  • In the late 1960's, as a kid, I filmed a commercial for Elden Toy's Billy Blastoff. Of the money my mom let me keep, I bought Major Matt Mason toys. I had Jeff and Doug, which was mine and my brother's name. I eventually moved on to Hot Wheels and then Magnavox Odyssey came out . . . . then Atari and that was it for playing with toys.

  • @seveneighty1

Awesome story, thanks for sharing your memories. : )

  • Great stuff! Wish I'd kept up my MMM collection, loved it as a kid in the Apollo mission days....

  • @robaronin

I couldn't agree more, the best toy to come out of the 1960s. : )

  • Outstanding custom vehicles! Do you have a website that shows them and recipes to build them?

  • @Ronpur

My fan page is my yahoo major matt mason group, tons of great pictures and information there.

A link is attached to the video description in all my major matt mason videos.Come join the group. : )

  • I had several of the items shown like the lazer cannon. I had forgotten several of them till I saw your video.

  • I'm wanting to see something I had with my MMM set. I had a space station (not the one here.) It was about the size of a shoe box. It opened like a briefcase and inside were consoles and chairs for MMM to sit in, etc. One side or top was clear and blue see through plastic (a window). It was really cool. Anyone else know what I mean or remember this?

  • @OtayBW

That was the talking command console.I have a video of that too, in all it's working glory. Check my youtube channel...

  • Why doesn't Callisto need a helmet?

  • @xplund

    Good question...?

  • @TengwarElectron

Check out some of my other videos for more custom vehicles and figures in action.

Also, check out my yahoo major matt mason group too.

  • @TengwarElectron

The female astronaut is custom made.Almost half the items in the video are custom made as well.

  • I loved my major matt mason stuff ... wish I still had it. I never knew there was a female astronaut and shes a looker too :D who is she ???

Pride of my collection was a purple insect named Scorpio.... Great pics , great collection makes me want to start looking on ebay....

  • @xenbear

    Thanks : )

The female astronauts are custom made.

  • Man, this brings back good memories! Great choice of musics too. Super job!

  • @ucbf1

    Thanks : )

  • I had that toy!

  • @tickmann

    Kudos !

  • I really like this one!

  • I realy like this one!

  • @stevabus

Thanks Steve. This was the video that started it all.My oldest Son made it for me one day as a surprise.Since then, I've learned how to use the program and have been on a run away train. : )

  • A red strap Matt? You could clean up on eBay. And the silver suit? Another excellent re-paint or a Leadworks copy body? I will wait in anticipation.

  • @CaptainLazer1000

The red strap Matt is a complete repaint as well as the silver one.I found some replacement heads for the figures a few years ago at my local dollar store.

  • I won the Space Station and crawler from a Mattel and Funny Face powered drink drawing contest in the Sunday cartoon. Added to it for many years. My son has sold most of my stuff on-line. I still have the tall alien and the canon.

  • You're about the third or fourth person that I've heard off that won that Funny Face Contest as a kid. KUDOS!!!!

  • @dahsuerk wow, Funny Face drink mix powders....that shot me right back to '69 or '70.....great reference, bud!

  • Fantastic collection, and in such mint shape! My brothers and I owned most of these pieces, and played with them thoroughly until they were ruined. :-) Do you have the Space Crawler, I think it was called, with the long turning legs? Got that for my tenth birthday -- over forty years ago!

  • Check out some of my newer videos...I made a few stop-motion space crawler videos.

  • Interesting choice of music.

  • All this MMM stuff and the custom made stuff is really cool........ I had all the MMM toys when I was a kid! Good Job

  • Thanks. : )

  • Where's Jeff Long? Pretty cool. In 1966, me and a couple of neighbor kids had a sort of MMM club. We had most everything between us that Mattel made but I don't think anyone had a Jeff Long.

  • Old Jeff is spotlighted in some of my other videos, check them out...

  • Hell, I'm almost 50 and I still don't have a Jeff long in my collection. Jeeshh!

  • you do excellent work

I like make custom toys too

    I just made

    Rockem Sockem Robots custom,

    check em out

  • custom some is custom?

  • At least two dozen different customs toys made by me.

  • was there a lady mmm

you did a nice job thank you

  • No, Mattel never produced one.I custom made that one for my collection.

    Thanks again. : )

  • I was only 5 when these came out, so I only had MMM the rubber space guy, and nothing else. By the time my parents started buying me more older toys, MMM was replaced by Big Jim. I was hoping you had a video of the Space Bubble, I really wanted that one. Did you take the head off of a WWE female figure and put it on a rubber body to make the female astronaut? Also, nobody 45 years ago could possibly even concieved of a laptop, is that a make up compact?

  • I'll be making a Space Bubble video soon.

RE: Female Astronaut - you are correct, the head is from a WWE Diva figure. : )

RE: Laptop - That's an actual MMM accessories from the Space Shelter Pak...It was called a Map Case.Although you're right it does look like a laptop.

  • Awesome collection, lotsa memories there.

  • Thanks. : )

  • I love this video. I'm working on a video of my MMM toy collection and will post it as a response to this video.

  • Awesome...I'm looking forward to seeing it. : )

  • I used to have most of these toys. Won the space station from a contest in the Sunday comics. Colored in Funny Face drink cartoons.

  • Awesome! Two of my favorites... MMM and Funny Face. I must say , the Funny Face Cups are just the coolest.

  • As an 8, 9, 10 year old who had many of those toys in the 60's let me say . . . thank you!!!!

  • Excellent Job!

  • Nice Job Pete. (as usual)

  • Nice slide show. Can you give us some background on the customised vehicles. I have a small collection of MMM and these pieces are clearly not part of the set Mattel did. Interested to hear if poss please.

  • Thanks, the unfamiliar toys are custom made by me.I used MMM toys and anything else I could adapt.I also have a yahoo MMM group that has more available customs to view.

  • Cool!

  • nice vid

  • Wow, this stuff is all mint. Good job.
