@h7p10 Oh come on. League is basically a pile of Union centre's. Trust me I play league and Union (league in summer, union in winter) Mind you I'm better at league than I am at union.
@flashash2k9 Remember in UNION the scrum takes a shit load of time, and the line outs if not thrown straight will come back to a scrum to waste more time, A penalty within your opponents half ? ... oh I might kick for goal ... penalty within your half ? ... oh I might kick for touch then watch my team mates do a wedgey on my lock at the line-out, and if not thrown straight, ill either kick for goal, waste 5 more mins on a scrum, create 17 phases gain a penalty and kick for a goal, boring
@h7p10 Oh actually it might be fun for the FLY-HALF with all that kicking and standing around watching the scrum up close, I suppose it would be better to play... other than that I guess there is nothing .. more to be excited about ? .....
@WasabeyBoy He goes to play in america thinking it would be a luxury life style, but then realises they take it as a joke he evens says that.. he doesnt ever play american football, he kicks an a rugby ball, its just that its brown. Also they Yanks train at the football ground
Scott Hastings was kind enough to get in touch after watching Play On and give us this message to pass on to you all:
"Play On is rugby's 'Local Hero' film. The touching humour and storyline is entirely engaging and there are some scenes that will be very familiar to the audience. From Myreside, to Murrayfield, the heartbeat of the film unfolds from Kansas City to The Greenyards in The Scottish Borders. This film will be talked about for years to come!"
Play On was completely funded, written, produced and distributed by legendary rugby players Al Dekin, David Story and Shawn Lipman. The reason we have decided to release it online is to enable us to take it straight to you, the rugby community, using a grassroots approach which allows you to share in the experience and success of the movie. The story is powerful and inspiring and ultimately stays completely true to the game (not always the case in Hollywood).
Forever strong was the cheesiest, Americanized rugby I have seen to date. This looks 20x better than forever strong and this still looks like it's going to be below par. And the Americans damn well can play rugby, even if they can't portray it correctly in movies
@themasonification well, Forever Strong was much better produced than this movie. I've seen both, and forever strong i feel was much much better. Yes it was definatly cheesy, but arent movies supposed to be? especialy durring emotional scenes. and also, i dont understand this "Americanized" rugby. its the same game.
@Ftballnumba69 "Americanized" being all of the clothesline backflip tackles to guys that don't have the ball just to make it a "badass" action scene. just a load of cinematic crud
I don't know how I feel about this movie. I love the idea of rugby movies but I don't think Hollywood knows how to film it. I think they really need to get away from the "Rugby is like American football" idea and just make a film about rugby. Granted with getting away from that idea I also think they need to stop with these stupid sins of the father motifs. As a rugby player I like the idea of trying to bring rugby to the average American, we really need to start acknowledging this great sport.
why not use a scottish actor? i'm just glad this film wasn't about a welsh player. you have some indian sounding american the whole way through (when most none welsh people try to do a welsh accent it usually sounds like an indian accent).
this looks stupid. this is supposed to be promoting rugby? the protagonist is doing just the opposite, thinking he runs the show when he goes over to america. just makes him and the country/sport hes representing completely arrogant.
@mastermiddleton. The Scottish can't play rugby!!! We just beat the boks last weekend and funnily enough the rest of the home nations have lost u idiot get ur facts straight
Rugby and American Foot ball are hard sports in both sports you have to go through painful exercises, and the hits in both sports are very brutal. American foot ball is kind of harder because you have to play with pads and a helmet so you got extra weight on you.
As someone who's played organized football and rugby in America, I'm going to definitely disagree with the notion that rugby is a tougher sport. Getting a hard plastic helmet or shoulder pad launched into the ribs (Which are typically unpadded) hurts a lot more than getting wrap-tackled by a human body, which is significantly softer. They're both physically demanding (And awesome) sports, don't sell American football short just because it involves pads.
@GRatTV but... they do the hakka after the game, and not before? its like they're treating haka as a celebration, instead of a form of lifting their spirits up.
Rugby is just like America football, only it's ten times rougher, dont use pads n helmets n played by real gentlemen who don't play dirty n are humble.
@URALLKUNTS Can't agree with you there because England are the current champions and yes I am South African and british but i support the boks more but rhe brits are good.
@WasabeyBoy AMerican football and rugby are two different games. I played college ball and league rugby. they are both brutal. the difference is in pads, blocking, and a wide open field. granted rugby is the grandfather to football, they are both physical and hard in their own seperate affects of movement. You cannot compare them aganst each other. its like apples vs. oranges
I think with all the rugby movies want to promote rugby amoungst Americans... Have seen their world cup games even tough underdogs, they have potential if they develop the sport right.
@WasabeyBoy I'm an american, we play rugby, we just lack a professional or international league (We only have a college league). Which is lame. We need one.
And American Football isn't necessarily easier, imagine playing rugby with an extra 20 pounds on you, and having extremely limited motion. The fact that less injuries occur and that they wear pads doesn't make it all that easy. (though I know what you mean.)
I suggest you rethink.,.. The US eagles are in the top 20 teams.. It is a solid tier 2 nation. Ok not yet in the Tri-nations league but reasonable.. If I recall the history the Rugby Union is one of the oldest ball games in USA with games reported to be played in 1820s
I'll probably watch the film, huge rugby fan here, but frankly the accents on the main characters are TERRIBLE! Why not use a Scottish actor to play the part of a Scot? (I am Scottish btw). I think the accents along may ruin the film for me if I do watch it...
Tackle low and wrap...stiff arm your defender or run his bloody ass over...and most importantly cover your face when you go down in a ruck because raking is enjoyable until it is on your face. haha
@MILADProductions you CAN grab someone's shirt actully :) but it's just not a good way to put someone down, cause he can ofload the ball. but it's allowed...
im in love with Rugby since little...maybe at the 7 when i started to watch my uncle and other players play. It's like wrestling and football put together without pads :) It's a dirty game!
