People so fits this bill: 'so confident in the truth of his beliefs, he was willing to defend it" are not always to be praised and are often taken by passion rather than reason. People who blow up abortion clinics and commit suicide terror attacks share this same confidence. It would be more courage if he had stayed and debated instead of acting like a hurt child.
Personally, I admire his effrontery.Though the man was clearly out of his league, he was so confident in the truth of his beliefs, he was willing to defend it even against the likes of Richard Dawkins. So I wonder: if this layman so much believed in his position that he did not hesitate to confront a giant, why is an "educated" atheist like Dawkins avoiding debate with William Craig and Alvin Plantinga -- what is he afraid of?
@ThaShaper You weren't there. Dawkins said that he wished the guy would have stuck around, he would have liked to have heard his viewpoint and discuss it with him.
@ThaShaper I think you missed . The guy wasn't wiling to defend his belief. He just screamed and heckled. A child can do this. This can hardly be called 'a confrontation'. He would have shown any courage if indeed he had stayed and posted a question to discuss. If you saw this happening, you must have been the only one. On debating giving creationists, I also thinks real scientists should not give leverage to pseudo scientists. Debating them means they are on the same level of science. Wrong.
The enterprise of exchanging ideas does not commit one party to acknowledge the other as its equal. Rather, the appropriate arena in which to foster public understanding of any discipline is one in which most the understanding of the discipline in question belongs to one competitor, not both. When you realize that Dawkins intends to debate philosophy under the masquerade of science, you'll see your objection invalidate itself by its own standards.
@ThaShaper When you realize that you can not possibly know what other person intends, but can only project what would be your own way of doing things, you will see your protest invalidate itself by any standards.
What is it that you mean by this? That if Dawkins operates under hidden motives, I cannot apprehend those motives? And even if what I ascribe to his intention is a projection of my own mind, how does it therefore follow that the imagined intent is not in fact his? Further, what exactly has been invalidated? And by whose standards? -- surely not my own, for 1) my response was not a "protest" and 2) it said nothing as to the wrongness of Dawkins' procedures -- only that they exist.
So this is what Biology has sunk to since they outlawed stem cell research ? LOL ! Science in the USA is going to the dogs, but then so is the USA. Thanks Mr Bush, you did a wonderful job.
"You (Dawkins) are not making fun of my God in front of God." ---Protester meant to say? Ironic how the christians protect their 'all powerful' God. I doubt this guy even graduated high school. Omnipotent Yahweh just needs to send down a smiting lightning bolt. Ha Ha
I've watched a bunch of different videos with this guy (probably all spliced together to make this one), and yet I STILL have no idea what he's protesting.
The fact that Dawkins is an atheist? The fact that Dawkins opposes religion? The fact that Dawkins does these things while also being a biologist?
Or, perhaps, was he just protesting Dawkins' speech in general?
You'd think that someone with such strong convictions in heaven, god and the bible, that he wouldn't need to defend his god. The omnipotent, omnipresent, everlasting god could do that himself...
Or maybe it's just not true.... makes you wonder doesn't it.
I Love this Video and also I checked out your Channel. Very interesting! If you need any help getting this Video and your Channel exposed to were it is top in all the search I found this site called tubeviews.(net) that has took my breath away. Madly indeed, I live in Sweden and we have the "i don't believe in god but i believe in something" crowd instead (meaning that they believe in god but churches and books are scary :-| ). Oh well, at least our creationists aren't taken seriously.
Your assertion is not true. Most live their lives with the assumption that no God exists. Statistically, Sweden is around 60% atheistic, 20% agnostic (as you describe, not sure if God exist) 15% Christians and 5 % Muslims.
We should all go to churches every Sunday and mirror this exact behavior.
See what they feel like when others do unto them as they do to others.
Only go to churches that hecklers like this come from. We would have a much better type of Christian amongst us. After all you can't disprove a deity. So lets "select out" the unfit theists, the ones who never read Aquinas.
Reason "disproved" deities as far back as Epicurus in the third century BCE. The case for deities never really recovered since. Science, whether it be astronomy, biology, geology or physics only dealt it further humiliating death blows with every new discovery.
Deities now remain only as testament to the indomitable persistence of human cretinousity.
I hear we are pretty bad when it comes to how well we teach evolution. But whatever, I grew hearing about evolution and big bang in Chicago and didnt hear a word of any creationist bullshit, nor do I ever still do
Or....an after death threat LOL. What would the defense be? Heckler's attorney to Dawkin's attorney: "This can't be construed as a valid threat unless Hell exists and you can't prove that it does." Dawkins attorney: "Thank you for proving the point of my client, sir!"
I was at this show. Before the dipshit stood up, some guy yelled "Shut the fuck up" at this guy and a lady informed us that he had been saying "You'll burn in hell, you'll burn in hell" the entire show. This dude was hilarious. I wish they would have given the mic to the guy so that Dawkins could blast him with his Brain Laser.
Wow, talk about an idiot to be honest. This guy just represents the major religious base in the United States anymore, they instantly get offended the moment you even put up one question about their "cherished" religious beliefs, which have no evidence supporting them and of course, want to "shut up" the person who is throwing out the points and EVIDENCE... I am happy though that there's many smart people in OK who are against this anti-science and anti-Dawkins resolution though.
Actually the news report got the STFU part wrong. That was another audience member telling this guy to STFU, as he had been babbling the whole time and disrupting the lecture for the people around him. However, this guy did yell to Dawkins that he was going to hell.
