasmas
@paddlepopkid again, who cares. If Australia loses the world cup it has nothing to do with the MCG, which, I might add, has attracted the largest crowd for soccer anywhere in the country as it's the only 100,000 seat stadium in the country. Personally I don't want the world cup in Australia, not if it interrupts the local codes' competitions.
@nupthatisit you see thats a typical melbournian... "not if it interrupts the local codes" AFL is mostly a melbourne thing... whats so great about it..? I want FIFA to come to Australia..... once Australia has hosted FIFA WORLD CUP... which is actually bigger than the olypmics... Australia can say it has hosted every major event world wide, apart winter olympics, which it can never, because we don't get enought snow on mountains for alps... and no with a soccer field MCG isn't 100,000 seats
@paddlepopkid AFL is mostly a Melbourne thing, even though there are teams in every state except Tasmania. And home and away rounds get double the crowds of home and away games in NRL and ten times the home and away crowds of soccer. If either NRL or soccer regularly get 70,000-90,000 to a single home and away game like AFL gets then you may have an argument. At the moment you don't. Australia played Greece at MCG to a crowd of 95,000, so close to capacity crowds there happen.
@nupthatisit yeaa because Sydneysiders are to busy and to broke to waste money on watch a lame AFL or NRL game, we have better things to spend our money on, when u can watch it on TV... thats how lame melbournians are,,, and like no AFL is melbourne thing... like even the so called Sydeny Swans... its not even a sydney afl team, its a melbourne team, that moved to sydney to try and spread the code..!
@paddlepopkid and according to the MCG website, the largest soccer crowd at the MCG was 104,000 during the 1956 Olympics. Largest Australian Rules crowd was the 1970 Grand Final, being 132,000, largest home and away Australian Rules crowd was the Round 9 clash between Melbourne and Collingwood, being 121,000
@nupthatisit where do you get these points... like melbourns film festival... more important than Sydney's and more critically acclaimed...? everything you say is far from truth... i swear... i rekon Melbourne has a separate wikipedia from the rest of Australia.... like it calls itself the capital of this and that, it says has all the international festivales, id like to know what else melbourne claims about itself, and yea your probaly right.. Australia will lose to England for the bid
@paddlepopkid I doubt you've heard of any of those events, like a true Sydneysider, you have very little awareness of what goes on outside your own backyard
@nupthatisit hahahaha and in saying im watching the opening match... im also rubbing in your jealous melbournian mind... that SYDNEY is the only INTERNATIONAL FIFA city in Australia, (with only 6 worldwide) and again, it doesn't label itself internationl... it just labels itself Sydney Fifa seat australia... and if guess anothing thing to rubb your nose in... If australia' host 2018 fifa it will have the opening and closing match!! sorry my fellow little australia city...
@paddlepopkid well, apart from the world cup, if we get it (which I doubt - England has a far greater chance than Australia, as it is a soccer nation, we're not) soccer just doesn't attract the crowds in Australia like cricket, AFL or NRL attracts. So big deal, nothing to be jealous about. You're happy about that, you have it *shrug*
continued... you have only need to compare sydney and melbourne in ast 200 years.... melbourne may once again, over take sydney's population and stature for a few decades but then fall like it did after the 1800's goldrush... melbournians need to face, sydney will always be the "big shinny city of Oz" but melbourne needs to keep its place as a culture pot of australia!
I would say it's Melbourne's best city. Sydney is more like LA, while Melbourne is more like Boston or Chicago. Melbourne has far more culture than Sydney does. That's not saying that Sydney isn't great, because it is. I just prefer Melbourne. Moved here from Perth 13 years ago. Love it.
I totally agree with you..!! but if people were to compare similarities.. they should compare Oz cities to European cities, as we have stronger ties to europe than america... and why do melbournian's say sydney is like LA ... when firstly you probaly haven't been to either city, and secondly i have, LA is nothing nothing like sydney.
@nupthatisit well... I'v been to Melbourne and before traveling to Melbourne for the first time, i had no idea, such a so-called Rivalry existed between two, so i think the rivalry comes mostly from Melbourne, and yea, being a Sydneysider, in the heart of melbourne for 4nights... many many of you try and say Sydeny is LA and Melbourne is New York... when whilst melbourn might suffer an idenity crisis... Sydney is actually so Sydney, we neva compare our city to likes of any other city in world
@paddlepopkid you're full of shit. As I've said, I've lived in Melbourne my entire life, and have never heard any such comparison. But I do remember when I was in Sydney, a woman who worked in the Opera House said "the difference between Melbourne and Sydney is that if you say to someone 'You must come round for a coffee', Melburnians are insulted if you don't turn up, and Sydneysiders are insulted if you do". She implied is that even though she was from Sydney, she thought it was pretentious.
@nupthatisit HAHAHA..... omg thats so 100% true... omg im full pissing myself in laughter with a red face.... i guess, we don't see ourselves and compare to other cities... well maybe you should wait a minute, what does this actually say about a large city..? we are too busy, and our week is already too full doing many things... plus like why should I spend money on entertaining them, when I have a fricken house to pay off, which cost more than other house in Oz, and i wanna b alone on a beach
Its been proven that this "Global Warming" causes more earthquakes since the increase in temperature levels causing plates to move from their dormant form
hmm yes, and lol apparently this 'global warming' also causes an increase in antarctic pack ice.
(news 23 April, 2009)
Anyway, the plates still take millions of years to move. and even if the plates did move, wouldn't Sydney simply move with the plates because it is slap bang in the middle of one?
I prefer Sydney to live, but melbourne is excellent for holidays. I don't get the fighting between residents of Sydney and Melbourne though.... my mother hates people from Melbourne. LOL.. and Melbourne has Wicked The Musical right now so it is awesomeness. [:
Ya mum hates people from Melbourne cos she's a typical suburban idiot with half a brain. Why would she 'hate'? We're all aussies at the end of the day ;-)
Here is my 2 bobs worth, as I just returned from another visit to Melbourne. Adelaide is extremely well laid out and a great place to live. Melbourne is a bit messy in comparison, bigger and more spaced out. Sydney is the most fun place to be, but often regarded a place where people don't want to live (mainly due to its size, expense and traffic).
doesnt matter wat city is good, does it? its the city that u call home that is the best.. to u that is.. anyways i dont care. that blonde girl is cute haha
at least i aint some Russian ass licking piece of shit...id rather be a jew than a fucking Russian actually id rather be a donkeys left nut that a piece of shit Russian
they are fags like you the only reason you hate melbourne is because RUSSIA IS A SHIT HOLE COUNTRY and Melbourne is one of the best places in the world and deep down you wish u were here insted of your asshole of a country
Nothing but a racist bogan. You really show how you're decendants of CONVICTS!! fucking idiots. Australia is nothing but a dry piece of shit, Moscow is top 10 melbourne is not even in top 50 best cities.
moscow what the fuck is that is that some shithole city that russian has......who goes to fucking russia for a holiday no one because its a shithole piece of crap that no one wants to go to
Of course you wouldn't know you dumb bogan faggot. Moscow is the richest city on earth, only millionaires go there. You know what, I'm gona be visiting Melbourne in 2 weeks, wanna take me on in real life?
Does anyone know the song? And shit ad.

Which one is better? Melbourne or Brisbane? I've heard that are the best cities in Australia
DIANAROSS4EVER 1 year ago
@DIANAROSS4EVER Melbourne, by far. Brisbane is a great city, don't get me wrong, but there is just so much to do in Melbourne, and Brisbane doesn't have that spark that makes Melbourne truly unique.
The multiculturalism is so vast, which is reflected in the cafés, museums, theatres and overall feeling of Melbourne. And always, there is something interesting on, like the International Comedy Festival (on right now), or Grand Prix (on last weekend) etc. It truly is a beautiful city.
alexc3895 1 year ago

I actually agree with you.. im not gonna lie for one minute, and say melbourne is a toilet because i love visiting melbourne, but melbournians are so driven to become bigger than Sydney, almost in a envious and ruthless way, that melbourne will start to callapse again, just like after the gold rush..! you think adding more people and overtaking syd's pop is a good think..? you need to think again..!!! its only stretching our mineral wealth and in the long run deteriorat our culture!
paddlepopkid 2 years ago
@paddlepopkid actually, by the way the NSW government has been trying to poach Melbourne's major events, it would appear it is Sydney jealous of Melbourne. We have a lot more to offer than a pretty harbour with a coat hanger over it
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit I don't get the NSW government trying to "poach" melbourne of its major events.... when firstly Sydneysiders don't care much at all for AFL, so havin the final in sydney is pointless, as for the Grand Pix or wateva it is.... it wasn't the Government trying to move it up so to Sydney, it was Event Organisers, who insisted that Sydney would generate more money, being larger, and internationally renowned... and victoria isn't to talk, it spent 600million just to keep the Aussie Open
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid it was your Events Minister along with the NSW Premier (I'd wonder about having an American as your Premier, but anyway). Let's not also forget it is the Federal tourism dept who released a report that due to the events Melbourne has in the last financial year attracted more visitors than Sydney. Looks like NSW jealousy to me.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit YEA exactly... the NSW government is Literally up shit creak at the moment, as if u haven't seen the news, its curropt, thats why sydney is becoming a hell hole to live in, our governemtn is in Damage Control... no Melbourn attracted more domestic visitors, coz as a Sydneysider, we actually like admiring Melbourne, and are proud that Australia has a city thats very different, otherwise this country would be called Sydney.... as for International, there is no way, dream on
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid If Melbourne isn't an international city as you state, how come it's home to the head offices of many Australian corporations, not to mention the Australian stock exchange? How come it's home to one of the three of the world's largest comedy festivals, not to mention the International Arts Festival, the Fringe Festival, the Melbourne Cup (name a race in Sydney that gets a public holiday) the Australian Ballet, the Australian Centre for Moving Images, the National Gallery......etc
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit Melbourn isn't an international city, look it up... yea melbourne is home to like you said " most of Australia's Headqauters" Sydney is home to more than 500 asia pacific regional headqauters, and 90 internationl Banks.... thats why its "International"!!! and Melbourne is isn't... plus everything Melbourne has Sydney has anyway.... sydney really doesn't care what it has and then to compared to melbourne, like your many once a year lime light events
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@nupthatisit and your wrong ASX headqauters is in Sydney... so wrong again.. and Sydney has Australia's Internaionl Fashion Week. ... hahahah laugh so loud... Internaional Arts Festival..???? which one does melbourne have... the only one i know is the ~Sydney Festivale~, which is the largest arts festival in Australia, Look it up.. as for the ballet and moving images Sydney has NIDA. the National Institue of Dramatic Art.. which is every the only one in Australia.
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid ah, wrong, the ASX is in King St Melbourne. Fashion Week, woohoo. Fashion Week is across both Melbourne and Sydney. The Melbourne International Arts Festival is the largest arts festival is held in October every year over a 5 week period. According to the Wikipedia the Sydney Festival has 50 events - the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this year had over 250 events, and is rated with Montreal and Edinburgh as one of the big 3 in the world. NIDA competes with VCA and WAPA
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit which ASX are you talking about..? its headqauters are in Sydney..? are you quite okay..??? your very wrong confused about many things... seriously you need to look things up properly...and not in a baised Victorian way... this is a pointless debate, coz Sydney is simply all that... it seems Melburne is the city thats wants it all, Sydney's the City that does have it all. btw NIDA doesn't compete with whateva VCA or WAPA is.. NIDA Sydney competes RADA London...
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@nupthatisit yes, the vic premeire spent 600million just to keep it there until at last 2030 besides... didn't Victoria Government "poach" Adelaide of the Grand Pix & Tennis Open...? they were once upon a time in Adelaide....and just to finish up Sydney is not just a pretty habour and bridge.... I think Melbournians just like to convince themselves thats all thats in Sydney... i mean, thats just like saying all Paris is, is a glass of wine and the Effiel Tower.. which is far from the truth
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid Grand Prix wasn't going to remain in Adelaide any longer after 1996, Eccleston had stated that. So no, it wasn't poached, it was ensured the event would stay in Australia. And excuse me, Australian Open poached? Who from? It's been held in Melbourne since the first Australian Open in 1905. And you're right, Sydney isn't just a pretty harbour and bridge, there's the cliched Opera House. Other than that, the subway stinks of mould, the roads are all one way, Oh, wait, a monorail!
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit well i don't care about what Government wants to "poach" other governments of major events, fact is... Melbourne suffers an idenity Crisis, because no matter how hard it tries to overtake Sydney... it just never will.... melbourne is like the little brother screaming" hey hey look at me, im the bigger, im the better, i can do things just as good" but Sydney is Australia's Glamour City, and its only Alpha Global city, that competes with London, New York, Singapore, Shanghai not Melb
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@nupthatisit oooo Wow... OUCH!!! Sydney is just an Opera House & Bridge, and oh wait monorail... can i ask you something, have you been to Sydney..? coz many Melbournians who come to Sydney, end up saying "wow IT actually is better" and mind you, "better city" isn't a sydney thing to say..! we don't believe in "Better" its just a fact, that Sydney is Global, which means it has everything melbourne has to offer, plus alot more... hence why its a global city. believe me i wish it weren't
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid several times since 1988, and unlike your mere 4 days in the CBD of Melbourne, I've stayed with family friends in several suburbs of Sydney, such as Bondi Junction, Castle Hill, Parramatta, Newtown, Darlinghurst. And frankly, each time I've been, I haven't enjoyed it, I found it quite pretentious. I mean, it's a nice place to visit, but frankly there are too many people over there with a superiority complex...trains were terrible and expensive, CBD claustrophobic, place just grotty
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit well i hate to sound arrogant and have that superior complex your talking about... but do you Blame Sydneysiders.... we have the most expanise houses in the Country.... like small 3bd house in Western Sydney 50km away from the City cost almost 700,000 now... and a house within 10km of the city between 1million and 3million and on the Habour itself will lets so not many Aussies even live on the habour anymore... its all international Millionaires with 8.7 million dollar apartments
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid if Sydney has the most expensive houses then frankly all the fool for you, I wouldn't buy a house there! And yes, what you're saying here is exactly the pretentiousness I refer to. I'm very active in the fringe arts scene where arts is accessible to all. That gives a city soul. And that is exactly what Melbourne has. The fact that millionaires own Sydney and you're proud of that says it all. Give me soul any day, my friend.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit im not proud of it... infact many of us ordinary aussie's living in Sydney are very unhappy with our government, who won't even allow an election to go ahead... and the only reason our houses are so expensive, is because so many people are moving to sydney, but there isn't enough houses, thanks the state governements restrictions.. its unfair, because people who bought their homes in the 60's and 70's for next to nothing in Sydney's Outter areas, can sell it for almost 600% profit
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@nupthatisit As for the so called ARTS Scene & Soul how does Melbourn have a " better one" Australia's Fashion Week is in Sydney... the largest ART festival is Sydeny Festivale. the largest live Music Festivale Big Day Out (Sydney's one) and everything in Dramatic Arts is in Sydney... as for Soul... everything melbourn has to offer, is only in the CBD, Docklands and Southbank.... what soul is that... Sydney has more diversity and its arts spead out..! again thats why its the global city.
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid as someone actually involved in the arts industry, I can honestly say you know very little. Sydney Festival is actually smaller than Melbourne's and Sydney Festival is not as international as Melbourne. VCA and WAPA (which is in Perth) is as internationally renouned as NIDA is. To say everything Melbourne has to offer is in the CBD shows you know nothing - you clearly haven't seen Brunswick, Fitzroy, Northcote, North Melbourne, Thornbury, South Yarra, St Kilda, Richmond, etc etc
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit ummm and what makes you thing im not a student of art... Melbourne just labels itself international festival.. like how lame.. melbourne tries and calls itself the food and drink capital, the sport capital, the garden capital, the arts capital... i mean you's actually give yourself these labels, without doing the research, just coz yous suffer an idenity crisis... i mean which city in the world says they are the capital of this and that.. face it already
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid if you're a student of art, then I guess you must be failing your degree. As well as an arts practitioner I'm also an arts educator. Clearly the arts courses in Sydney is giving a very blinkered view of the arts scene in Australia. For your information, the festivals in Melbourne are called international because they attract international artists. How lame.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit OMG please... no whats lame, is Melbourne's government trying to label every concert or festivale " international" when it clearly is only Australian... Sydney (which actually does have Australia's biggest concerts and festivales... apart from sporting ones) actually is International... only thing is it doesn't have to an inferior complex... it just says SYDNEY.. coz Sydney is so Sydney... its only my 2nd year.. im doing great.! anyway im off to watch FIFA's opening match
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid My personal experience has been working on Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Melbourne Underground Film Festival, Melbourne International Puppet Carnival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, New Wave Festival, Big West Festival, Melbourne Cabaret Festival, and I was also a stage manager at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Commonwealth Games at the MCG (the largest stadium in the southern hemisphere, might I add)
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit hahahahaha HOW Lame... no your totally right i haven't herd of any of these... and bet most people haven't... infact no-one around the world even knows of Melbourne... thats why its government tries to give it the "International" at the end... when guess what... all these festivales your saying... Sydney has them too except we don't call it International ... we jus say SYDNEY (yea bitch) like Sydney Film Festival.. MCG... plz tell me whats so good about it? no ANZ Sydney 110,000
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid you bet, do you? How much do you want to bet? One of your flash Sydney apartments? LOL. Sydney ANZ Stadium had a capacity of that for the Sydney Olympics, but after the games, the two temporary wings were dismantled - the ground now has a capacity of 75,000. Seems I know more about Sydney than you do Melbourne. Thanks for confirming my long held beliefs of the arrogance of your city folk.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit OMG please please please your so kiding yourself babes... and the word your looking for ignorant.. not arrogant... but i can say im neither... i bet wikipedia isn't helping your education.... ummm coz everything your saying is simplying coming from Wikipedia... like all your debate points are straight from wikipedia... now that is lame... and its actually 83,500 or something, not 75000 but seriously melbourne prides itself on the MCG so muchhhh???? i really don't see whats so good?
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid oh, so you're admitting your ignorant rather than arrogant? You're possibly right. But then I'd say Sydneysiders are both :) And no, sorry to disappoint you, not using Wikipedia. I've actually failed students for using Wikipedia for their research, as it is easily altered by anyone. For example Wikipedia claims the sydney festival, with 50 events, is Australia's largest festival, when we know the Comedy Festival with 250+ events can claim that :)
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit your the one who claimed Wikipedia says this and that and that i should look it up there.... so your contridicting yourself.... and it doesn't go by the amount of events... it goes by PARTICIPATION, which in Sydney's case is higher in all concerts and festivales than melbourne.... no i said your dumb, because in an earlier comment you said arrogant, which i know the correct word u needed to use was ignorant..!
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid i quoted it because i knew it was incorrect and I proved it wrong. Irony. Look it up. Same as look up what the world's largest natural harbour is, because believe me, it's not Sydney Harbour. And again, participation, wrong. Australia Council has confirmed this, but of course, you don't want to believe that because you haven't heard of Australia Council
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid and I say you're both arrogant as well as ignorant, and now, just plain fucking annoying.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit Im annoying..? speak for yourself... with all your false statements about melbourne having this and that "bigger and better" than Sydney... which it isn't... any government can label its concerts and festivales as big and international... but really melbourn's arnt... how can melbourne have a strong art scene than sydney.. when melbourne is known for being concervative and supposely sophisicated which don't go hand-in-hand... and you just convince yourself all we have is a bridge
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid they're not false statements, they're reseached and cited. You claimed the Australian Open was poached when Melbourne has hosted it since 1905. You claim the ANZ Stadium is bigger than the MCG. You claimed the festivals in Sydney are bigger than the ones in Melbourne. You claimed NIDA has no competition in Australia. You claimed to be an art student, with no knowledge of the arts scene in Australia. And you claimed you're not ignorant or arrogant
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit i don't claim to be an art student... i am, how would u know... i dnt need to prove myself with the likes of you.. just like you claim your a art director..!! Just face it... bite the bullet mate... SYDNEY IS ALL THAT... its the Global city, wheather melbourne poached the tennis open from adeliade i couldn't care less.... like WOW MCG is the largest staduim... woooo-hoooo big gold medal, pay for tickets, when half the people still watch the plasma's because its an oval stadiums
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid you said before "how do you know I'm not an art student". So if you're not, then yes, you're a bullshit artist. I never claimed to be an art director, I am an arts practitioner, being an actor, photographer and events organiser in community arts, as well as high school teacher of photography, drama, media and multimedia, currently doing a masters in arts education. and believe me when I say for artists there are more opportunities here than in Sydney, especially in community arts
nupthatisit 1 year ago

nupthatisit 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid Melbourne has not been conservative since the early 1900s. What's conservative anyway? Conservative means to conserve traditional values, politically. Historically, there have always been more Liberal voters (the conservative party) in NSW than in Victoria. Victoria is the only state who voted yes to the republic referendum in 1999. Doesn't sound conservative to me. Melbourne is far from conservative, spend some time here you would know that. But I don't believe you've been
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid oh, and the festivals you claim have had "international" branded to them are not run by the government. They receive funding but they are not administered by the government. They are all independent, with independent boards of directors. Looks like another myth of yours blown out the window.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit yea properly a board of directors that are run by melbourians born and breed.. who suffer an identity crisis because they have lived in the second best, yes thats right second best city....find anyway to try and compete with its tall blonde, beautifful sister in the north....... like everything melbourne either builds or does, has its origins to Sydney... from the historical buildings that where first in sydney, to a lame arch bridge across the yarra n that gnarly fed sqaure
paddlepopkid 1 year ago

@paddlepopkid oooo wait... there's an Indian walking across the road, lets go roll him, because he must be rich, and Melbourne being GANGLAND and like Crime & Homincide Capital of Australia.... and like how come whenever a crime show or movie is filmed in Melbourne, it actually fits really well, its like melbourne has this gritty feel to it, and like when they do it in Sydney it just doesn't work... maybe Sydney is too beautiful and expensive for housing commision scum.. or drug lords
paddlepopkid 1 year ago

@paddlepopkid the patheticness of Sydney when there is an actual race riot involving bogans wearing flags over their shoulders, or the riots in Redfern because the police chased a young Aboriginal boy to the point that he accidentally impaled himself on a fence that he died....the patheticness of a Sydneyside who has to use an event in India perpetuated by the Indian media because Indians in Australia are bashing other Indians
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid as an example - Melbourne International Comedy Festival - started by a group of comedians headed by Brian McCarthy with the support of British comedian Peter Cook, director today is Susan Proven. MIFF - started in 1956 by a group of independent film makers. Melbourne International Puppet Carnival - started by John Paxinos who runs his own private business. Melbourne International Arts Festival, was started by the government but became independent, and was originally called Spoleto
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid People pride on the MCG because it's the biggest. Derr. Now, will you please tell me why Sydney prides itself on that bloody bridge?
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit ummm we don't.... Im a Sydneysider... and i don't care to much about it.... im not a millionaire.... i don't own a house on the Habour... but its famous because it was built during the World Great Depression in 1932, and it was the largest steel arch brige in the world at the time, it crosses the largest natural habour in the world.. and it was the first man made icon of australia.. plus it helped our country in the depression... and its the centre of cultural events like NYE
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid yeh, right, like every image you see of Sydney is of that damn bridge. all the fireworks is from the bridge. the bridge, the bridge, the bridge. It's all we ever see. And frankly, hate to tell you, nothing special. A lot of things were built during the depression, and more importantly, since the depression. And Darwin Harbour is 5 times the size of Sydney Harbour. Look it up
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit why do you guys only see the BRIDGE..... see thats where sydney tourism goes wrong... and thats why fellow Melbournians think thats all sydney is about is a brige and opera. but little do they know, everything melbourne has to offer, Sydney does too (except for the one day lime light of the race cup and tennis open) and the Bridge is special, because it was built for a purpose like everything in sydney... unlike melbourne who only builds thigns to compete with its so called rival
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid we only see the bridge, because it's all that's there. Believe me, I've looked. I attempted to check out the arts scene in Sydney and found it to either be elitist or inaccessible, or just plain non-existent. Sydney has had 3 failed attempts at a comedy festival, I went one year, found not a single tourist bureau who knew a thing about it. This is back in about 1999
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid oh, and the MIFF is considerably larger than they Sydney Film Festival. Last year MIFF received 190,000 submissions, according to the Australia Council, and increased its audience base since 1996 by 230%, which is the largest expansion of any cultural event in Australia, and is rated Australia's most critically acclaimed festival
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit i mean thats why the MCG will lose its argument to host the 2018 Australia World Cup.. apart from it being Round which totally sux... but if you put a sqaure field in it.... whose gonna pay for FIFA tickets in the MCG to sit more than 100meters away from the game which will be about half the staduim... i dunnoo this is it what it said in the Newspaper the other day... and this was coming from melbournians who addmitted MCG seats way to many people, who end up watching the plasmas
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid again, who cares. If Australia loses the world cup it has nothing to do with the MCG, which, I might add, has attracted the largest crowd for soccer anywhere in the country as it's the only 100,000 seat stadium in the country. Personally I don't want the world cup in Australia, not if it interrupts the local codes' competitions.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit you see thats a typical melbournian... "not if it interrupts the local codes" AFL is mostly a melbourne thing... whats so great about it..? I want FIFA to come to Australia..... once Australia has hosted FIFA WORLD CUP... which is actually bigger than the olypmics... Australia can say it has hosted every major event world wide, apart winter olympics, which it can never, because we don't get enought snow on mountains for alps... and no with a soccer field MCG isn't 100,000 seats
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid AFL is mostly a Melbourne thing, even though there are teams in every state except Tasmania. And home and away rounds get double the crowds of home and away games in NRL and ten times the home and away crowds of soccer. If either NRL or soccer regularly get 70,000-90,000 to a single home and away game like AFL gets then you may have an argument. At the moment you don't. Australia played Greece at MCG to a crowd of 95,000, so close to capacity crowds there happen.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit yeaa because Sydneysiders are to busy and to broke to waste money on watch a lame AFL or NRL game, we have better things to spend our money on, when u can watch it on TV... thats how lame melbournians are,,, and like no AFL is melbourne thing... like even the so called Sydeny Swans... its not even a sydney afl team, its a melbourne team, that moved to sydney to try and spread the code..!
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid and according to the MCG website, the largest soccer crowd at the MCG was 104,000 during the 1956 Olympics. Largest Australian Rules crowd was the 1970 Grand Final, being 132,000, largest home and away Australian Rules crowd was the Round 9 clash between Melbourne and Collingwood, being 121,000
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit where do you get these points... like melbourns film festival... more important than Sydney's and more critically acclaimed...? everything you say is far from truth... i swear... i rekon Melbourne has a separate wikipedia from the rest of Australia.... like it calls itself the capital of this and that, it says has all the international festivales, id like to know what else melbourne claims about itself, and yea your probaly right.. Australia will lose to England for the bid
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid I got my research from Australia Council. I won't need to explain what that is to you, arts student and all that you claim to be.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid I doubt you've heard of any of those events, like a true Sydneysider, you have very little awareness of what goes on outside your own backyard
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit hahahaha and in saying im watching the opening match... im also rubbing in your jealous melbournian mind... that SYDNEY is the only INTERNATIONAL FIFA city in Australia, (with only 6 worldwide) and again, it doesn't label itself internationl... it just labels itself Sydney Fifa seat australia... and if guess anothing thing to rubb your nose in... If australia' host 2018 fifa it will have the opening and closing match!! sorry my fellow little australia city...
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid well, apart from the world cup, if we get it (which I doubt - England has a far greater chance than Australia, as it is a soccer nation, we're not) soccer just doesn't attract the crowds in Australia like cricket, AFL or NRL attracts. So big deal, nothing to be jealous about. You're happy about that, you have it *shrug*

@paddlepopkid OMFG woooooo OPENING MATCH FIFA WORLD CUP...... is about to start... SBS everyone!!!!!! get ready for Sydney to host it in 8 years
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
continued... you have only need to compare sydney and melbourne in ast 200 years.... melbourne may once again, over take sydney's population and stature for a few decades but then fall like it did after the 1800's goldrush... melbournians need to face, sydney will always be the "big shinny city of Oz" but melbourne needs to keep its place as a culture pot of australia!
paddlepopkid 2 years ago
I would say it's Melbourne's best city. Sydney is more like LA, while Melbourne is more like Boston or Chicago. Melbourne has far more culture than Sydney does. That's not saying that Sydney isn't great, because it is. I just prefer Melbourne. Moved here from Perth 13 years ago. Love it.
MyMediaGames 2 years ago
Sydney is nothing like LA you retard. Melbourne is nothing like Boston or Chicago. Melbourne is like Melbourne and Sydney is like Sydney.
Why do you feel the need to compare our cities with those in the USA?
This really annoys me.
iskandar1111 2 years ago 10
I totally agree with you..!! but if people were to compare similarities.. they should compare Oz cities to European cities, as we have stronger ties to europe than america... and why do melbournian's say sydney is like LA ... when firstly you probaly haven't been to either city, and secondly i have, LA is nothing nothing like sydney.
paddlepopkid 2 years ago
@paddlepopkid i have never heard a Melburnian say Sydney is like LA, and I've lived in Melbourne for nearly 40 years.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit well... I'v been to Melbourne and before traveling to Melbourne for the first time, i had no idea, such a so-called Rivalry existed between two, so i think the rivalry comes mostly from Melbourne, and yea, being a Sydneysider, in the heart of melbourne for 4nights... many many of you try and say Sydeny is LA and Melbourne is New York... when whilst melbourn might suffer an idenity crisis... Sydney is actually so Sydney, we neva compare our city to likes of any other city in world
paddlepopkid 1 year ago
@paddlepopkid you're full of shit. As I've said, I've lived in Melbourne my entire life, and have never heard any such comparison. But I do remember when I was in Sydney, a woman who worked in the Opera House said "the difference between Melbourne and Sydney is that if you say to someone 'You must come round for a coffee', Melburnians are insulted if you don't turn up, and Sydneysiders are insulted if you do". She implied is that even though she was from Sydney, she thought it was pretentious.
nupthatisit 1 year ago
@nupthatisit HAHAHA..... omg thats so 100% true... omg im full pissing myself in laughter with a red face.... i guess, we don't see ourselves and compare to other cities... well maybe you should wait a minute, what does this actually say about a large city..? we are too busy, and our week is already too full doing many things... plus like why should I spend money on entertaining them, when I have a fricken house to pay off, which cost more than other house in Oz, and i wanna b alone on a beach

@iskandar1111 Very true so annoying. Sydney is NOTHING compared to the City of Angels. L.A blows past any city in Oz.

Would you say that Melbourne is Australia's 'best' city? I'm thinking of visiting
eightwillwontcannot 2 years ago 2
I would say that it is my favourite city.
Nobody can say that it is the best city. but it certainly is very nice and you should visit.
iskandar1111 2 years ago 5

Sydney's buildings are made mostly of sand stone. It will be interesting to watch an earthquake hit Sydney. All i can say is, it wont be pretty.
Jackmyster99 2 years ago
lol, has there ever been an earthquake in Sydney?
iskandar1111 2 years ago
Well there might be in the hear future, with global warming and shit lol.
Jackmyster99 2 years ago
Global warming causes earthquakes....? hmmmm
There can never be a powerful earthquake in Sydney because its right in the middle of a tectonic place. No amount of climate change will change that.
iskandar1111 2 years ago
Its been proven that this "Global Warming" causes more earthquakes since the increase in temperature levels causing plates to move from their dormant form
2mew 2 years ago
hmm yes, and lol apparently this 'global warming' also causes an increase in antarctic pack ice.
(news 23 April, 2009)
Anyway, the plates still take millions of years to move. and even if the plates did move, wouldn't Sydney simply move with the plates because it is slap bang in the middle of one?

Sorry guys, someone had to give you the truth though

You shittin' me?
Sydney is sooo boring, there's nothing to do there.
Melbourne has the best nightlife, restarauntes, uni's, everything.
Melbourne owns.
KidsWithGuns1992 3 years ago
lol both are good, I was just shit stirring
Although I will say girls in Sydney don't dress very well compared to Melbourne or London. The girls seem a little more classy in Melbourne.

I prefer Sydney to live, but melbourne is excellent for holidays. I don't get the fighting between residents of Sydney and Melbourne though.... my mother hates people from Melbourne. LOL.. and Melbourne has Wicked The Musical right now so it is awesomeness. [:

Does it really matter which Australian city is better than the other one? * rhetorical*
2MarDunJac2 3 years ago
Here is my 2 bobs worth, as I just returned from another visit to Melbourne. Adelaide is extremely well laid out and a great place to live. Melbourne is a bit messy in comparison, bigger and more spaced out. Sydney is the most fun place to be, but often regarded a place where people don't want to live (mainly due to its size, expense and traffic).

This is such a silly ad for such a great city. I don't know who the hell thought this up.
