  • Very Python-esque.

  • Honestly, never mind the naysayers. I suppose they're entitled to their opinion, but the sound is fine, the staging is fine, the look is interesting. The Rs sound fine to everyone who's not specifically listening for the Rs.

The semi-modern dress is interesting, and the guns and setting give them something to do besides stand around singing about themselves. It's a very believable thing, and further -adds to the performance-. It's ridiculous to claim that this is done for egotistical reasons.

  • I must add---very good voices---would only they had not tried to update it as said below

  • Truly different---and awful. Other than the "List Song" G&S do not need updating to satisfy egos

  • TantaRRRRa? Really? With the American R? What choral director allowed this?

  • @manwithabook What's an American R? Southampton is on the south coast of England - any accent you can hear is pure Hampshire (with a bit of Dorset from one cast member)

  • whenever i see a modern version of this i think you (the audiance) should hear the some of a car or something pulling up ,them getting out then hearing a shot and a load of feathers or a bird should drop out of the rafters then they all come on and one says "Blimey that was bloody good shot!" and start singing. just like what they did hear almost

  • Well, that's certainly a different "take" on the entrance of the peers! But I enjoyed it and the singers have excellent voices. Thank you for posting.

  • What a splendid bunch of titled old duffers! :P Very nice!

  • This is very original and very well performed, and the company has quite a large male chorus which is often lacking in operatic societies!

  • i think they look better in tehir mantles and crowns

  • Oh, I wish I could have seen this!

  • @Johnmartine63 it was fantastic!

  • @mattpikesoton no it isnt, okay are thaeter is doing this and we sound better and we are kids

  • @singerdude1234 I strongly doubt a bunch of kids could produce the quality in sound with unbroken voices. I did this show when I was a kid so I do know how its meant to sound! And kids cannot get the power and quality of bass and tenor parts. If you had seen this show live, like I did, I am convinced that you would have a different opinion

  • @mattpikesoton no, voices changed all of us, and by the way i did the show so i know aswell, and doing now. so yea. and i sing a lot of full voice songs im also the lord chansoler.... and the stageing is off to its supposed to be pompes, not like that.

  • @singerdude1234 Its an updated version!!!!! They can do what they like! So its not wrong at all, just changed in a way to bring ageing story lines up to date

  • @mattpikesoton that dosent mean its the right way....

  • @singerdude1234 I didn't say it was the right way. Granted, its a matter of opinion, but in the first place it was you who said it wasn't fantastic when I did it was

  • No they're not - this production is set in modern times.

  • no its not, ur totally wrong

  • were playing this at band :) wicked :) i love the vocals :) wickedXD

  • added the comment to the wrong page. it was a continuation the message i had left, for lolanthe-all night long.

  • being great at singing is not always as good, if you need to convey the message and character of the player. this style is much more intersting and believable, than if it were sung by a great singer. bravo.

  • you need both for it to be a good performance...being a poor singer is never an option...unless this were on Broadway

  • Vocally these blokes are very good, and the understated orchestration brings out the fine four part harmony which sometimes gets drowned out with more robust orchestration. I would have liked to have seen this production.
