If you look thorougly, you can see that "Scott Stoddard" alternates between a real BRM H16 F1 car, and a disguised F3 car. The bigger radiator-opening and the shock-absorbers outside the body gives the F3 away. GREAT MOVIE anyhow...
Google for 'Grand Prix Legends' and '66 Mod' and you'll be able to drive these same cars yourself... IF you manage to stay on the road for one lap, that is ;)
They weren't really thinking about it then, it was all about speed without much mind to driver safety during those times. in other words, the drivers then had balls.
GRAN PRIX - One of the best and most true to life movies ever made about F1 Racing on and off the track. The Camera Angles and Special Camera Rigging alone was a work of art, with (Large Heavy Old School) Cameras often mounted F1 cars on outriggers 6 feet outboard and only inches off the ground traveling at F1 speeds. And the Soundtrack like the Movie was AWESOME!

greatest racing movie of all time. I love Le Mans, I love Days of Thunder, but this movie tops them all 100x over
