Mr. Alpert reads a book, drops some acid, takes a bit of a holiday in India and returns to the states with a beard. By the way, don Juan actually said that death is always over the left shoulder, an arm's length away.
Ram , i am so encouraged by your mention of carlos casteneda and his teacher (don juan mateus)... death as an advisor// ia am both artist and nurse in palliative and rehab... you are so much part of the same soul, i reach out to you and know i am already there... peace to you in all, may we share and remind eternally until the journey is complete "be love here now eternal".. we are like sub atomic particles and it makes perfect sense, it is not a lie!
I love Ram Das and thanks for whoever puts these videos on and thanks to Ram Das for bringing these enlightening sessions to everyone and preserving them on video or those of the future. Thanks Thanks Thanks!
Death and dying prove how useless you are. If you cannot produce ,move , influence, promote change, influence people, you have no value. The energy of youth sells product easily ,influences and programs folks in ways that serve the materialistic processes we worship. Doing has the value, being is a lazy mans venue. Death has to be seen as the realm of the loser the one who could not make it the one who missed the boat, the one we dismiss as having been worthless. Life is great don't weaken. DA
@jobedied So you admit you are useless? You realize your death is imminent, correct? But I think you are mistaken. Energy is neither created nor destroyed, consciousness is an energy, ergo the claim that it is just "destroyed" goes against all common and scientific knowledge.
@BrianNineTails Hi Brian DA is short for devils advocate I feel like you do was expressing the sacred cow of our world cultures larger view. Just my thought ,do not even think awareness can die only change venues like going from sleep to dream to wakeful back and forth death being another mode or expression of energy changing into other energetic quantum fields . In fact I will go so far as to say I know death is not an end , love has no time limitation, location, end, it conquers eternity.
I personally think our human brain has its limit in these topics, . Always, our reasoning goes into full circle and ends were it started, so we never get to the answers we seek. Try thinking about death...you will always end up thinking it is a part of life and how to enjoy life, but you will never understand its purpose,or what happens after, we only rely on theories...which can't be proven to be truth, its reality is evasive. Is in this aspect were this issues are too much for our brain.
We do not treat dying people well in the West. Ram Dass and Steven Levine did wonderful work in this area and I hope their work is carried on. Ram Dass's friend told him that death is perfectly safe. It is like taking off a tight shoe.
I don't know where I would be without Ram Dass, for anyone who thinks that he is always this delayed and slow-speaking, then you are in for quite a shock when you hear him as he had ALWAYS BEEN FOR HIS ENTIRE LIFE. A truly extraordinary and yet completely normal human being, he was real and there's nothing more valuable than being real.
Personally, though, I think it is a fallacy to consider him to be "the best". He is a reflection of the goodness and love that you already have inside you
Almost anything lol, I always used the audio share program Soulseek to get many of his files and they're all great.
I would recommend "Dying into Life", "Journey to the East" and "Death is not an outrage"
They are very wonderful and I feel like each one alone has changed my life, they are all completely down to earth and fully understandable talks from the heart of a very great man about the most important things in life itself and its all something to take into your own life you know
One line from "Death is not an outrage" has really rung loudly in my entire being for a while since I've heard it
"Many of you heard last night the Rabbi Krishna, he's the religious tradition I grew up with, but what I heard was the speech of a humanist basically. What he said was, 'It's really too bad we die'
and what you can offer is to make the last moments of life as valuable as you can and to make the person feel like somebody.

Good response! I think Ram Dass would've been amused and agreed with the allah unconsciouness. Seriously though, Ram Dass is and will continue to be a great teacher. I loved how he learned from care taking his ill father and went on to share his patience. I became a better and loving person for it. Even helped me be more patient with the unevolved in our midst.
Thanks for this beautiful video on Death! I have been in contact with Death many times, because of strong illness or operations in my past. These experiences have changed my "Life" intensively and made me much stronger to new importants daily confrontations. I enjoy your video so much! Much Love and Bliss to you, dear Ram Dass.
This is America old age and weakness cannot be tolerated. How can one profit when in that mode? LOL

If it wasn't for the internet, I would have never known about this man.
My Father just had a stroke and I sympathize with the condition.
I hope I can comfort him with wisdom like this.

Ram is still as articulate as he ever was, his delivery is just a bit slower. His recovery from stroke has been nothing less than PROFOUND.

And I would say is that what your work is...
Guard385 2 years ago
"Is to do not that at all, but to find in yourself the perfect balance between life and death.
Where you're not grabbing at one or pushing away the other. You are merely listening and an instrument for the process.
And that you're meeting this person behind all of our "somebody-nesses"
When you can give up your clergy-person-ness, maybe the dying person can give up their dying-person-ness, and we can
just be
as fellow souls, on an incredible journey..."

The thing that makes it difficult for me to take in anything from what is being said is that it is all so vague
