  • dam i miss the farm

  • It has some character but it's still less tempermental than a pack of horses.

  • I just like the older A johnny's ive got a 47?

but i like the older one's better.

  • Thats just awesome all around. You are blessed.

  • We used to call them old 2 cylinder Deeres "Poppin' John". Brings back

nice memories. Just watch out, though, because the gov't is working to

outlaw all family farms by eminent domain, STEALING land that has

been in families for decades so the only ones allowed to grow crops

will be the big corporate ag-business. Check out infowars dot com to

hear the latest about the CRIMINAL takeover of family farms in America.

  • i'll bet that thing is pretty fuel efficent. Doesn't sound like the motor is reving very high.

  • is that a kerosene tractor?

  • love that sound lol

  • I notice the ground is very wet, do u worry about soil compaction going over wet ground?

  • Nice job keeping it straight, sounds like shes not even working hard.

  • My grandfather started farming during the great depression and had to use horses, when he finally was able to afford a JD, he got rid of "the damn hay burners". Cool to see a tractor of the same vintage as his first!

  • Great video. Thank you for posting it!

  • This is pure poetry! Awesome! I can almost smell the soil and the oil!

  • Cool, when you turned around, it looks like the previous passes had frost on them. Must be nice to have that kind of family connection to the land.

  • Thanks for your post. I can remember My Great Grandad when is was a kid in the 50's. Delbert P. Case, 1873-1958 always used a team of horses. When Dad bought a tractor in 1948, Great Grampa would never use it. We still have the old 2N Ford.

  • yes, but it's terrorific to loose the land, is the worst thing

  • Thank You.

  • I can not believe that this video has been watched over 60,000 times!!!!!!!!! I'm glad so many folks have enjoyed it and that there are so many people out there with with an interest in old farm machinery!

  • I haven't ever driven a John Deere; the one at the farm I work at has weaker back brakes than front so it has a tendency to flip.

  • @JuliatheCoolest

    Tractors don't have front brakes

  • @JuliatheCoolest ....and they let you drive a tractor? yikes. aren't they affraid you'll run the tractor out of blinker fluid?

  • the thing isn't even working haha. i know our '47 is one beast of a tractor, thats all my grandfather had for a tractor until he bought his 1960's oliver 1465. My uncle still has the a- we'd still be using it for field work except all the stuff we use now uses hydraulics

  • It better be

  • I forgot to mention our John Deere A also ran our threshing machine before we started combining.

  • We had a 1937 John Deere A when I was a boy. We generally pulled 2 - 16s in second gear. It was our only tractor for a few years until we bought a 1947 Farmall H. We also used the John Deere to pull loose hay up into the barn, to pull a combine and to power a silo filler in the fall, among other stuff.

  • Everyone is concentrating on the John Deere, no one has mentioned the straight furrow! and the uniform depth! That's good work!

  • Thank You !!! I enjoy plowing with my old friend.

  • What gear you running in? 1st gear in High range? or.. 4th?

  • 2nd gear or hi on the low side. Camera makes it look like I'm going allot fast than I am. The old A is semi-retired now that I have a 60

  • Man that's great! Used to do that on my dads old 530 JD. Drop that wheel right down in that furrow and chug along. Didn't seem like much fun on those hot days years ago, but I sure do miss it now!

  • good ol' johnny poppers- they just keep going and going

  • I love the sound of that thing!

  • is that 3rd or second you are plowing in? on are Awe plow in 3rd

  • 2nd. gear. camera makes it look like I'm flying. third is too fast to plow with the old 4 speed A. 3rd. is nice for raking hay. Thanks

  • it looks muddy!!

  • dhyyhgaeyrrh6eut76e

  • my tractor is a "baby deere", lol. i have a 1971 112 and i love it. kohler k301

  • Oh, I love that sound. My first tractor was an Allis-Chalmers WD-45, still have it today, but I'm also a JD fan as well. Great video, but 29 degrees! Damn!

  • My dad is giving me his John Deere 1936 A. and im only 11 I've enjoyed it ever since I was five. Were restoring it right now

  • Good For YOU!!! Let me know if I can be of help. I've been around them all of my 57 years. Bought my first tractor at 16. A '36 B. I enjoy using them. Send some pictures! Best Regards Lewie

  • I LOVE those "pre-styled" As, especially the steel saddles that don't soak up rain and NEVER stick a spring into your butt.

  • Man do I remember that sound! My dad had one when I was a kid. The main thing he used it for was to sew wheat. I can't remember how big the drill was but it did the job. He also had a cycle bar mower to mow the grader ditches. I remember driving it too fast and the front end shook. Thanks for posting this, it sure brought back some good memories! 5*****

  • Nice to see someone use an old John Deere tractor for work. That ran nice.

  • Thank You!

  • it's to wet to be plowing ( damn it boy )

  • You mean it's too wet to plow with anything but a John Deere, That's what you meant to say!! Dad would have agreed with you , but you can never tell what the weather will do next week.

  • Nice to see someone else doing some real work with a John Deere 2 cylinder. My dad and I have a '46 A and the 14th 720 ever built. The A we're getting restored and the 720 has just been out spraying this weekend. 2 springs ago the 720 was pulling a one-way getting ready for planting.

  • Most beautiful music in the world is the sound of that 2 cylinder John Deere. Makes goose bumps run up and down my spine when it really starts digging!!!!

  • I'm glad so many people have enjoyed my video. I'll be getting the John Deere corn binder out soon & will post a video of it in operation behind the A. Thanks Foe Watching!

  • nice tractor, i got to pull 3 16 inch bottoms, right after they were harvesting, at the BSOT. anways, 3 bottoms with a 1937 JD D, first gear, and had the front wheels lifting when i hit hard spots. i went through 5 gallons of gas real quick.

  • Yes, I'm pulling two 14" bottoms in 2nd gear. The tractor was built to pull two 14s and set up properly will handle the load nicely [and last for years] Thanks for watching.

  • Are those 2-14 inch bottom plows?

  • Yes, two 14" bottoms plowing in 2nd gear. video makes it look like I'm going faster than that. 3 i/2 miles an hour give or take a little. Glad you enjoyed watching

  • What gear are you in pulling that? It looks like 3rd or 4th. Walking the line, I know that. LOL

  • second gear, camera makes it look faster than it is. Also makes the field look larger. I can pull it in third gear, but it's too hard on the tractor, and me

  • Next time you plow with it, run a lap or 2 in 3rd gear and really make it talk. :) It does look like you're going faster than 2nd. LOL

  • love to hear the old Johnny Poppers

  • nice lookin tractor.sounds like it runs very smooth

  • Nice old tractor!

  • We do that too but mines a 51 b and we pull 3 14's on it

  • Late model Bs are nice tractors. My A seems happy with 2 14s.

  • Yes it does our 51 is beefed up a little Your a sounds so nice did you restore that your self if you did great job

  • It's never been restored other than to put it in good working condition.Regular maintenance & 2 paint jobs since 78

  • I do everything except machine work myself. My brother does machine work & cast welding

  • Awesome Well thats a lovely tractor thats i can say

  • i have a 1941 model B and a 1956 720 diesel

  • Put two 14s behind that B and get some video on here!

  • Looks like it's a little sticky out there. LOL. It sounds like the old A is running good.

  • Great sounding old tractor!

  • Thank You! I've owned it since '78. Stuck when I brought it home. New rings and ground the valves with compound on a hand grinder. Gov. overhaul about 18 years ago. Other than that only regular maintenance. I enjoy working ground with it and belt work.
