  • good old Sylva NC haha

  • Beautiful scenery, fun drive! Especially in late autumn. Stunning!

  • whats the name of the song used in this video, i like it

  • I wonder why no mention of Knoxville is made when US 441 goes up past Cherokee and Gatlinburg?

  • @benschlechter

Well, I just posted the closer two of the three cities (Cherokee/Galtinburg), which is a good ways away.

  • @Bryant5493 I meant, why didn't they mention Knoxville on the signs posted on the highway?

  • @benschlechter

    Oh, okay. My bad.

  • Are those mountains connected to the Appalachian mountains?

4:25 FINALLY a sensible speed limit! Why have 55 MPH limits when 60 MPH is easier to remember and easier to read on your speedometer!

  • @04smallmj

Yeah, they're a subrange of the Appalachians.

I agree. 60 or 65 is far more respectable than 55.

  • @04smallmj Oh please... Nobody even gives a shit about the speed limit. The majority always go above it anyway... You are insulting those that actually do follow it.

  • @DetectiveMiau No, I'm insulting the DOTs who are obsessed with their 5s. No other country that I can think of has speed limits going up in 5 MPH increments. It's confusing and harder to read on a speedometer.

  • @04smallmj 55 harder to read than 60 or 65? Okay...

Besides if it says 55, it must be for a reason. Like I said people go as fast as they fucking feel like. Sorry but it pisses me off when the same people that go faster, then complain about the injustice and how accidents and tragedies could have been avoided by going slower when they themselves don't give a shit.

  • @DetectiveMiau I don't speed and I live in the UK, not the US. Here we have 3 main speed limits. 30 in urban areas, 60 on country roads and 70 on motorways. That's easy to remember. However, you have speed limits that vary very often. e.g. 25, then 35 then 55 then 35 and then 40. It's less confusing if the limits are more consistent with the road types. It also varies state by state to make it more confusing. Why can't you just have a national speed limit for each type of road?

  • this is a good one. i had a trip through this area getting to mars hill. it's great country, i want to buy land out there.

  • @gestalt100

Thanks. It's beautiful scenery up in those mountains, indeed.

  • Well; semi-green anyway , The snow was a nice touch...Great vid!!

  • @CAMINOANDALUZ

    Yeah, thanks. :-)

  • ...that looke like a really beautiful drive...

  • @GeoffJennyOliver

Yes, Geoff, it was a very nice drive.

  • Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!

  • @FreewayTitan

    Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! :-D

  • That's a neat ride in any weather but I really like the touches of snow, interesting soundtrack too, good job.

  • @Freewayjim

Yeah, the day that my mom and I went, we didn't know it was going to be snow on the ground (lol). Thanks.

  • I like how NCDOT strictly limited at-grade traffic crossings with the use of limited (and IMHO very-well designed) U-turn points and interchanges for major crossings. If Georgia would've designed GA 400 and GA 316's non-freeway portions to NC-style "expressways", it would've been a heckuva lot better than what they have now. Kudos to NCDOT for their excellent design of a wonderful partially access-controlled highway.

  • @georgiaroadgeek

Yeah, I agree. Georgia 316 east of the freeway end; 400 north of 369, and U.S. 23 north of I-985 would benefit from this style: having folks make u-turns rather than folks trying to scoot across four lanes of wide/fast-moving traffic.

  • The Tuckaseegee river follows US 74 from Dillsboro to Whittier, which then flows up toward US 19 and follows that route to Bryson City, where it enters the Little Tennessee River and Fontana Lake.

  • I forgot to mention that my family has summer property over there between Dillsboro and Franklin,NC. Whenever I come over to see them, sometimes I come through Gatlinburg and Cherokee, but the rest of the time, it's I-40 from Newport to Waynesville back over US 19/23/74/

  • What tune is that anyway? Btw, US 74 aka Great Smoky Mountains Expressway from Waynesville to Bryson City was also known as US 19A or US 19 Bypass at onetime, after US 19 was rerouted through Maggie Valley and Cherokee.

  • @benschlechter

Forgot what the song's called. It's a YouTube AudioSwap.

    Okay, didn't know that. Thanks.

  • Do you guys mean Stinking Creek Rd, Exit #144 off I-75? It's in Northern TN, close to the KY border.

  • Okay, cool.

  • @cms0678 Yeah, thats the one. I didnt know exactly where it was. So am I right bout the smell or not.

  • Naw.. I didn't smell anything. I did stop to use the restroom there though :)

  • LOL. Oh, well. my nose must be super sensative, then.

  • U didn't. Cuz u would have smelled it, if u did. It stinks that bad. And my daugther tells me its in Knoxville. So there u go.

  • Okay. What's on that road? A garbage dump or something?

  • A open piss tank! LOL!

  • Beautiful scenery. While there did u pass by old stink creek rd? I dont know if its in North Carolina or Tenneese?

  • I'm not sure if I did or didn't. The street names signs on the expressway were kind of small, except for the exit signage.
