FABIAN could NOT sing....AT ALL - not even passably well. Sorry, that is the absolute truth - however, he did develop into a pretty good actor, and seemed to be a nice guy. I have to give him an A+ for Absolute Nerve to even attempt a swing number such as "All of Me" which would be fine for a Frank Sinatra or a Dean Martin but definitely could not be handled by him. I do NOT dislike him, I think he did well in movies, he just simply could not sing.

He's hardly the worst singer in the world. Those who complain about his voice and lack of talent have obviously never listened to William Hung. Having said that , however, singing this kind of standard "crooner" ballad was not his style. One thing you can say about Fabian is that he never really claimed to be a great singer. He didn't take any of it seriously. He knew his vocal range was limited. But certainly the girls weren't complaining. He's really handsome for sure.

Yes, I grew up listening to this kind of music. I listened to Frankie Avalon, Ricky Nelson, Bobby Rydel. Fabian was very popular with the teenage girls too, though he did not have the singing talent of other teen idols.

Fabian did okay for a guy who didn't want to sing in the first place and he admitted that he couldn't sing. He did it for the money to help his father who was ill at the time. The kid was only fifteen but looked twenty and, yes, almost an Elvis clone but he wasn't cashing on Elvis's fame. He was just doing something to get by. He is a better actor than he is a singer anyway. But you have to admit he did well with songs like "Tiger" and "Turn Me Loose" which have become his classic now.

I remember Fabian. Singing lessons wouldn't help the guy. He could only talk a song, but because he had Elvis like looks, the girls went crazy. Only someone with a real voice like Frank Sinatra could last beyond his youthful years. Fabian faded rather quickly as most untalented people do.

I think Fabian sang his hit records really well. He had the perfect voice and attitude for those songs. I'm not sure that singing standards like ALL OF ME was his forte (no pun intented) although I think he does fine here. Generally I think he's underrated.

I heard a long time ago that some producers had a bet that one could take any good looking guy and make him a teen idol and star. I think the bet was won, and with little or no real talent, but had the looks.

Fabian Forte was a friend of Frankie Avalon. One day; Bob Marcucci, Avalon's manager, saw Fabian sitting on the doorstep. He asked him if he could sing. Fabian said no(he was 15 at the time)! Marcucci thought: Hmmm...this kid looks like a combo of Elvis and Ricky Nelson. He told Fabian to be in the recording studio the next day. The rest is History!!! If you ever see THE IDOL MAKER movie, it's the story of Avalon & Fabian (with names changed) Joe Scibetta. I'M IN LOVE was a flop (1st record)

Fabian was specifically chosen for his looks, not his talent. He wasn't a bad singer, but he wasn't great either. Either way, he succeeded. As much as I hate to say it, Fabian is what has become commonplace today -- an entertainer chosen because of his appearance, not his talent. The only difference is that today we have the technology to make even a bad singer sound good.

Fabian was one of the least talented "singers" of the teen idol era. Surprisingly, he still draws crowds at performances.
