I know why this happens:

First, start a new game, play for 131 hours, defeat the elite four 67 times, then, if you have catched 46 Pokémon and all trained exactly to level 59, you can throw your game boy right out of the window, hit it with an axe and then refix it. As no one tries it, this glitch is kind of unknown, but now everyone should know the truth.

@ajc4721 first, you make sure that whatever item you want to duplicate is the 6th item in your list. DON'T PUT AN ITEM THAT YOU CANT GET RID OF (Likes bikes or town maps).then, you go to veridian city. talk to the old man and let him teach you how to catch a pokemon. Right after thats done, fly to cinnibar island and go to the east coast of the city and surf up and down. When you find missingno run away and your 6th item will be duplicated!!

I have a ROM of Pokémon Blue on my PC that's somehow seriously messed up, and I don't even know how it happened. You can catch level 2 Mewtwo's on route 1, and level 7 Kadabra's on route 2. I now have a level 29 Mewtwo. If it attacks with ANY attack (except Disable), it KO's the Pokémon with 1 hit (except for types it's weak against). I simply have a killer-machine Pokémon, right from the beginning. And I don't even know how to use Gameshark!

@Pokemonfanzo it is. if you use the gameshark code 01XXD8CF about 80% of the time the pokemon you're trying to find shows up all glitchy. it is still 100% normal though and the sprite fixes when you catch it.
