So this truck came from the landfill?? To me it looked like it was stuffed still!?! Isn't that one of those DiamondBack tippers too?? ;-) ;-) Great post, another 5/fav!
I'm guessing it's broken. I drove an older McNeilus REL at WM that had the same problem, except on my truck the reverse lights wouldn't come on either. I would fake it by turning on all my rear facing work lights anytime I backed up. Every time I told the mechanic's about it, they couldn't find the problem.
LOL I did have the opposite problem on a Dempter recycling truck... the reverse lights and back up alarm would NEVER turn off. Glad I wore earplugs on that route. =D
LOL good thoughts! The time of filming was around 6:30pm. So I'm guessing that this truck was in the landfill during the usual early afternoon rains -- around noon to 2pm. I just checked some of my pics and it's hard to tell where the ejection blade is, but I'm guessing that the truck isn't packed out.
LOL no, I'm pretty sure those aren't the DiamondBack tippers... I've never seen these before. The DiamondBack tippers have a pair of spring arms that these don't have (when raised).
LOL That Dempster would embarrass me if I were driving, just would want to keep moving lol :D People wouldn't be happy seeing / hearing that and it'd be annoying to everyone around lol...
Yeah, maybe he just didn't cycle the packer at the landfill (after ejecting), or did a missed stop or something...
OK, I know what you're referring to. Just kinda looked like the shape of them to me.
I just left a comment back to this... but YT decided to trash it....... that's soooo frustrating.......
Let's try this again....
That Dempster was embarrassing... I actually got stuck in traffic and a guy in a work truck stopped and asked me if I could cut the wires to that alarm... I told him "No, I'd get fired for tampering with a safety device, but I'd like to cut it." I was sad that a multi-million dollar company couldn't provide me with a "normal" sounding truck.
haha that's happened to me sooooo many times that I've gotten into the habit of Selecting All (Ctrl. + A) inside the comment box and then Copying it (Ctrl. + C) so that if YT doesn't post it, I just have to Paste (Ctrl + V) into a new comment box haha--it's especially frustrating when you write a lot (like you did)
LOL yeah, multi-mill. $ company won't even do that, bet that truck's a spare now, or maybe they got it fixed?! hahaha
I believe that on this truck there's a "high idle" switch that revs the engine so that the tipper and packer can work faster. I think that the driver didn't activate the switch, because he didn't want to risk having the tipper throw the cart. You can hear him saying something about how the cart "might come off" the tipper.
He's saying that they mix the material. Yard waste and trash at the same time. I know we did the same thing at AAA... trying to lighten up the yard waste day.
Nice video! Cool of the driver to work the truck for ya, very friendly. How old is this truck? Just looks really new being so clean and shiny, but after looking at the back and with all the squeakiness, etc I have doubts that it can be considered "new"... or am I wrong?
Actually, most of the fleet is not new. Trash Taxi has very strict rules for the condition of the trucks. They like to keep them in show condition as much as possible, unfortunately, we are in the rainy season, and they have to dump in a landfill... so it's very difficult for them to keep the trucks looking as good as they like.
If I had to guess... I'd say this truck is at least 2 years old, but it's hard to tell. I was told that if the paint starts to fade, they repaint the truck.
Not trying to challenge you Alan or give my 'more superior opinion' or something, but I was thinking about the same thing, probably an '07 MAYBE '06 at oldest looking at the chassis. Just to add my input making it a stronger possibility :D
LOL don't worry, I know I'm not a perfect person =) I appreciate all thoughts/opinions!! If I'm wrong, I'd like to know that I'm wrong... just remember I'm here to learn as much as I can about the industry.
All the thoughts and opinions make me think more about all the possible answers. Like just now, I watched the video again and noticed trim pieces missing on the front wheel wells.... which make me think that it's at least a couple years old.
I think the tipper was slow because the truck didn't have the high idle turned on. I didn't ask what they were collecting... I know that some haulers just collect everything at once. Not sure if they do that too.
I think that IHC Workstar makes the best bonnet chassis for RL applications! So I take it that this RL was on a yardwaste run! I also noticed from the other post that the other RL had a winch & kickbar! I guess they do commerical runs too! Btw, great combo with the McNeilus! As much as I'm a big RL fan, I hope they get new Loadmaster Excels! Heard they pack a shit load like the 2Rs! Great Job & 5/5!
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it. I was going to see if they could dump a RL dumpster, but those were over in a soft part of the yard. I didn't want them to get a truck stuck in the dirt just for a video.
They had the truck at a very low idle. That is why it did not have the power to make the dump. Notice the blade is also running much slower than any McNeilus usualy does...
Yeah it's slow, you can hear the driver say that the cart might "pop off" so I'm sure he was operating it at idle to prevent the cart from launching... and I appreciate that, because I know what it's like to be hit with a flying cart. :-)
Wow this company takes pride in what they do.They to me are better than Waste Management and AW.They clean there trucks everyday the trucks have great detail.Wow they are the best!!
Yeah, the drivers here seem genuinely happy! I'd agree, they have a very nice operation going on. I hope they can continue to expand without losing their minds like the bigger company's.
I bet it looks awesome! I was told that they will be getting more trucks -- I should have asked what kind... I think I was just stunned at the overwhelming friendliness of this place!
I wish this one was clean when I took pics of it... but it was going to be cleaned next... they spent most of the time that I was there cleaning the Mack LE / Heil FEL... so I know that they care for the trucks very well.
that truck looks like it is a spare. but is not.

I think thats funny how the garbage truck is called trash taxi
mrhalloweenman 1 year ago
@mrhalloweenman It's actually a great name, because people actually remember it, and that's hard to do for a garbage company.

I mean the American crews up here collect yardwaste with trash if they have it out
lawnboy1010 2 years ago
Yeah we did the same thing at AAA. If there was a bag or 2 of yard waste out... we'd just toss it in with the trash.

I'm not sure what he was collecting with this truck. I know in some places, company's just collect everything at once.
I think the IHC's and Freightliner M2's look good on rear loaders... but I think the Freightliner is a bit more reliable.

You know how much i like rear loaders and this one well, it is one of the coolest yet!
