However, other than the 2 Wimbledon Finals and the U.S. Open Final which pretty much caused Borg to walk away, Connors-Borg was a rivalry that was better, and endured for several years.
yes, Bjorn made sporadic comeback in 1983, 1984 and an ill fated attempt in 1991 but tennis had changed a lot in those years. I think Borg still plays in the senior champion tour to this day which is good. ALL POWER TO BJORN BORG!!!
Had no idea Borg made a comeback in 82? Did he play after that? But what a shot! He left Jimmy flat footed and that never happens!
I was a great Borg follower and when he retired I switched my allegiances to Connors mainly to see loud mouth Mac 'buried' on Wimbledon Centre Court! And Jimmy did just that, -that very year! Great fighter Jimmy. McEnroe has become the best commentator though.
Oh a clip when mens tennis was really exciting and enjoying to watch. Although I´m from Sweden Jimmy Connors was my big idol back then. He played with aggression and with an attitude that I liked so much. I even bought the same racket as he used and I still got it and cherish it so much.
Thanks for your reply. I lov Borg and Mats Wilander.
My friend, You should try the tennis channel website and log onto video. Next download to play either the 1977 or 1979 Borg/Connors Pepsi grand slam (Boca West) finals.
@georgielund07 Altough I am italian and despite Borg and Wilander I think Edberg was the Best swedish player.
I think that Edberg at his Best is better then Borg on grass court in Wimbledon and he was very unlucky in 1989, He didn't win the Roland Garros final vs Chang because he was very tired in final of fifth set.He have played five hard set vs Becker in the SF.
you're right. i was always curious why sweden didn't bail him out financially when he was contemplating selling his trophies. this guy did so much for sweden. just give him a few million already. they should name parks and build sculptures of him (and a postage stamp)
coming up on Nov 27, the Tennis Channel available only in the USA. there's the pepsi grand slam finals from '77 and '79 both BORG-CONNORS. ! I'm hoping that someone in the US will tape those and include some excerpts. Back then the USTA had an usual green-gray as their main court surface.
That's incredible speed for 1982... tending to disprove that the game was "slow-paced" back then... what a contrast with my Wilander-Vilas video, dating from the same year (French Open), though on clay...
Wonderful Connors, wonderful Borg! Great players.

Much is spoken of the Borg-McEnroe rivalry.
However, other than the 2 Wimbledon Finals and the U.S. Open Final which pretty much caused Borg to walk away, Connors-Borg was a rivalry that was better, and endured for several years.

I never see that kind of sense of humor nowdays in pro tennis. The only guy really is Novak Djokovic, and he isnt even funny,.

Bjorn Borg is a tennis icon. Methinks it's time that his native Sweden honoured him with a postage stamp!
BJORN BORG LEGEND!

For the record, this occured in July of 1982 (in Industry, California), so shortly after Jimmy won Wimbledon. Bjorn didn't play.

I was wondering about that.
Thank you.
