It's probably something to do with the fact that we passed laws making the entire process of donating a lot more extensive. You now need full healthchecks, bloodtesting and family medical history, which takes several weeks, and then there's also the chance that somewhere down the track you'll have what are essentially your biological children track you down. And all for a couple of hundred bucks? It's barely worth it for money, so unless you're doing it for social reasons, it's kinda pointless.
