Historically, the Chinese in California at that time would have spoken Toisanese or Cantonese. The first immigrants there were from Guangdong province - many from Toisan county.
impressive how the racist colonel with no more understanding than a cockroach has, disrupts the funeral rites for the soul of the departed. so typical of their evil, the civil war which killed more Americans than even WWII preserved America from their great evil.
I assume they are speaking Chinese during the funeral ceremony. Anyone know what dialect? Do you believe this was an authentic dialect for the period (1800s)?
Is this a typical funeral ceremony in 1800s in China? Is it much different today?
What words were spoken during the ceremony? (sounded like two words at a time).
Do you know what is written on the vertical banners?
I don't know enough Chinese yet to be able to translate that :/ I'm learning on a beginner's level, the only reason i know what Mandarin sounds like is because I listen to a lot of Chinese pop and rock music haha
I love the flashback scenes.

Figures Apollo is causing problems and romance. His blaster would help, a Viper would be really really helpful.

They should have took what money they had an opened a Chineese Food Resteraunt. or laundrymats. If that isn't stereotyping I don't know what is!

I'm almost positive it's Mandarin.
About the 1800s ceremonies, I have no clue.
