@TheScarecrowStare Do you know that Christianity is correct? The world around us reveals that G-d DOES exist, and the historical evidence reveals that Jesus Christ really did come to this earth and there is overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ really did physically rise from the dead. Jesus is coming again and the signs of the end times that were foretold in the Bible are coming to pass.
@marionetemanJ Who the fuck are you talking to? I never said anything about any of that? I'd appreciate it if you'd refrain from telling me bullshit like this, thanks.
great job, you should try spraying the panels and then after the lining giving a matte finish. It's much extra work but really worth it, but I can definitely tell that you didn't spray any of the panels.
@kimori676 oh crap.. Three of my gundam models were painted with that method using acetone as eraser... Thank you for telling me..i was currently planning to paint my cherudim with it... Thanks a lot..^_^;
wow very fine tip.. like a syringe^^.. is it okay to panel line using permanent marker?? well its not easy to wipe so im using acetone to remove the excess.. wouldnt it ruin the plastic??
@yurine1126karas to remove permanent marker use finger nail polish remover. But I recommend using permanent marker on a scrap piece of model kit plastic. Then use the finger nail polish remover on it to remove it off the plastic but to see if the FNPR effects the plastic. If the plastic is undamage and not faded your good to go. Acetone practically eats plastic so that is a big no no.
I painted a Boeing 747 model to have a Singapore airlines color scheme and I painted the letters, lines, and logo on and it doesn't look good. I should have used gundam marker for those things, but I didn't know about them at the time.
I'm new to not only gundam models, but models in general. My girl friend got me a hg wing zero custom for our anniversary (1/100 scale) and I want to do it right, if that means painting it then so be it, washing it then ill do it. What suggestions do you have for me? Any help is appreciated?
Prime, 1,are gundam markers completely necessary to make a model look nice (Same with sharpie and painting). 2.Do you need to be good and presice at painting and art to panel line and paint the kits and 3. Does the 1/144 exia require much painting?
The markers are not necessary (the models look nice straight out of the package), but the markers emboss the panels and make the model more dynamic. It really makes a difference once you get a closer look at it because with the lines, it makes each individual piece stand out. Painting though is a different story. For accuracy, use masking tape as siding protection and apply a thin coat of paint. Game workshop paint is pretty ideal since they are often used for the miniatures.
As for the Exia, if you want to go for show accuracy, you should forgo the stickers and paint the shield, skirts and the limbs. Clear green is also good for the clear pieces and the GN drive. Adding gray to the details is important (the GN sword and blades and the clamps for the GN drive). However, paint on it is mostly superficial.
@Machdude lol I built it already before I read that but thanks anyway. I used green sharpie for the clear pieces (condensers i think they're called) and the drive and panel lined wit some pigment liner. I'll get gundam marker at some point in the future
@ultacat92 Nope. you need a 0.05 to capture the lines for the model neatly. Some people use other methods of inking, like mixing black acrylic with paint thinner
@divine0g0d yes it does. the ones that you have to avoid are the markers that are permament on CDs. Those are unerasable and embed inside the plastic.
wow nice so thats how you panel line makes me wish i still had my endless walts gundams i would have done them in panel lineing good vid thanks for posting it
is it good to panel line before building the kit? like on the face mask??cuz Im planning to get a new kit and try to find gundam markers on greattoys hope they have one ^_^
q-tips are really good for wiping off excess marker, and if you cant find gundam markers, black artist pens work just as well and you can get those at an art supply store

I would like to know some alternatives as I can't get Gundam Markers with ordering, and shipping is usually EXPENSIVE. I've been using Testors Fade Black Enamel Paint Plus Thinner. Anyone willing to tell me an alternative without buying online?
the problem with these gundam markers is that theres chances that the pen would run out for some reason. but i do have a gundam marker which has alsted me for 4 months. fine tip sharpies work fine too. but make sure you have something alcoholic based like a hand sanitizer or a zippolighter refil and clean the excess
also, if you dont have a fine tip gundam marker for panel lining, u can just use the black gundam paint marker over panel line, make sure the paint seeps into the panel line, and then let it dry for 30 seconds to a minute or so and then erase it. if you dont wait it still works but the paint smudges and you have to erase a bit more and that just watses the eraser. i'd recommend you try not to do this on smaller parts though because of the whole erasing process and the thick tip of marker
@Wolfenhiem Well the gundam weather kit is a set of markers that have the sort of dirt, mud, and rust colors and metallic look to them. I havent heard of the tamiya weathering kit though...
If you let the gundam marker dry for more than a day it will be harder to erase with an eraser. This is a little off topic but where do you get your TT Hongli gundam kits?
i used Drawing Pen to panel lining my HG...it fine as long as i just display it.... :) i know it's not a good idea, but i can't find Gundam Marker at my local stores... :(
before i used CD markers whit a fine tip. and that was great becouse you could just take you nail and scrape of the acses. but when the the marker died i went to the store and tried to find a new one but now i cant find any :(
I just panel line them while they are still in the molds or gates (w/e). I feel like I have more control over the lines and make small mistakes with it,
Very cool that you did this tutorial. And I like how you make a suggestion to model kit builders who may not have access to credit card to order an actual Gundam marker online.
Prime92, If the panel lines are too thick and your finger cannot reach them, I recommend applying a Q-Tip with some rubbing alcohol on it. The alcohol can thin out some of these panel lines.
You should really try the technique you mentioned at the end of the video. My recommendation is that you use a scriber to carve a thin line alone where you want to panel line. Then dip your gundam marker into the groove and then watch the magic show. Oh, wipe out the excess of course.
And btw Prime, I've been watching your model kits, and I think that you overly panel lined your model. The lines on your model is too thick which make them look really toyish. Panel lines should be subtle and shouldn't receive too much attention. Their purpose is to make your model look realistic instead of pop out and yell for themselves.
You should use the grey gundam marker instead of the black on the white plastic. If you use the black gundam marker, the contrast is too obvious to make the model look good.
Hmm... I found that panel-lining with marker of any brand don't seems to work on painted kits, because the excess marker ink seems to eat into the paint surfaces, be it matt or high gloss paint. Do you encounter similar problem?
I also tried applied the black wash from GW to the whole model piece, but that also leave dark patches, even though the shopkeeper said I don't need to thin down the wash paint. Guess I will go back to capillary method. Any suggestion for breaking the surface tension?
alot of times even the fine point g-marker is too thick especially when if/when your painting your models i strongly suggest using a 0.3mm mechanical pencil its hard to find in stores i got mine from amazon
Have you tried using the Gundam Real Touch Markers? They're not that great for weathering like Bandai markets them for, but they're awesome for panel lines. Plus there's more colors than just black, gray, and brown
I would definitely reccomend Gundam Marker over Permanent Markers. They may give the same effect, but there's no way to take it off. And, after using permanent marker on white Lego Bricks, the chemicals in permanent markers yellow the white plastic and weaken it, making it easier to break. I assume the case is the same with Gundam models, considering they are both made from ABS plastic.
Thanks for the video though, very informative having a tutorial.
Gundam markers are all well and good, but the best effect is using them in conjuction with a radiograph/drafting pen. Of course, nothing substitutes a panel wash.
Althought panel lining is good way to consenrate to the details to me its something that I never bother to do becouse I'm satisfied to my models even without it. Those that want to do it and feel that they models need it are free to panel line as much as they want.
you should use gray gundam marker for panel lining white parts, looks more subtle. Also, toothpicks are very useful for thinning out panel lines, so are Q-tips.
@aries0083 yea she uses a brush, she used to use gundam markers too. but i find the tip of the markers too thick to reach small areas but seeing your FGs i wanna know how you do it
Can we use Pilot G-tech 0.4 or 0.3? Because it was as fine as gundam marker but i dont want to try it becuase i might have a hard time to erase some errors.

I always found it easier to try and do the panel lining on the tree before putting it together

Have you tried using the Gundam Real Touch Markers? They're not that great for weathering like Bandai markets them for, but they're awesome for panel lines. Plus there's more colors than just black, gray, and brown

yeah, i remember my first time using a gundam marker...it was my cousins mg wing zero custom....way better than sharpie..

I should get a gundam marker, cause I use a fine - tip sharpie, and if you mess up, it doesn't come of
Skullatoran 1 year ago
You should use a q-tip to clean it up the mistake. I try to panel like the parts before putting it together. Nice alternative maker you are showing.

Althought panel lining is good way to consenrate to the details to me its something that I never bother to do becouse I'm satisfied to my models even without it. Those that want to do it and feel that they models need it are free to panel line as much as they want.

for me using marker ink for the clear pieces work best with a dark color below (like those black stickers) other wise you'd notice the ink blobs

I actually use a pencil for the time being cause i find it easier because you can sharpen the point so that it's thin enough but the effect is less

you should use gray gundam marker for panel lining white parts, looks more subtle. Also, toothpicks are very useful for thinning out panel lines, so are Q-tips.

How do you paint your models?
aries0083 1 year ago
@aries0083 she did a video titled "how to make a titanium custom"
i would, however, like to see how YOU paint your gundams mr aries0083. saw what you did with your FG 00 season 1 kits and they look incredible
acicon 1 year ago
@acicon I guess she uses a brush. Anyways I use gundam markers. But the colors that exist are limited.
aries0083 1 year ago
@aries0083 yea she uses a brush, she used to use gundam markers too. but i find the tip of the markers too thick to reach small areas but seeing your FGs i wanna know how you do it

Thx!! this helped me alot. but i have a question. how do u paint with gundam markers?
TheWongFong 1 year ago
@TheWongFong You don't really paint with them, you use them to hide sprue marks. They are horrible for painting.
mescuniquejohnson 1 year ago
@mescuniquejohnson oh. but i have these gundam markers( i got the seed destiny set) and the markers look like they would be used to paint.

I don't see a point in panel lining a model, to me it makes it look less realistic then before.
