  • Exchange of email with someone i been talked to... Regards to FUBU Slogan/Logo stuff... Shall we say FDBD, stand for "For Deaf By Deaf", sound good?

  • Yes, does sound good.

  • Dr.Don, well done!!! My suggestion to Dr.Don, if you have facebook, can you please make a facebook group that will spread all over the world! The facebook group can include all your and Ryan Commerson's vlogs, who are well known about what is really going on with VRS. Deaf people will join the group and watch video of your VLOGS then the community can do the action! I feel that this argument has to spread globally for people to UNDERSTAND the reality of VRS.

  • GREAT SUGGESTION, kr3w4! I'll do that! I agree Ryan's vlogs are also good.

  • Dr. Don G.

I recently subscribed your channel! Very interesting video you made! :-)

I was wondering what is "FUBU" mean until you explained about it. Ah, now I got it! Yes, definitely, Deaf Community should use FUBU to support each other.

Yes, I felt disgusted about Sorenson and other hearing owned companies that is not allowing any Deaf people to have the higher position, agreed with you, we should use Deaf Owned companies to see if hearing owned companies will fold. :-)

    Good post!

    Owens

  • Yes! That's what bothers me lately. That's one of the reasons why I keep using Convo. Your resolution becomes mine, too!

  • Thanks for the FUBU! I will make a pin button of it to sell. Happy 2010!

  • deafmilitants, I don't think it matters if the relay owners are in Wisconsin or not. Just join/subscribe to a deaf owned relay service and you will get the service no matter where you live or where they are headquartered.

  • Don G... I not seen my vlog comment i left under your vlog. I hope it will pop up somehow soon.

  • I had to approve it. I think you should be able to see it now.

  • How can you people be so ungrateful to hearing people? Wasn't it hearing people who "invented" VRS? You wouldn't have it if it wasn't for hearing people. You say there aren't any Deaf in upper management. Maybe there weren't any Deaf people who applied. Or, the Deaf who did apply weren't fit for the job. I'd like to see you all live on a deserted island-without hearing people. See how long you last. Your own doctors, dentists, pilots, etc. Good luck. Ha ha ha ha

  • I feel so sorry for you, MrTerribletimes, if you think Deaf people can't survive on our own without Hearing people. If you're Deaf yourself, it must be so terrible to be so self-hating.

  • It's that we're not grateful to hearing people, it's the hearing people who are ungrateful to deaf people by denying them opportunities!

  • There are Deaf doctors, dentists, pilots and so on.

You're full of shit, MrTerribletimes. I already have many friends who are deaf and they told me that they applied for these positions ... MANY times.

Not only that, it is very common for people like you to claim that Deaf people are not "qualified" nor did "not apply".

  • Will follow your footsteps! Know of any Deaf owned online relay companies? I use Sprint and will definitely switch to a Deaf owned one.

  • Online? Can't say I do. If you find any, pass it on.

  • I saw on FB that Convo will do text relay for pagers, etc, so online I imagine would be same.

  • We have a similar thing in the UK NFUWU which is nothing for us without us, I concentrate on those opposing this, namely deaf charities. Charities in the UK are 'corporate' and dumped grass root memberships so hearing run the show telling people what deaf want and need, there are no consultations any more, but the biggie, is charity in the UK pay no taxes, grass roots cannot 'compete' to provide for their own because they have to pay these taxes. It all adds up to keeping deaf in their place.

  • Yup- That's why I don't use those hearing-owned companies, and have been using ConvoRelay and I used to be super happy with the quality of its interpreters. Unfortunately, due to higher demands, ConvoRelay contracted with more interpreting agencies. I know that it already contracted with one agency that has poor quality of interpreters. Lately, I have been getting low-quality interpreters via ConvoRelay :-(

  • Damn. I liked Convo the few times I used them. I hope they decide not to stay with those agencies. But Deaf-owned with some lousy terps is sitll better than Hearing-owned with some lousy terps.

  • true & agreed. I already sent an email expressing my view about this one agency. i hope they will take my input into consideration for when the renewal of contract is up.

  • FalzTV Thanks for your feedback. Definitely value your input and feedback. Keep them coming.

  • You're partially right. Our demand has grown slowly over time but we're setting up San Francisco Bay Area call center in San Ramon during month of Feb. This will be a 100% Convo owned call center. This allows us to manage the quality of the service. We also have fantastic partners who are willing to work with us, especially Sign On in Seattle.

Robin - Co-founder of Convo Relay.

  • Robin! Thanks for your comments. I'm thrilled to hear of your expansion of call center, and I look forward to this :-)

  • Beautiful. Glad you have same way I think.

  • Don, good point. Guess as long as the companies are under the for, by, and of the Deaf, Deaf monopolists are necessary evils to be embraced and valued. Further, when the benefits of these two become available in Canada, I will patronize the companies. Dave

  • Hey Don. It is good to see you again. What you propose definitely makes sense. By the way, where can we buy stock shares? Speaking of stock shares (if any available), make sure that these are NOT attractive to hearing speculators. Dave Mason, Edmonton, Alberta

  • Hey Dave!

Good question! As far as I know, the two companies I mentioned are not up for public ownership. But for that matter, are Purple or Sorenson, yet?

How does one make a stock unattractive to a Hearing speculator? I would think if a business is doing well, someone who wants to make money will want to buy the stock, regardless of whether it's "Deaf" or not...?

  • :) I quit any VRS or VP that related to hearing company by not using it for a long time.. So therefore, I m doing the right thing to do. :) Thats the only way we can do altogether. I dont care anymore since I m fed up and would like to stop the conflict issues and those - impact against our D Community. Start to hire more Deaf people to get a real job. Also dont appreciate one actress went ahead without us bec she support Purple. Good to know there are two deaf owned that I didnt know.

  • Excellent idea! Excellent resolution! Excellent principles! I'll join you!

  • Yes, that's why I am using Convorelay lately

  • Speak of ConvoRelay, did you get my emails?

    R-

  • To me?

  • It is sad for Deaf who are struggling to have equal access ASL. For example, Purple VRS, they hire hearing people who do not have any ASL knowledge. I disagree with their policies and hiring non-ASL Hearing people.

  • I agree with you. I see the Hispanics commonly own their own business including restaurants, bars and grocery stores. Spanish language is accessible for Hispanic in the real America. They dont need to speak English. They hired white people if they can speak Spanish. If they could not speak Spanish, they wouldnt get the job. continue

  • Dr. Don I must agree with you about the "fubu" within the Deaf community. I will gladly join you for 2010 Resolution...will need to find out which relay in wisconsin is Deaf owned.

  • Comment removed

  • Hello Dr. Don,

That's something I will do that and thank you for sharing this information. It's time to re-focus and FUBU!
