Records sound much better, I think, because on CD's they often remove a lot of background noise, together with a lot of sounds from the instruments... :-(
EMI usually gets rid of almost all of the surface noise- my Brahms recordings are no exception. Unfortunately, all their CD's I've heard (except for the Bayreuth 9th and Tristan und Isolde) are mired in sonic "sludge" for lack of a better word. DG, too, gets rid of most surface noise, but their releases are vastly superior to EMI's (occasional shrillness notwithstanding). Anyway, good job with this!
何度聴いても不思議な冒頭の音。どうやってこんな音出してるんだろう。

I have this recording on an EMI CD, but the sound here is quite superior. Where did you get it?

This is an old record I have digitalized myself!
