Taste in music is purely subjective. What works for me, may not work for you. To each their own. But strangely enough, I started listening to Mat Kearney after I had just come off of listening to Coldplay for quite a while. So apparently there is a similarity between Kearney and Martin in my unconscious mind that led me from one to the other. If you'd ask me to quantify the connection, I could not.
This is like a watered down second-rate version of Chris Martin...and Chris Martin isn't even that great, though at least Chris' song writing is a bit better. Thumbs down to this guy, sorry.

Rock that C chord! God. Such amazing shredding talent. When he hit the G chord, I nearly fell out of my chair.
Sarcasm aside, he has a nice voice. He keeps his voice closed a bit like Isaac Slade from The Fray. Slightly boring music to me, but I can see how people could listen to it in a chill mood. We all need an escape from "The Metal," as so beautifully anthropomorphized by Tenacious D.
