  • haha right viz a viz johnny thunders being a semi-lousy live singer. i was just saying (in code) that Jo-Hansen the former teen-porn actor is/was one of my least favorite lead singers (in an important band) of all time, just a matter of personal taste. (and vice versa my favorite non-heavy metal singers of that era: Noddy Holder, Iggy Pop 69-73, Eric Carmen, Marc Bolan 70-71 maybe, Ian Lloyd of Stories definitely, Chris Bell/Alex Chilton of the boxtops i mean Big Star maybe ditto....).

  • haha the NY Dolls played LA four times. all four were a DISASTER (musically) save perhaps the Whiskey (which was a multiple night engagement, first trip out). the Roxy, the Santa Monica Civic (where they were worse than the Sweet a year or two later, who were absolutely clueless/godawful, as expected per UK press viz a viz the awesomme Slade live show), and then the Palladium "Death of Glitter" show. ask anyone who was there. i'll vouch for the Palladium: omg are you kidding me. REFUND!

  • @metalmikeinoakland

no pun intended, but you're talking trash.

Johnny's best contribution to the dolls was his guitar playing, I still prefer David Johansen as the lead singer. L.A.M.F. was an amazing album though. /watch?v=wun5Cg-xr-s

listen to how off key Johnny is on Pills.

dont insult the dolls, after seeing one bad live recording from them. They sounded absolutely great live. this shitty little camcorder isnt going to have the best audio quality.

  • "The best NYC band of all-time, that's how!"

    whaaaaaat???????? BLUE OYSTER CULT

merely the greatest hard rock american band ever

you get past them, we can talk about the Velvet Underground pro and con

"music" as we knew it died the minute the walking farce known as Sid Vicious was allowed to join the Sex(less) Pistols, so we aren't allowed to include the Ramones in the NYC short list. or a list of "great rock bands" whose drummers actually know how to play a drum roll/fill.

  • punk rock just isn't what it used to be

  • hmmmm same town same year KISS are 1,0000 times >>>>>> better

HOTTER THAN HELL (2nd lp) is 50 times better than the 1st NYDolls album (which is pretty good)

but i'm forgetting that L.A.M.F. is also 100 times better than that 1st NY Dolls album. most overrated album ever. 1/2 of it is UNLISTENABLE boring as fuck songs that go on forever zzzzzz. and omg the singer is TERRIBLE. lead Thunders sing you idiots!

  • @metalmikeinoakland lol..... 1,0000?

  • swoon swoon swoon johnny thunders swoon swoon swoon

  • What year was this? It looks like from before they got really Glam. Or maybe it was just really hot.

  • "Trash" came out on a 45 rpm single in 1973, which dates this video nicely.

Considering what else was happening that year (mostly, formula arena-rock and early disco), this is a mind-blower and then some.

  • this is AWESOME!!

  • I saw these guys.

  • Is this on the All Dolled Up DVD?

  • Paul Stanley Bogarted David Johansen's style BIG TIME.

  • Hey where's Killer Kane?

  • @siouxie921 He was there but could not play cause His Girlfriend at the time (Connie ) was crazy and cut his thumb off .. he was bandaged up .. But he did go on the tour with them but could not play .. You can see him in the Documentary New York Dolls " All Dolled up .. He looked so sad ..

  • In terms of style and stage presence, almost everyone stole from these guys (who in turn ripped off alot from The Stones). In the 80s, dozens of crappy California hairbands looked like The Dolls in '74 in one way or another (without the humor and originality of course)

  • is this when jerry nolan was drummer or billy murcia???

  • @KathyTheres93 I didn't see an answer to your question, so here it is: Jerry Nolan.

  • I suspect drugs

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting

  • @Ronniewants2die You are full of shit. Speak for yourself. You're a db with an opinion, and I find it to be a weak one at best. These are not crappy songs and I've been listening to the Dolls for a long fucking time. I still find them as great as I ever did. I don't give a shit what ignorant fucks like you say and never have. The day I start caring if pricks like you believe my bands transcend their time is the day I'll start buying whatever pop shit is being puked out on top 40 radio. FO!

  • Great bold attitude and definitely iconoclastic, but crappy songs. I think it's have been interesting to see them back in the day against the cultural times. Good music ie; songs should (To a certain degree) transcend their time. I would say that only a small minority of the Dolls' songs do that.

  • I'm going to see them open for Poison and Motley Crue tomorrow!

  • @Spencer3728 Poison and Motley Crue should open for THEM

  • @zepps88 absolutely agree, Poison and Motley Cure stole A LOT from them.

  • And Poison mostly stole their act from a band on the scene back in the day called Kix. They stole a lot from Kix. I'm not a Kix fan. But I remember seeing them once before both bands were signed.

  • @Ronniewants2die Transcend their time...will someone grab this guy a fucking clue. This band is easily one of the most influential acts in rock n roll history. you're incorrect. I won't call you any names bc I don't know you, but seriously step off the fucking NYD.

  • @zepps88 I totally agree

  • @zepps88 Too RIGHT!

  • Looks like someone ran out of song ideas...

  • Mais que uma lenda...

  • i just saw them lst night sorry to say they did terrible. but like there was no crowd barley. but poison and crue where the shit

  • the persistent racket of Jerry's drums mixed with David's booming voice and the scream of Johnny's guitar create something nonreplicably beautiful

  • godfathers of punk.....

  • Damn. This brings back memories of hanging with Syl at the Cat Club and Noise and the old Milk Bar back in the 80's.

  • Great footage. I'm glad this got released on DVD. Sucks that Arthur Kane had to sit out that leg of the tour with an injury.

  • i was there !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @agyvonne u lucky lucky woman ive seen them but not waaaay back then

  • @agyvonne Beleive me... You wernt

  • @agyvonne

    and i wasn´t even born

    Music for Generations!

  • look at thunders lucious locks!

  • So cool. So so so so cool.

  • Imagine the Dolls on Wonderama. Imagine Bob McAllister dressed in drag.

  • My Critique: Rare live footage of legendary rock group. Audio and video quite satisfactory. Well done.

  • 'Trash' How great were the Dolls? The best NYC band of all-time, that's how!

  • @MadderRoseRulz no ramones ore patti smith group

  • @PKMLshow No. The New York Dolls were...It is indesputable ; )

  • @MadderRoseRulz

    The Velvet Underground

  • @psychkoala Agreed

  • @MadderRoseRulz fuck, you're just blessed.

  • @xelexpunx You're right, I am blessed....sorry for my 1 year late reply. Now, if anyone thinks that The Velvet Underground or Patti Smith were "better" than the Dolls, I can only say that I respectfully disagree. My 2012 resolution is to respect folks' opinions. That said, The Original New York Dolls were...the best f-cking NYC band of all-time...

  • look...there is thunders :( i miss him so much ♥

  • feeling hot hot hot ... sorry wrong incarnation

  • Waste cases...

  • which one is thunders again??

  • Comment removed

  • @Thekijuju Are you kidding me? He is all the way on the right, hes the lead guitarist.

  • what is this song about? i'm sure there is something philosophical behind it.

  • @Jedi4531 The philosophy is called -Unrequited Love----- in this case with a tough street, NYC girl. see Mickey and Silvia, "Love is Strange" or the Shangra-Las "Great Big Kiss" for further reference

  • johnny thunders might be the coolest man alive

  • @CrawlingKingSnakeJM hes dead

  • @vansrok1 well i know but you still know what i mean

  • @CrawlingKingSnakeJM Yea I do I was just being a dick, I like The Heartbreakers better than the Dolls.

  • @CrawlingKingSnakeJM Nope--not when ya involve heroin.

  • Bob Gruen does indeed own the rights to this and a whole mess of other early NY Dolls footage and photographs- he essentially followed them around for the first yr. or 2! Love to hear Johnny's back-up vocal- not quite the same without it...the boys were young and beautiful, and it's great to see David Jo and Sylvain still rockin' all these yrs. later, but it's not quite the same..the love is there but the romance is gone..Wonderama?! Still LMAO!! Arthur is not in this- his old lady stabbed him!

  • Thunder's hair is to fucking die for

  • this is fucking awesome..was this recorded before their debut album??

  • Who owns this footage. Would love to know

    Yvonne

    maxskc@aol.com

  • @maxskc10 this footage is from the documentary "All Dolled Up" and it was filmed by Bob Gruen and his wife. I would assume that they own rights to the footage but i don't know for sure
