@JRLightning did u look under ur dash? if not look under u should see a black plastic gear with a red cable going to it, adjust that gear and ur selector will be fine
sorry that you have the 5.4 in yours, the first two years of the expeditions, the 4.6 was the better engine, in 99 the 5.4 became the better having the upgrades done. the 97 and 98 5.4's had cheap heads and the ignition package was a pile of shit, im glad that for what ever reason the 4.6 ones got a different package. Im sure from the start it seemed like the 5.4 was going to be the beast but it failed.
@fordwindsor351 I'm not, I had a 98 f-150 with the 4.6, and it was very weak, no matter what I did to it, it didn't have that same results that i'm getting with the 5.4, i agree that the 5.4 isn't a beast for that year but it is a good motor none the less. like i've said to other people all thats needed is some bolt ons to wake it up.

@JRLightning simple stuff 1st, cool air forced induction (activate at higher speed, otherwise its just like a common cool air type) , performance ignition chip/box, upgraded the intake and throttle body. better injectors along with a new fuel rail. Bigger things, new ford racing 3 valve heads, tri domed pistons to match up to the 3 valves. Dual exhaust with glass packs. I also took off the mechanical fan and installed an electric fan.

I have the stock motor from the factory, never had any issues with it, The only mods I've put on mine are an K&N CAI with the heat shield for the filter, pacesetter shorty headers, custom flowmaster 40 series after-cat dualed out exhaust( Just had it installed last friday) A Throttle body spacer my trainer gave me(not sure what brand it is.) and a superchips computer tuner.
@JRLightning oh i forgot mentioning the ignition that the coils were changeed as well and also went into the computer to do some changing of the settings as in the timing, fuel pressure and a couple other settings that into todays cars, you cant do as you could in the 80s and beyond.

Yeah, i didn't want to get rid of it, because those trucks are so hard to come by. I think you'll enjoy the upgrades, i was surprised on how much of a difference there was, the biggest difference was with the superchips computer, I took the expy out and man it hauled some major ass.
I'm still trying to find a place in NJ that does mod work on 4.6 V8s for the Explorer/Mountaineer. Even though it's the same engine from the mustang,the setup is different.

@JRLightning let them pass, hell you are in a vehicle that weighs around 5200 to 5900 depending on this and that, the expedition wasnt never ment to be what you want it to be if it gets you mad for being passed. You bought the wrong vehicle if you are worried of being passed, sell it and get a car thats around 1800 lbs less or more
@fordwindsor351 Mine does not weigh in that much, its around 4800, i only get mad if they are tailgating me and then they pass, I have the power needed to pass people no problem, i've had some work done to my motor. I choose whether or not i want them to pass me.

I actually did the test early in the morning. Do you live in the auburn area?
if you want the same sound, I recommend the same setup that i'm using. About a month ago I changed the system to a thrush, its basically a super cheap flowmaster at $30 its a good deal, it sounds pretty much the same, it has about the same interior sound also so I should have just stuck with the cherrybomb. anyways thanks for the comment!

There might be a bad connection somewhere in the wires, or they might not be connected to your guages at all, or they might have gone bad, if it were me I would take it in to my local FORD dealer, and ask them what they think it could be. You might have to get it replaced with a new set.
Thanks!!! I went through 4-5 different types of flowmaster mufflers until I found this awesome cherrybomb extreme muffler, I happen to think its louder than a flowmaster, but every vehicle is different. I highly recommend the cherrybomb only because there are less restrictions inside.
I dont care so much about volume, but tone. I woud like it to be a little louder than stock, but have a much more exotic tone than the stock muffler gives.
If your looking for tone, I would recommend 50 series flowmaster, its not too loud but it can still be heard, depending on what cherrybomb muffler you get you might not like them because there all fairly loud mufflers, they do have chambered mufflers that will give you the sound your looking for, and the price too, cherrybomb is cheaper than flowmaster, but you can't tell their cheaper. then again do some more research. its all about preference.
Yep, it's the 5.4 ltr V-8. It's a good motor. Lots of power.

Man,that Lightning is a collector.I was looking for one of those before.But these days F150 owners are basically making their own.
I own a 4.6 V8 Mountaineer and I'm going to do some ugrades like that too.

The gear shift indicator somehow got knocked off by one, It was in drive though .

There might be a bad connection somewhere in the wires, or they might not be connected to your guages at all, or they might have gone bad, if it were me I would take it in to my local FORD dealer, and ask them what they think it could be. You might have to get it replaced with a new set.
