The song in the video is performed by my fathers band (flyer) but I believe it sounds much like a song by the buckinghams which it could be a cover of.
And, the only reason why Arial was taking off was because it was a cheaper alternative to Helvetica for Microsoft.
Couple this with the proliferation of Microsoft software and you have the stage set where Arial is used widely not because of its appeal but because it was the only choice with most people who can't make the distinction between Arial and Helvetica.
I hate Arial cos it's from copycats. I like it in some ways tho, because of its over-widespread-ness. Google and YouTube are successful examples of using Arial all over the sites to make it look constant over different platforms
Well, arial is a standardized font for the web, which is one reason why it's widespread on the web.
One benefit of arial is its ease of readability at smaller font sizes on a monitor display. It's good functionally, but it's not so great in terms of design.
In summary, if you want to make type that looks good: consider using helvetica. If you just need it to be read easily on a computer display in low resolutions or small sizes, arial might be better.
Very over-estimating Helvetica. Arial is definitely better, as it has wider coverage of Unicode :)

Arial spacing is different. When I compared both Arial & Helvetica, I was able to see a difference.

Those who didn't like this video are sure to be Arial lovers... those bastards!

Oh, if you want it to be possessive,
It's just I-T-S,
But if it's supposed to be a contraction
Then it's I-T-apostrophe-S.
Scalawag.
(although nice animation)

Microsoft introduced Ariel I do believe

Then DEATH to Ariel!! That pesky MS gets everywhere!! Bring on the Helvetica, may it rise to it's heights of beauty and purity!

Microsoft chose arial as a cheap alternative as MS didn't want to pay extra to Linotype for helvetica.
Arial is owned by Monotype.

I loss so much respect for Ariel after learning the history of Helvetica.

Not too good typography in that movie. The line setting is awful so is the rags. After all, its Helvetica ;)

They have classes for after effects? What a waste of time.
All you have to do is read the manual, play around and you've got it.
markpemble 2 years ago
Thats a pretty ignorant statement. Classes teach theory and design as well as technical.
You must not be familiar with the multimedia education system in college.
