  • we need more games and movies with ww1

  • guys try not to over analyis everything and just chill out a bit when your watching a movie. like seriously its a pretty well made scene hey

  • yeah 5:21 like zombie movie

  • lol at 5:21

  • war at it's 'best'

  • I think this is a pretty good depiction of world war 1 fighting in terms of dirty hand to hand stuff, but the ending was a bit stupid and they sampled the same German guy crying out: Nein! for about 3 different men being killed (also I've never really thought anyone would shout No! when they've been shot)

  • @BigFluffyBird Disagree, most of the fighting is silly and cinematic. Like the german soldier stabbing the main character while the pussy kid just panics, and the german doesnt even try that hard to kill main character.

  • @Pawnbroker00 I do agree that the main character (played by the writer and director) seems to be invincible and an archetypal hero (the first German he kills after saying "here we go" seemed to wait to be stabbed in the neck). However, I thought the other men fighting with knives, entrenching tools and fists was accurate for the time and I've yet to see that in another World War 1 film. Too bad this is overshadowed by the hero...

  • that ending was retarded

  • to this is reduce military dicipline

  • Finally, I'm proud to see canada wrtitten on shoulders!!!

  • 5:55 Release the Gremlin!!!

  • this is a awseome film :)

  • I'm watching this on Remembrance Day. I always think of my Great Grandfather on this day. He was at Passchendaele, Mons, Cambrai, the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Hill 70, and the Second Battle of Ypres. He survived and lived to be 102. If it weren't for him, I would not be here today. Thank you Lance Corporal Nash! You are not forgotten!

  • Making a movie comparing your grandfather to Jesus Christ seems kind of masturbatory... i lost any respect I had for paul gross. The end of this battle scene is fucking stupid. Hundred of german soldiers cant hit paul gross? Because he is Jesus christ, I guess. Thanks for making such an embarrassing movie Gross, but I guess that is a prerequisite if its gonna be a Canadian movie.

  • @Ralroost

You're actually a fucking moron man. If you paid attention you'd notice how in the beginning of the film they talk about how German soldiers crucified a canadian to a barn door, and Dunne blows this off as rumors saying that "artillery blows people into positions you couldn't imagine" hence David being thrown into what looks like a crucified position. The Germans also hit him a number of times, but were distracted by the mass amount of covering fire from the Canadians.

  • @SnakeBiteForLife An entrenched regiment cant hit a single man in the open because of covering fire from what, a platoon? Nice try, fool. And I did pay attention, but that did not stop the movie conflicting with common sense and just being plain garbage. And paul gross still did a stupid jesus scene.

  • 5:21 freaked me the fuck out

  • This shit made me want too cry at how stupid this war was.

  • WWI. Too many died for too little. My grandmother lost her first husband at Arras.

In those times, if you weren't in Blighty wearing a uniform, you could stuff a mattress with the white feathers you'd receive from the women.

What does it matter the style, content or anything about this film.

Compared to the truth, it IS only a facsimilie.

  • The WW1 was such a shitty war man, this short clip cannot even begin to comprehend it.

  • Rule Britannia! Lest We Forget.

  • It's nice to see a WWI movie like this, but it portrays the German soldiers here as morons and completely harmless. Canadian favoritism much?

  • @Truth118 hahaha as if there has never been a war film showing American favoritism..... fucking idiot

  • @bulldogEK1 What does American favoritism in war movies have to do with my comment or this video?

  • @Truth118 your a hypocrite. You cannot judge Canadian favoritism in films, when in every American war film there is significantly more American favoritism. I do not even need to give titles look at ANY.

  • @bulldogEK1 I never said that American films don't show favoritism.

  • @Truth118 It is still not your place to comment on favoritism in films.

  • @bulldogEK1 Hey, bulldog - you're fat/your parents are divorced /you had to repeat a year of school once/you have a small penis/one of your arms is longer than the other/you're left handed/you're a woman/you drink a little too much/your dad drinks a little too much/you're a republican. Probably at least two of these are true, so I guess nothing you ever say about anything can ever be valid. As a left handed republican it's not your place to say stuff.

  • @ScottMcTony nope none true btw im not american, you pathetic nerd.

  • @bulldogEK1 It is my place to give my opinion just as much as it is your place to be an insecure moron. We are both cogs in the great machine that is the internet.

  • @Truth118 bitch please. Only an ignorant yank would comment on such.

  • @bulldogEK1 Alright I will settle this. I'm Canadian and I am, myself, sincerely making the following statement: it portrays the German soldiers here as morons and completely harmless. Canadian favoritism much?

Anyway, none of my previous guesses may have been true, but I figured out something that really does legitimize any claim that you're not worthy of opinions - you're a fucking idiot.

  • @ScottMcTony Well I think that is hard to say to someone whom you know nothing about, so if anything you are an idiot for not recognizing that.

Therefore I conclude my argument with 'bitch please'

  • the main charector in this looks slightly similar to john borowman

  • They don't fight wars like this anymore

  • ☞ [iminent led]Sorry for abusing the comments[/led]

  • [iminent rb=anim]I love those comments :D[/rb]

  • [iminent=cwcVzlR59l2] EMOTICONS :DDDDDDDDDDD

  • In a good movie they wouldnt try to make the canadians look superior. When the germans attack, they dont stop to shoot, they just run. Why werent they equipt with swords, would have had the same effect...

Very good to see at the scene with the MG. They see that the machine gun is reloading, but instead of just killing them with their rifles, they keep running towards them, very realistic.

  • 5:54 - The most annoying sound since Jim Carrey's screaming at the fat guy in Dumb and Dumber.

  • Why aren't there more WW1 films? What could be more cinematic and emotional than The Great War?

  • canadian two words: FUCK YEAH

  • oo to be in the trenches with not but a bolt action, a wet tunic, the god of war tease death with days like these!!!!!

  • I wonder if anyone will ever make a film about the The Manchesters ( destroyed to virtually the last man ) who were overrun by the Germans in their last Great Offensive of WW1. I believe the Colnel was watching the Regimental Band at practice when the Germans attck went in, his words were "They are the only ones that will see this day out alive", how prophetic!

  • @LondonLawman 'Here we fight and her we die' was what Lieutenant-Colonel Elstob told his men, and they did, 16th battalion Manchester held on to the bitter end, the 17th were later sent to retake Manchester hill but suffered the same fate as their sister battalion... glad to hear someone else who knows the tale, but a another harrowing tale in a war full of them :/ We Will Remember Them.

  • Strange how apart from the preliminaries that this Battle is rather reminiscent of the Battle Scene from Henry V at Agincourt. Oh how humanity has progressed! I love a good war movie but brave men on both sides living and dying in terrible conditions. Think I would want to join the RAF, and be well behind the lines and have a nice bed to sleep in each night.

  • I actually remember seeing a British Documentary where the Germans in the field thought the Canadians were English, maybe they just thought they were a state/county of England and not a seperate country even though part of the Empire. Everything I read tells me the Canadians and Australians were the Crack troops of the Empires Army.

  • @LondonLawman we were known as stormtroopers before the end of the war even in WW@ we were feared among germans. many German POW's admitted that fighting american soldiers was easier that fighting canadians.

  • @LondonLawman I would agree that the soldiers were held high in the history books, but i do believe that you can't discount the bravery of the British themselves, the difference i think from reading many books is that where as we had hard troops we were led by idiots, where as the officers of the Canadian and Australian forces were more down to earth men, but the losses and the experiences were learned by many British Army officers and so the tactics used during WWII we're employed to save lives

  • The Yanks thought we were British, the British and French thought we were Americans. Only the Germans truly knew who the Canadians were.

  • does anyone notice that same guy keeps getting blown up at 2:06, 2:11, and 3:10

  • @FosterSniper Yes, he had a very bad day.

  • Comment removed

  • i would have prefered to be in WWII then in WWI. shit, i dont think i could take just sitting in a damn trench while mortarts were blasting around me. it was like a "take turns" type of game.. one side would attack, get smashed, retreat, wait for the other side to come. once they did, same thing. got smashed, retreated, etc.. over and over.. forget that

  • i like how 2:17 OH look theyre in the middle of reloading the machine gun the biggest immediate threat to us , do we

    A. use our rifles to kill the loader or machine gunner to keep them from using it and capture the position?

    B. toss a grenade at the position to make them abandon the position or

    C. run mindlessly towards them giving them ample time to reload so they can mow us down while we try to get into Bayonette range? um... lets go with C. guns and grenades are for cowards!

  • Canadians, Good movie

  • @Sevv921 No, you're not.

  • Oh no here the krauts eh

  • i hate how in every movie the germans are so expendable.

  • @bougabouga

    Why?

The German High Command thought they were.

  • 5:20 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • @blobman2000 I felt bad for laughing but it is pretty funny...

  • these were real men

  • Nice movie, but just unrealistic no single canadian gets killed in hand to hand combat theres nothing like a total superiority in close combat

  • 1:15 ''Eh Tabarnack...'' We can clearly see who are the Quebecers in there. :P

  • war doesnt look so bad....

    ee, just jokes

  • @MADD180

He doesn't look mad to me bro, motherfucker is cool as a cucumber.

  • LOL 3:09

  • IS this WW1??

  • @Tw98R yup.

  • Thats crazy artillery fire when ur men are charging? Theres more chance of them blowingup than the enemy

  • @songsmade2 It starts in-front of your own positions and then creeps forward around walking pace; as iZOMBEEZ said, its for cover. It provides a moving wall of explosions.

  • The kid at 4:14 is obviously one of the characters from All's Quiet On The Western Front

  • @somedude221 Oh shit youre right dude!

  • Canadians wrecked in hand to hand combat

  • press the 1911 button

    ..................LOL

  • a few rounhouse kicks and the whole american macho cliche would have been complete in great fashion.

i only hope the script writer was on LSD when came up with that cross bullshit

  • @ElephantRage Canadian these troops are Canadians

  • @ElephantRage They're Canadian.

  • @ElephantRage They're Canadians, not Americans.

  • 5:12 a such moron would never be let going to the army he nearly let his buddy die just because he didnt hav the nuts to Pull the trigger.

An now your probaly thinking "Man you wouldnt be hard enaugh to kill someone to" Well i have been to the army and pulling a trigger of a rifle pointed at someone is easier than writing a comment here you dont think in battle, you think afterwards

  • @JSLegoMaster keep playing with your lego kid.

  • Oh is that your best piece of argumentation?

Btw I animate with legos and id like to met you in rl and see what a gib mouth little fag you really are.

  • @JSLegoMaster this isnt an argumentation , theres nothing to argue about here. I find it hard to believe that you (apparently an adult that has had experience in war , if not war the army at least) find pleasure in cute little lego animations.

  • Why is it hard to belive?

Hell in the army every soliders has hobbies and one migth be more strange than another and your hobbs doesnt say andthing about your phyisical condition, inteligence or behaviour when in action. I have not been into war (thank god) but im doing my army service now and here we dont even care what people' hobbies are when we do excercises seems to me that you dont know mny soliders

  • @JSLegoMaster "such moron would never be let going to the army" - WWI - I think either side for as many men as they could get. s a following note there is a lot of discussion over Human's natural aversion to killing. There is a great body of evidence from the Napoleonic Wars right up to and including WWI indicating that soldiers deliberately aimed high.

  • the reason the musketiers fired over the heads was that the weapons were extremley innacurate.

Wel how can it be then that in ww2 inculding the chine japanese war nearly 80 million people died if you say most humans cant kill

  • @JSLegoMaster According to British Lieutenant George Roupell, the only way he could get his men to stop firing into the air was by drawing his sword, walking down the trench, "beating [them] on the backside and ... telling them to fire low". The majority of these men are not deliberately missing but subconsciously aiming high to avoid killing, the possibility of their own deaths not factoring into the equation.

  • @JSLegoMaster Modern training methods have found ways to cancel out this subconscious thought process by separating the killing from the aiming and firing of the rifle, making it just another task where precision is required; like tying a shoelace.

  • have you ever played cal of duty? Well i guess so and the US millitary uses that game on their recruiting centers. It sounds verid but killing is as easy as a video game, pull the trigger nothing more. just pull. a little movement of your finger, done.

  • @JSLegoMaster you couldn't be more wrong and on multiple counts. First off, they would have let him in. Thanks to conscription every male above the age of 16 was shipped off to fight. Also, not its not. Its really REALLY not. Everybody is different, and will some people would pull the trigger, some people would not. Everyone i know who has served and went to war told me that the second time you fire a rifle is crippling, simply because you know what will do, it will kill, brutally.

  • I am doing my army service now, and if the enemy comes noone would hasitate to kill noone.

  • @JSLegoMaster well i am so happy for you that you are willing to take a promising young life simply because some politician told you to

  • I hate this movie, so dam unrealistic in close combat there are like 50 german getting killed and 2 canadians hand to hand, typical the side the movie is wiewing from is best over human in close combat,

  • Arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded

  • @LnTPrdctns loll, that is soo true :p

  • God, all this arguing is bullshit. Canada and the USA are possibly the closest allies of any two countries in the world. and the arguing about USA vs. Europe is also pretty dumb, America also helped to liberate many countries in ww2. I don't see why everyone has to be such dicks to eachother...

  • 5:54-6:22 RELEASE THE GREMLIN!

  • Sorry if this has already been answered but with the whole crucifixion thing, the Germans in the scene were just as shocked by what happened as the Canadians. I agree it was just brilliantly coincidental he got blown into that position, and the barbed wire being in the weird position was probably just a filmmaker trick to excuse the fact that he's stuck to the wood very firmly (stuck on the wire).

  • War = insanity on a mass scale.

  • @Halo4Lyf to continue you really think europe russia and canada wouldnt win against america russia europe and canada are very advanced in technology russia has 20million men in reserve and 26.000 tanks and dont forget their nukes

and europe and russia both have a very long military history and modern well trained armies america allways thinks they are the best at evrything and allways force other countries to think the same as they do and call it freedom thats it from my opinion

  • @75eler I'm saying that Russia wouldn't gain from defending Canada, therefore they wouldn't attempt it. Russia is not known for altruism in their foreign policy. Europe might want to defend Canada, but they're be utterly incapable of doing so, short of throwing every nuke they had in the French and UK arsenals at us. EUFOR has *zero* in the way of military sea or airlift. They couldn't get their troops to Canada in the first place.

We're not the best at everything. We're just better than you.

  • @Halo4Lyf europe IS capable of sea and airlifting personnel and materiel abroad we HAVE lpds air craft carriers

helicopter carriers and airplanes also europes armies are advanced sophisticated and modern and 461 milion people in the EU and a huge variety of weapons airplanes and materiel and i know russia would not help a western country but i just meant when russia and canada had an alliance and i dont think america is better than us at what in the first place?

  • @75eler Everything that matters.

  • @Halo4Lyf the only thing you are better at is being fascist and ignorant and making people afraid with your nukes to force them to believe in your crappy way of freedom and capitalism the other thing you are better at is having the most criminals both in prison and in the country the third thing you are better at is being arrogant and hurting innocent people and the fourth thing being arrogant thats it

  • @Halo4Lyf the only thing you are better at is being fascist and ignorant and making people afraid with your nukes to force them to believe in your crappy way of freedom and capitalism the other thing you are better at is having the most criminals both in prison and in the country the third thing you are better at is being arrogant and hurting innocent people thats it

  • @75eler It's cute watching you people impotently flail about and bang your tiny fists upon your high chairs.

  • @Halo4Lyf its weird to see you being arrogant and trying to insult people because you cant say anything usefull anymore

  • @75eler Yeah, sure, if that's what you think is going on here.

  • it is sillythat much americans allways think they can take over every country in the world .

i think the canadians are great and brave fighters. they liberated my country in world war 2. and i thank them for that. not that i think that america is bad. but they allways think they are the boss and are the best in the world at evrything. when america would invade canada they would have a bad time trying to take the country . and probably fail.

  • @75eler Total Canadian males fit for military service: 6.6 million. Total American males fit for military service: 60 million. The United States also has one of the most robust defense sectors on the planet, along with a culture of military service and gun ownership. The Army National Guard is larger than the entire Canadian military, and better equipped. Still think the Canucks would win? Not threatening them by any means, just being honest.

  • @Halo4Lyf i dont think the national guard is equiped better than the canadian army at first. but my point is sometimes numbers dont matter take for example the winter war between finland and the soviet union .finland had an army of aprox300.000 soviet union had milions the entire war turned out in a disaster for the soviets but they did accomplish their targets but at a huge cost of life

  • @75eler First off, there is no "Canadian army." There is Canadian Forces-Land Command. They unified their force structure in the early 90s, I believe, when they transitioned to a post-Cold War peacekeeping role. They are not in any way prepared for a high intensity conflict anywhere in the world, let alone on their own ground.

Finland achieved an army of 300,000 through conscription. Think Canadians would tolerate that, even while being invaded by a foreign power? I don't think so.

  • @Halo4Lyf at first i do know the canadian forces land command i am just used to the word ''army' because most countries in the world use that therm i also think the land forces command IS capable of high inensity conflicts worldwide as it is a land force like any other and most of canada is thinly populated making guerilla and scorched earths tactics possible and when canada is invaded i think a lot of canadians would enter military service as canada is very patriotic

  • No single country won world war 1 by themselves it was co-operation from the british French Russians canadians and Americans which win the war

  • this whole fucking movie is complete nonsense....

    germans with wo2 helmets

    battles in the nomans land

wth, was there no historical suprevisor in this bad fucking movie???????

  • @TheSandboxes they also use those helmets in wo1 they're not only wo2.But you're right this movie is not realistic

  • @TheSandboxes ur retarded they used accurate german helmets for that era and yes there were battles in no man's land idiot

  • @MrUrmom1234

you think the fights were like that?

    who's the moron here?

  • @TheSandboxes

Germans used the Stalenhelm after 1915, mainly for the reason that their were accounts of French/British soldiers actaully grabbing the horns of the Pikables and slicing the throats of soldier in an almost execution like style.

No-mans Land was a common battlefield you fricking derp. You ever heard of charges? They had to take the enemy trenches some how.

  • @JoeSkylynx

right, but i think they are not realistic, even completely idiot in this movie, most of the time they were in the trenches, sometimes for months, in this movie it seems like they were fighting all the time.

  • 43 person are ww1 soldiers

  • @Valou415 ???

  • @eyalgracyani889 Look at the number of people who do not like the video

  • Thank God I was not born in the early part of the 20th centurary. The two generations who fought in both World Wars had to live through some of the darkest times in our planets history. My grandparents fought in both wars I cant imagine what it must have been like for them. To think that 14/15 year old boys lied about their age and went to war for their country is frightening. Hopefully they will never be forgotten.

  • @pearljam619 wat do umean u dont know wat it would be like for them look in the video

  • @hithyde it was a patt situation before america declared war to germany i think.

in my opinion britain and france won´t have won the war without the american help (i don´t mean soldiers here)

  • @hithyde Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders and Indians did.

  • @5:16 cooool :) ... hands thru the head out to the mouth !

  • Kid @ 4:17 is chillin like a villain.

  • incredible film!

  • XD 1:15 TABARNAK ! prod to be candien and Quebecer :)

  • I think this was a tad bit exaggerated.

  • According to this video, all Canucks seem to be supermen!

  • Why the hell are they all working their bolts? And of course, no German defeats a Canadian in CQC. So inaccurate and typical.

  • Verdun?Good grief French nationalist nonsense -- the first French mutinies occurred afterward, such a great victory it was for them. Marne, Ypres, all of these confuse stalemates and draws for German defeats. Blunting German assaults (while losing far more men in doing so) hardly constitutes defeating them.Indeed, if all of these were German defeats, why no German retreats? Why didn't the war end prior to the Yanks arriving? (Vimy Ridge: small potatoes.Give the Canadians one here.)

  • The Germans didn't lose a single major battle until the Americans entered the war in force -- in fact, the war ended with the Germans still occupying a large portion of France and Belgium. It was Germany's domestic political situation (starvation, rioting) that caused Germany to capitulate.

  • @whitetower67

    vimy ridge, enough said.

  • @whitetower67 The Germans lost Vimmy Ridge, Cambrais, Siege of Verdun, The battle of Marnes, Arras 1st Ypres and Third Yepres, Second battle of Marne, all before the americans arival in the war All of them were major campaigns, it would serve you better to look at a text book before you state something so bold next time

  • @whitetower67 The Germans lost Vimmy Ridge, Cambrais, Siege of Verdun, The battle of Marnes, Arras 1st Ypres and Third Yepres, Second battle of Marne You should do more research. There are Countries that can do just as good as America. America isn't better then anyone else.

  • @vinejuli311 If America were to invade Canada tomorrow, do you honestly think they could stop us?

Please, it is silly when such nations pretend they're even as remotely powerful as the United States.

  • @Halo4Lyf You just proved how the US is a oppresive evil country well done.

  • @Halo4Lyf Also You think of your self so big when the truth is that your an extremely hated country world wide. As for Canada is liked vary much. When America was building weapons to hurt people Canada was building new ways to help people. If we both went to war You would see the majority of the globe coming to Canada's aid. You can make a throne out of bayonets but you can sit on it for long.

  • @vinejuli311 Oh, blow me, canoe head. Why need we care what you or any other nation's opinion of us is? As long as you trade with us, and stay out of our way, we don't give a fuck. Nor should we. Canada hasn't mattered in any strategic calculations for a long, long time.

Oh, the rest of the world would come to save you, eh? With WHAT!? The mighty forces of the European Union? Think Russia or China would go to bat for you? Think Britain would trade Sheffield for Montreal in a nuclear exchange?

  • @Halo4Lyf Thus, the arrogant attitude that makes America one of the most despised nations in the world.

You yanks fancy kit and large badass army doesn't seem to be doing jack fucking shit against ill trained poorly equipped goat herders moonlighting as terrorists.

Bigger the pride, bigger the fall.

  • @TheLegendofPatrick Clearly we are one of the most despised nations in the world. Goes with the territory. Now ask me if I care.

Actually yes, the fancy kit and "large" Army (it's not that big) is doing quite well against the poorly equipped goat fuckers who run around the hills. The problem, like in Vietnam, is a lack of political will to do what is necessary to win. Hopefully our boys can hold on long enough for a real man to gain the presidency and order us into Pakistan to finish the job.

  • Every war is brutal but i feel relieved that he didnt get through this. And i personally think that Korean War was not as horrible as this one.

  • The most horrible war i've ever seen. Can't believe ww1 was this brutal, visceral.

I feel sorry for the german, canadian, french, english, australian and the rest of the european people and soldiers who died in this war or saw the infernal things in this war. Being a Korean, i feel grateful that i was not one of this people. And i even feel grateful that my grandfather who fought in Korean War didnt die in this way. He survived the war and told me that he didnt want to remember anything from it.

  • If everyone in the comments is done bitching about how the germans in this "Got their asses kicked" I hope you do see the parts do actually kill some people, just to dumb to fire the guns. but the main reason i made this comment was for the "HOLY SHIT" part at 5:21 I'd be crazy shitting myself if i did that

  • was this the civil war?

  • @bluballzzz World War I

  • is this ww1?

  • @bachiboy18 Yes Sir

  • I'm from Polan and U know what ? I Like Germans? why? beacouse they allways our treuer enemy not like fuckin british and americans and french they are traitors.

  • @nugal893 Lol, I wonder what would have become of your nation if none of the Allies marched into it to stop the Germans from massacring your Jews.

  • @killu19 Are U Stupid? the Passchendaele battle was in first world war not second that's first second the Jews are from all europe not only Poland and Allies were not immediately opposed to the massacres in the east during the war. American Banks aided three residuals and U.S. corporations helped the arms przemyslu.German French did not meet their commitments as allies england

  • @nugal893 Lol, no shit. You think I don't know about World War I and World War II? I'm saying that a lot of Polish people are ungrateful for the efforts of the Allies during World War II. Your country was getting fucked by not only Germany but Russia as well. Then the Russians marched in and took Poland from the Germans once they were seen as the victim, not the aggressor.

  • Wow yeah that is really bad. At least in Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers etc. the germans kill some allied soldiers.

  • GERMANY!!!!

  • yea I dont really like how the media always portrays the competent western allies, pushing over "useless" germans. Fuck political correctness

the germans kicked ass in ww1, here they got their asses handed over to them by 20 canadians

  • The monsters that planned this battle, that kept sending men to die. Cold blooded mass murderers. They will rot in hell.

  • Nobody "Won" WWI. It only led to WWII and the Cold War and the shit storm we're in now.

    Fuck the Treaty of Versailles.
