If you cant afford the price of new HP printer ink I suggest you go on Ebay and buy the recycled cartridges. Recently had a colour cartridge HP 78 really dry up on me and I managed to rescue it! I might even do a video on it sometime soon!
@moderndesignworks here is my comment "...canon and epson have the printing head in the printer itself not in the cartridge..." and here is his "...Canon does not have printer head in the cartridges, the printer head is in the cartridge holder for multi cartridge printers..." what's the difference between these two comments? NONE he just repeated what I already know, maybe he is stupid or blind.
second, my question is addressed to you not anyone else, so i expect you to respond to it.
@Oceandeep8 are you blind or have you some understanding problems ?
what didn't you understand from my comment:
"...canon and epson have the printing head in the printer itself not in the cartridge which make it even worst when it gets clogged or when it breaks..."
@yksnimus I recently purchased 2 ink catridges for my HP Deskjet F2280 printer, but now the Color & Black/Photo lights keep coming up & there is a big 'E' in the display window. Can anyone help me? I have tried everything from removing the catridges to turning it off & switching it back on, but still no go.

Prints came out all whacked up, so I refilled with Wal-Mart brand refill kit for both Black and Color cartridges. Now for some reason, print heads will get all clogged up. Even if I clean it the way the vids show here, the heads will still get clogged up. Dunno what I'm doing wrong. This is just a disaster.

What kind of ink is used in the cartridge. You know like gasoline, you have regular, premium, ect. You have diffrant types of oil, STP, Quakerstate, Valvoline. ECT. What type of ink is used???????????????? Seems no one unstands the question. and yes I have used Google, nada.
I need to know why when I refill my hp 21 and 22 printer cartridges the computer keep showing low level of ink on the cartridges !! If someone know how to fix that please let m know !!!! Thanks
Well, contrary to some of these comments, I have have had pretty good luck refilling my HP cartridges especially the black ones. I have also bought a few online on the big auction site for as little as $6.99. I had a little trouble with a Dell cartridge I refilled, but got one of those for the same price, same place.
i did all this -- it was easy to do but now i can only print in pink. i dont know how or y this happened can it be corrected? what is the problem with it?
@punkisexichik That happened to me once refilling my Dell. After some research, I believe I made the mistake of running the printheads under very hot water to unclog them. I read that hot water may damage the micro-components in the printhead causing the colors to mix.
The trick is to "top off" the cartridges each week rather than refilling them when they become empty. Otherwise, fill them as soon as you get a message that the ink is running low. Topping-off avoids the problems of refilling and extends the life of the cartridge.
HP is a total rip off on the cartridges. Refilling the HP cart. sometimes works, most of the time doesn't. Leaking, smear, bad printing all the time. Never buy a HP printer, you will be much better off to get a Canon or a Epson printer with separate cartridges which cost a lot less in the long run, both time and money. You can buy Canon or Epson black and color cartridges online for about $1.50 each!!!
I tried and I opened the HP cartridge. It was very simple cheap sponge, little bit of ink print head, plastic cover, thats all, Remove the cover and refill the full sponge and use tissue till the ink finally comes out
@moderndesignworks. Agreed, no joke. Right now I have problems with a new tri-color cartridge & it is giving me hell. And one of these cartridges cost $40 & more. The cartridges doesn't work long at all.
the best thing to do is get a color laser printer, the toners are not much more expansive than inkjet's. I bought my Samsung CLP-315, and I love it, I go it from OfficeMax for $125 with all the discounts!!! The toner last forever, they cost about $45 each, but last sooooo much longer. Only con I have is that it won't print any cards......it will jam, but any paper is ok.
@moderndesignworks I noticed that too! I hate that they expire! I had always Lexmarks and they never do and I had them for a long time and it never hurt the printer. HP is out to make money anyway they can!

I followed your directions, but my ink cartridge still prints like it's empty. :(
