I agree about the importance of the role of the bystander, and students do need to feel they're safe when they're at school. I think or kids these days have been desensitized to some extent by video games, the media, etc. and we need to work on restoring empathy. My mother came home hours after the assault and found her daughter unable to wake up; when she held her face in her hands she could feel large welts on her head. She was taken to the hospital and my mother was told she had a concussion caused by a beating. That is how she found out about her daughter
My sister was then called into the office. She was bruised and crying and she asked if the principle wouldn't tell my mother (she thought SHE had done something wrong). The principle did NOT contact my mother in regards to this assault. My sister is 13 years old, this was not right; my sister was rushed to the hospital after this had happened.

Why did they have to make new laws? dosen't this fall under harrasment . Pretty soon you will not be able to breath in someones direction without breaking a law. Being bothered and called names Harrasment, being punched or personaly abused assault, Driving these poor teenagers to kill themselves Manslaughter etc. The laws are already in place. USE THEM before there are more.

Or something. I'm not gonna lose my child just because other people can't raise theirs right. My heart is broken for these families and what the kids went through. It must have been hell to feel that hopeless at 11.
You are right about that, I used to be skinny so people wanted to pick on me but I had a black belt in karate and a golden gloves in boxing I kicked butt. I teach my little cousins how to fight to protect them selves from bullies.
Good deal. If other people don't have the sense to teach their kids to leave our kids alone---then we'll have to teach our kids to put a foot in their behind. This is all about RESPECT. We don't need to force our kids to like everyone they meet, that's just not realistic. But if you don't like some kid---just leave him alone!! It's that simple.
I think the parents have as much to do with it as the media. The term gay nowadays is one of the most hurtful thing a boy can be called especially if he isnt and simply because there are so many connotations associated with the word. The bullying has to stop. I wish people would use their heads before believing everything their parents or churches said. Most of my family is very homophobic but I don't care. Very few Christians have a problem with people being homosexuals since many are born like that. What they have a problem with is the lifestyle of homosexuality.

Those who are given many good things, many good things will be expected. In the opposite case, God is more lenient towards those who put up with more in life, rewarding them with more.
