  • There is no easy love, the one I'm thinking of.

  • Gillan was good too!

  • Not my favs in 80s but top 10 now

  • A superb live performance - Shakatak have always been a great live band - try and catch one of their 2012 shows if you can, you won't be disappointed! Also good to see Nigel Wright on the electronic keyboards.

  • A lot of memories.. Thanks Muchas gracias

  • i love it so beatiful

  • Yeah, I was there in those original days. saw them live several times - loved them - my heart and my soul. With you always Shakatak. Always fresh, always real, always me, always with you xxxxx. White boy age 54, never grown up. You will never understand how much this song meant and still means to be. Its an anthem in the purest form

  • The background dancers always make me laugh on Top of the Pops!

  • Tight cold bass licks!!!!

  • From the way the musicians keep their faces pointed at the camera, I think they knew it was probably their first and last appearance on Top of the Pops.

  • @trashcanalive Well what does that matter? TOTP is no more yet Shakatak continue to play to sold-out venues all over the world where their live show is superb.

  • @Nesta13Gerrad8 shit on mtv and from the clubs have nothing to do with hip hop. Maybe it's rap(stinky ole gay ass rap) but thats about it

  • A really under-rated band that created great music that I still enjoy listening to today .

  • This is so slinky it could set a world record in slinking if slinking was an olympic event

  • @trashcanalive haha love it !!

  • that what i call music i love this style the best of best

  • 0:50 lol

  • @ilipsoussan Yeah he was lovin it.

  • Remember seeing Shatatak at the Hammersmith Palais back in the early 80's and this record just send me back there - Caught up with them recently at the Pizza Express jazz club in Maidstone and they were still brill. Happy days

  • СМАЧНО!!!!!

  • Norwegian?

I' don't think about ..perhaps they are canadians...

    But great of sure!!!

  • @misterdesig , he is finish dude

  • Nigel Wright is the other keyboard player with Bill Sharpe ( the one with the full beard ). If my memory is correct, prior to this, played with a band fronted by Mike Palmer at a local Tiffany`s. Did a lovely rendition of ` Jungle Boogie ` by Kool & the Gnang. Went on to produce, write, conduct and orchestrate many good songs.Been an avid fan, and still am, to this day, from the beginning!

  • its when that keyboard kicks in you really get this one.....cool stuff

  • Slap dat bass mutha f*cka!

  • Great times....

This or similar was played at discotec short before they had to close. We were tired, pushed and this one led us to go swimming in warm summer nights, this led us to go down to the riverside for talking.

Yes, I agree, those were the days...... the days, the time and the spirit when everything was possible.

BTW, does anybody rememter Gill Scott Heron''s great "The Bottle",or Tribute's "New Views"?

Same time, same ages, same feeling.

  • groovey

  • Summer nights in the 80's listening to this tune....... pure bliss back then.

  • Great song!!.... Great group!!....Great times!!

  • Norwegian Pop Singer Annie samples this track in her 2004 song "No Easy Love" and she does a damn good job of it!

  • wht amazing keyboard type????

    nowaday keyboards suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

    wonderful bill player

    has amazing touch on keyboard

  • Where has time gone?

  • I love this video and song. this is how real parties use to be. eveyone laughing, having fun and jamming to the beautiful sounds of real music. awesome

  • @finenfabulouscious Absolutely right! Smooth parties back in the 80's, with a smattering of disco. A time when snogging, hand-holding and second base was allowed with no one complaining! :)

  • is so sad this song... why every body is laughting??

  • love it

  • Slap that bass lad

  • Great to see JOHN PEEL on that video. I wonder if he had played this song ever on his own show......

  • you can drink this smoothie juice all the long with no hangover.. such a gentle and romantic

  • What's the name of that song with al jarreau?

  • great video enjoy it.

  • God Bless yer John Peel

  • Slap that bass lad

  • Thanks Jill for singing on our hit jazz funk song (the Midnite Band)

  • Hello Nigel - remember Mike Palmer et seq, Tiffs Days - you know where!Loved your rendition of ` Jungle Boggie` too ! As always - speak to Roger, he knows who I am!

  • Funk music of the 80's. Shaktak were brilliant. Superb guys.

  • One of the best groups from the eighties....MORE FANTASTIC ´80´s music at my channel!!!!!

  • Great Memories, I love this genre. I remember chilling to this in the 80's when TOTP was worth watching. Great Keyboards.

  • what great memories i have w/ their music...i miss my family.....

  • Bought this back in 1981, pure class

  • So Evocative of its time and place- the sound, the atmosphere, the costumes (love the Courtesan/Showboat girl front right) andf the entire ambience of the Early 80's. Remember whem TOTP was actually fun?

Well, it was if you were 10-14 I suppose..

  • brings back good high school memories back in 1983 :) ......thanks for posting.

  • Yes, like this one, nice song (even thought they're obviously faking)

  • Classic of 80s! * * * * *

  • wow. havent heard this since the 80s, i think

  • smooth !!!!

  • Saw them live at Stage 3 in Leysdown, propper group!

  • Music is truly the soundtrack of our lives...

  • Utterly amazing and i love the 12" mix too.

  • great song

  • I remember when my eldest brother came from serving in Germany back in the 80's with a left hand drive ford cortina with Jazz Funk across his windscreen and indroduced me to Shakatak. Thanks bro love ya.x

  • @traymufc

I knew that car saw it at the Rheindahle 72 hour weekender we were the gutersloh jazzsluts oh the memories

  • Comment removed

  • @traymufc I also got into shakatak while serving in the army in Germany as the same time as your brother (1980-1985)

  • wow...thanks for posting this..never saw this TOTP and it's one of my favourite tracks.

  • Being Shakatak's lyricist must have been a cushy job! Great sound though.

  • I loved this band when I was growing up in the UK! I must have been about 8 years old at the time! "Top of the Pops" was always something to look forward to each week. Those were the days... :-)

  • This was the first LP that I got, back in 1981. I still have it, play it, love it to this day.

  • Smoooooooth

  • people where so skinny back then, lol

  • its nice to see girls being girls and not gezzer birds. with there fat guts hanging out and ear rings you could put a parrot on...80 to 83 had some top british funk bands back then....

  • One of their better tunes! Love it!

  • Music is not as original today as it used to be like this. its now all about covering & stealing the original ideas from yesteryear & modernising. This era of music was the best & more inspirational.

  • Great music for listening to when you was driving in the rain, on the way down to smokey town for a night up west. Great memories, great times, just give me a time machine someone...

  • bring this style back yea? Easy jazz, nothing better

  • Haven't heard this one until now (shame) but I'm an instant fan! 10+ stars!

  • underrated music. if they were American and preferably black, they'd have more recognition.

  • I agree with you. I am Black American and most of us thought they were too. If the fact that they were for the U.K. was made known we would have embrassed them as much as we did David Bowie and Human League.

  • it works both ways indeed :)

  • that brought back great memories,i've gone and ordered a dvd

  • YEA!!!!!! Great GroovE!

  • De poca madre!

    Saludos desde México!

  • I simply love this song

  • Great sound! I love Shakatak since the eighties, so nice to find it here on YT!

  • magic sound, lovely girls, sweet melody, it's sounds like 80's romantic and gentle attitude.

  • unique sound from a unique band - who needs George Benson

  • absolutely one of the classics of the eighties

  • ......srdcová záležitosť!!!!!.......

  • Hair apart...

Shakatak were the most sublime and memorable of the so called '80s pop bands.

    Wonderful stuff.

  • That wonderfully splayed bonde hair...

    bring back the '80s...

    ASAP.

  • Went to watch Shakatak at a gig in London earlier this year & they sound just as good as they ever did. Truly talented musicians.

  • Tune.........!

  • Tuuuune!!

  • O:o

  • Brilliant shakatak were 1 of the best bands of the 80 s . With there cool original sound grerat vocals fantastic musicians what can i say . World Class

  • class tune from the best years of music..

  • what a catchy song this should have got to number one the eighties music was simply the best .I wish it was the eighties today as Justin Lee Collins would say good times

  • Great memories, reminds me very much of those cool jazz funk nights at Rafters, and Legends in Manchester in the early 80's. Although Legends was a little more hardcore and for the underground purists.

  • I'm just going to collapse into the luxury of that sound.

  • SHAKATAK was one of the first SMOOTH JAZZ groups

  • wow takes me back was it really 1981 I had a red mk1 escort 1300 sport with a sharp radio cassette player and the world at my feet or so it seemed! I loved that whole brit funk scene where have the years gone !!

  • genius, same here, except i had a green Mk1 1300GT, sharp cassette player, pioneer speakers natch. good times

  • fantastic had a mk 1 escort gt too sharp cassette player pioneer speakers but with apss still with the same babe from these days love it.

  • c'etais une époque béni :p

  • Cela sonne toujours aussi funky malgré les années ! Cela me rappelle que j'ai adoré les années 80.

  • I love this!

  • Still love this music.. It sounds timeless...

@ mrcanessa: Yes, I would love that, a Ferero Roche... LOL

  • God where did we all go wrong from the 80,s to now ????????????

  • Excellent early eighties jazz funk, seen them twice in Sunderland in the eighties

  • a great band great music and thats what u call music

  • love the out fits. they're fab!!! what time's dynasty on? ferero roche anyone?

  • Ferero roche.... LOL

  • i was 22 when they played this at my local night club what great memories realy miss those days .

  • Wish I was 17 again. Funny, I did not make the most of my life then and probably still don't. Lessons till to be learnt. Wink.

  • I wish I could go back too !

  • You never learn your lesson, I am twice as old as you and still making mistakes, and not fulfilling my potential, but would not have it any other way, just enjoy the time, doesn't matter if you get it right or wrong, just try not to hurt anyone along the way. Aim to climb the mountain, but if you only get halfway up, at least you have tried.

  • You cannot appreciate the view from the highest mountain until you have been at the bottom of the deepest valley.

  • This sounded great on 12" in a nightclub in 1982. They are underrated. This still sounds great!

  • Awesome! Memories! Memories! Memories!

  • From those unforgettable albums: Drivin Hard, Night Birds, Invitations, Out Of This world, Down On The Street, and spear but the recent ones like Under Your Spell, Blue Savannah, and Emotionally Blue, Shakatak is the group of all my life! 26 years of being your fan I number one! I LOVE SHAKATAK! Thank you!

  • wonderful! wonderful! wonderful! I have downloaded this song from Radio, it's more wonderful again. Shakatak.. you are wonderfuls! fantastics! Federico from Italy. bye ;)

  • The Godess , proving Talent is eternal .

This woman/band never got the massive acclaim they deserve .

  • Well I think Shakatak is music for musicians, similar in style to what Al Jarreau and the GRP "gang" did back in the 80s and 90s. Those wonderful jazzy harmonies and the impeccably tight and inventive rhythm section are so different from the usually loud, stiff and much simpler, often almost amateurish, 80s sound. I remember how angry I was when I heard radio back in the 90s and stuff like this was background music for voiceovers. The "featured" music was loud, primitive and pretencious...

  • incredible live so talented shakatak forever!

  • Back on TV soon - see Daily Mail report regarding Jill's facelift!!

  • Inolvidable... Keith Winter!!!

  • Shakatak RULE.

  • Incredibly cool!

  • agradable la canción

  • Beautiful song!!

  • The brotha on the bass was the secret weapon! He had the groove!

  • The brother on the bass is still with 'em. I saw them 3 weeks ago in London and they were brilliant. And yes the brother is still monumentally good....top bassist. Top band.See them if you can, they are better than ever. Regards. Paul

  • It was a brotha that switched on the lighting and a brotha behind camera 2. Without them it would be dark and crappy filming. Thank goodness for brothas, I wished I was one.

Behave yourself soul product, he's good but only a part of the band. Are your comments reverse racist ?

  • I don't know what you're talking about, buddy, but there was no hidden meaning behind what I said. I only meant exactly what I said. I'm sure you would agree that George Anderson lays down the funky grooves which provide the foundation of the funky sound. I mean, yes, all the musicians in Shakatak are incredibly talented. But if you subtract brother George from the mix, it just wouldn't be as funky. Dig?

  • Sure, but what about Keith though?? Surely THE most under-rated rhythm guitarist and lead player of ALL TIME???!!!

  • Sure, he does his thang too.

  • Going back to a comment made 7 months ago: this George Anderson 'lays down the funky grooves' take on this song appears to be a touch racist. As if to say the black chap is the only one responsible for the success of this song. Of course, this is a multi-cultural success story.

  • Good point.....

  • Comment removed

  • This doesn't mean I am discrediting the great talent of the rest of the band, for each party involved has an equally great contribution to the music. However, George stands out to me since I can see that he's a real student of the FUNK and his application of that funky knowledge to the sound of Shakatak is quite ostensible. Whether he's black, white, orange or cyan is hardly the matter. He's just undeniably funky and that flavor shines through the music.

  • Agreed, good point.....

  • Hardly a racist comment, the music itself that this group got famous off is black music

  • jazzfunkshizzle ma nizzle & nizzlets ;D

  • love the crazy 80's hair doo's and fashions

  • Where is now Jill Saward pal? I miss her cause she looks warm ,glad & nice in this video and anothers

  • I was lucky enough to see Shakatak live last Saturday in London. They were completely awesome...absolutely fantastic live. I got the chance to talk to the band after. All really top guys. Jill was wonderful. A really talented and lovely lady.

  • Really? , You a lucky guy, congratulations.!!

I too answered over the other vocal who sings in this video, who looks other kind of beauty , more latin, black hair, warm , where is she now? Do you have an idea? Thks 4 Ur answer ( Jill has another kind of beauty, is angellical )

  • According to my original record cover for Nightbirds, the other singers were Jackie Rawe and Lorna Bannon - it says they sing lead vocal on a track each. Hope this helps.

  • Back on TV soon. You heard it hear first. Oh yeah baby

  • jazz de alta qualidade atualissimo

  • Gosh they were white!

  • haha SO!! duh

  • I like your comment Dekard, this group were so underrated. I think the Nightbirds album was where they peaked, it had some great songs including this one. Back in the 80's, , this was the music i liked listening to while cruising through Central London after work going on to a club. Can anyone post one of their earlier tunes-it was mainly instrumental titled In the UK, it had a great city sound, and makes me feel proud to be British.

  • Glad to have discovered this channel - some quality tunes here. I remember dancing to this and Nightbirds at Harrow Leisure Centre in the early 8o's, plus some of the other tunes you have posted. Currently, I am in the process od uploading some Shakatak tunes myself, after recently getting permission from the group. Hope to see you on my channel as well....

  • Look forward to seeing your posts. If you have shakataks 'If You CoulD see Me Now' it would be great if you could post it. Thx.

  • God how time fly,s god bless John Peel and great music from the 80,s. Shame we cant go back !!!!

  • Totally agree with your sentiments .

If I only knew Dr Who !!!!!!

John Peel was a real character .

Great Band and still going .

  • Easy, graceful music

  • wow, amazing. I thought I knew jazz fusion well enough, but heard Shakatak's Marie-Louise the other day and liked it so much. Fusion at its best.

  • down memory lane.. thank you for the clip.

    One of British's best.

  • More than good looking Birds !!

    Talent with a capital T

  • Brings back memories to when I was 12 years old!

  • great group and the late great John Peel ...RIP

  • Shakatak played loads in our local nightclub 'cos they were from the town so this it takes me back YEARS!

  • love jill and jackie, love the music, love shakatak

  • I work shifts so drive around the city a lot at night.

This is a great soundtrack to it.

Light, unchallenging pop-jazz. Not to be over-analyzed.

  • use to work out of town back in the 80s catchn the bus into town would play these guys as well as Benson, Earl klugh always got ex comments also they had an instrumental with a latin feel, mainly lead guitar with a bass solo,if any 1 knows wot the song is Ild luv to know th name .
