This is great. The simplicity reminds of the way Bruce opens Live 1975-85 with it. You have great taste, talent, and courage - Mr. Springsteen's presentations of his own songs are hard to compete with. While you don't want to duplicate them exactly, if you change them too much you increase risk outrght failure.
And he has millions of fans, like me, who think he's a gift from God, and who are far too quick to criticize. The critics are generally jerks, I think. Very nicely done.
I love Bruce! He is the BOSS! This is an amazing cover. The ukelele is awesome! You should check out Mumford and Sons The Cave. It's awesome! They're a british band led by Marcus Mumford and they mean every word they sing. They put so much meaning into their songs!
i've been a bruce fanatic since i was 16. that was 33 yrs ago. i really enjoyed watching, and listening to your vid. there's a lot of emotion that comes thru. nicely done.
@TheFiksus I didn't use any tabs for this, really. I just did a search for the chords and instead of strumming, did an outside/inside picking pattern. Give it a try! Good luck!
great uke version.!..have always loved this song ever since it came out and we were teenagers crusing in a 72 barracuda. we must have bought 3 cassettes that summer from wearing it out. my buddy Byron Selim and i cruised til the wheels fell off. thanks for your version, you did it well! never realized that since 75, that song still plays strongly especially when i ride my harley! once again, thank you!
Thank you, especially for sharing your story. I'm relatively new to Bruce's music (and what exactly took me so long, I will never know), but it's definitely strong stuff. Thanks again for sharing your memory... it put a smile on my face.
I would not be the least bit upset if you were jealous-- I'm sad that I couldn't take everybody with me because it was a totally cool experience that I think everyone should have. Seriously. Even if you have to drive 12 hours and can only afford $30 nosebleed seats, you should see the Boss cos it's awesome.
Anyway, thanks for your comments. Also, when you get around to posting more videos, maybe you could cover a Bruce tune yourself. :)
This is a great song, I love what you did with it. The finger picking pattern is very pretty but laid back and puts the focus on the melody of the vocals and your voice is great.
Thank you! I'm very intrigued by your observation. I guess I am not inclined to make a connection between one's instrument and one's voice. I will have to pay closer attention to that sort of thing in the future. Thanks again!
I was considering tuning/capo-ing up which would have been easier for me on those lower notes, but it just didn't feel right. Thank you so much for your kind words.
Oh, my darling. So good to hear from you. Glad to know that you enjoy my ukulele tinkering. Thank you for bestowing the "tits honor" on this video. I will treasure it forever.
Did you read that this week more than 200 academics from around the world are gathering in W. Long Branch to discuss all things Springsteen? (Lots of side trips to the Stone Pony in, I hear.)
I have heard about these Springsteen conventions before. Actually a friend of mine (Jason Stonerook, whom I mentioned in a previous video) presented a paper at the symposium in '05. We recently learned that the essay, along with others, will be published early next year. Unfortunately, I can only take so much time off of work, so I'll have to wait for another year to attend.
Thank you very much.
