I liked and I like even more of their music. Around the same time I received a gift from parents cine-camera, in September 1969! I transferred my movies on YouTube!
Keep in mind when you say you wish you were young way back when ,kids in the future will be saying the same thing for the time we grew up - Me myself i grew up in the 80's and early 90's and i wouldnt trade it for anything - its a revolving notion that will always be! So enjoy your time and live with no regrets!
Wish I was 17 in 1969--Everything happened then! well, ya can't go back..Yet Thanks to all the Artists we get to enjoy that time Vicariously , and hey, that's cool! (I was 14 then, so i still was a Hippie and got the messages, loud and Clear ~! Music changed the world once then, why not let's Do that again now? Instead of Wall ST..anyone agree with that? Jus a thought....Peace & ♥
@idiotwinder Greg Reeves! He was about 15 there. Knew Rick James played with Neil Young. Reeves sounds like early drug casualty/visionary if you read his wiki page. Great great footage. I detest Stills for sacking Reeves, maybe it made Young leave, so that was a good thing too;)
this is as close to nirvana as one can get to on this plane of existence...dig greg reeves on the bass, 14 yrs old?? joanie gettin the fuck down, this is incredible...
The second half of the recording of this performance is a missing treasure greater than the Ark of the Covenant and Montezuma's treasure put together.
The Big Sur '69 is one of my fav music festivals to watch on youtube..It must have been a great one..It's up there with Monterrey...Whos's that nefarr with tambourine around 1.00..Could it be K Fowley??

Why is the camera man in love with the least talented of the five. You have Stills and Young jammin and all we see is Crosby's rythum guitar ! Don't get me wrong - I am very greatful for such a gem. I've watched this 20 times. Simply AWESOME !
I photographed CSN&Y 42 years ago in 1969 when they sang Down By the River on The Music Scene for ABC TV. Have a look by Googling "cacheagency" Once you link to the site, click on Photographers and Collections. Then click on Jeff Allen. Hope you enjoy exploring the over 350 rock photographs from 1968-72 I shot , I'd love your feedback! One of my Pink Floyd photos from 1970 was in last September's issue of Rolling Stone magazine for the upcoming "Wall" article they did on Roger Waters.
Audio is great, people are great, music is amazing, but the video editing kinda grates on me, and the camera work could be better. Wish this vid was as awesome as it deserves to be.
Thanks to CSNY for putting me on a 40 year career of playing guitar. They taught so many of my generation to play and free style jam, love em'. Neil Young the master of a one note guitar solo.
@DPGuitarman What is "Thumbs up if you're 420" ?? I see the joint, etc. I smoked pot for years and was a teen when this Concert was happening-It's a Great party eh? You can just Feel being there with the likes of CSNY Joan Baez and all the Legends of that time Gives me a "Rush" !!
@schlabresfan Wow seem we inhabit different planets, on yours all the demons are in one conveniently labelled basket. Gosh! politics must be so simple for you over there. Good Luck in all you aim to achieve. Peace and Love.
@mcdstuff ya that was the sad thing about the 60's, a lot of smart people fried themselves on drugs. It opened up our society to permanent drug problems we have today.
Has "Celebration at Big Sur" ever been availble in any video format? Until miraculously discovering it here on Youbube, I hadn't seen it since a midnight screening in 1973....
What talent in the guitars of Stephen Stills and Neil Young. Both battling riffs that harmonize, and buzz of power. From their roots of "Bufflao Springfield", they truly were great as the first harmonic leads. Gretsch guitars coupled with Fender power. True brilliance in improvization.
@mcdstuff certainly more so than what we have seen with the monster nanny state and government being created by the progressives. All the EPA rules that hamper energy production, anti business regulations, NAFTA, internet regulations, growth of the IRS, outrageous tax systems(check out how the death tax can rob your estate), heck even Tipper Gores attack on the music industry etc....all leftist. These very same people who were free love, anarchy etc.. now want to control our lives
Always sad to see how morons cut these things in some effort to be artistic and forget to ever show the artists actually PLAYING the extended guitar solos. So many rock movies from the 60s and 70s do this over and over. Aerial shots, dancers, show Stills when Young is playing a solo, show Young when Stills is playing solo, show Crosby when Stills and Young are both playing solos. Sigh.
a golden age for america but now everything is better were more free now then we were back then all we need to do is turn in our guns and give up our rights.
@bakedinspiration You have it backward... we were much more free to what we wanted back then. We currently have many more laws, regulations, restrictions, and a reduction in personal rights & freedoms than ever before.
@slimshine953 agreed, whats even more ironic is some of these young hippie generation would go on to become our leaders and enact more laws, regulations, reduction in personal liberty, ever growing gov't etc... in the modern progressive mov't. Now it's the "conservatives" who have become the counter culture in a way and get back our freedoms, reduce regulations, etc. Interesting how history goes.
As much as I adore Crosby and Stills And Nash, and i do, Anyone can tell that Neil was a talent above and beyond any aspirations at this time. The man is awesome.
