I watched a rendition of this song sung first in German, showing scenes from WW 1, then in English, showing scenes from WW 2.. I think it was her final performance of this song.
@robertbuk100 The German version is the "original". It made the war stop for 3 minutes every night, when every young soldier was thinking of his love back home, no matter if in Germany, France, the UK, Russia or wherever. In these few minutes there were no soldiers, just young guys thinking of getting home safeand see their love again.
think lala anderson was original, a great song adopted by both sides but better in german and marlene had sophisticated class
